The Eisenhower Precedent: Is Trump Justified in Deploying the National Guard to Chicago?

If Eisenhower can deploy the National Guard to protect nine students, it is reasonable for Trump to send them to protect millions.

In 1954, a unanimous U.S. Supreme Court held in Brown v. Board of Education that state laws establishing racial segregation in public schools were unconstitutional.

Three years later, the Arkansas branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) recruited nine African American students to attempt to integrate Central High School in Little Rock.

On September 4, 1957, the first day of school, a white mob gathered in front of Central High, and Governor Orval Faubus, a staunch segregationist, deployed the Arkansas National Guard to prevent the black students from entering.

Tiny B.C. town on edge because of one man who ‘terrorized the whole community’

Wood Splitting Maul

Haida Gwaii is an idyllic archipelago with lush rainforests, rugged terrain and wave-caressed beaches. It’s a paradise.

And for some, it’s been a hell.

On Thursday, Masset — a village nestled on the shore of a northern coast inlet — was abuzz with anger, fear and frustration after a man who has reportedly harassed, assaulted and threatened members of the community for years allegedly went after two people with an axe. He was subdued by Darin Swanson and his son, Jordan Holt, after they say he attacked them.

There is no good reason this nut should be on the streets.

It’s Called Two Tiered Policing: After Two Years Of Complaints Police Still Can’t Catch Muskoka Gunmen

I suspect we’ll be told that Illegal firearms usage is a cultural thing protected under the charter on grounds of religious belief

WARMINGTON: Catching wild shooters in Muskoka should be as easy as shooting fish in a barrel

The MacTier shooters have showed up every weekend this summer and left behind thousands of bullet holes and spent shell casings to highlight that.

It’s something many in the Georgian Bay and Muskoka region are wondering. It would not surprise members of a local snowmobile club who have been complaining about these reckless gunmen for two years.

Police just can’t catch these guys! They must be like super criminals!

The West’s Migrant Crime Crisis: When Silence Is Complicity

There is no shortage of stories about heroic bystanders intervening to stop assaults and attacks committed by migrants in Europe.

The most well-known incident occurred on a Paris-bound train in 2015, when three American tourists thwarted a mass terrorist attack by a Moroccan national armed with a Kalashnikov; one of them was shot in the process. Then there was the “backpack hero,” who chased a Syrian refugee out of a park in France after he stabbed four kids and two adults in 2023. Moving on to this year, in July, passengers overpowered another Syrian national on a train in southern Germany after he injured four people with a hammer.

WARMINGTON: Shooting guns recklessly in Muskoka is a bridge too far for Ontario community

Ford will huff and he’ll puff but in the end he’ll pander

Shocked Premier Doug Ford is “confident” the OPP will quickly round up these mystery suspects

At first glance, it looked like five gunmen standing in line shooting their guns off as part of a firing squad.

Or perhaps it was a special militia holding a bridge in a foreign war zone.

Trump’s war on urban disorder Blue cities should pay heed

In 2024, Donald Trump flipped tens of thousands of city dwellers from The Bronx to Philadelphia who were frustrated by lenient crime policies in blue cities and states. It’s understandable that the president wants to reward this emerging GOP constituency by showing instant progress. On Monday, the White House issued an executive order to punish jurisdictions that release criminal suspects without requiring them to post cash bail, and a separate order to prepare the National Guard for “rapid nationwide deployment,” including to cities beyond Washington, DC.

But just because urban crime is a real problem doesn’t mean that Trump can fix it by decree. Trump is exceeding his constitutional authority in attempting to circumvent the frustratingly iterative process of federalist democracy, which rarely offers political or practical shortcuts.

Police unseal old theory in Barry and Honey Sherman murder probe but say releasing more would hurt case

Toronto police have released only a few new details on the Barry and Honey Sherman murder investigation despite an Ontario judge’s strong suggestion that “shaking the tree” might help solve the nearly eight-year old case.

Following a Toronto Star application for increased transparency, police on Monday agreed to unseal minor references to Sherman cousin Kerry Winter and Sherman’s friend and business associate Frank D’Angelo. The references are contained in more than 3,400 investigative pages police have filed in court. About 40 per cent of the documents are still under seal.

Day 11, still no murders

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, I said to myself a couple of weeks ago. The media told me that Donald Trump was taking over Washington in an authoritarian manner. Finally, I thought, he would lock Hillary up.

The Red Hats Are Coming! The Red Hats Are Coming! The Red Hats Are Coming!

You can imagine my disappointment when I discovered that all the president did was have the FBI arrest a few criminals, ICE deport some illegal aliens, and the National Guard patrol the streets. Oh, and the Guard tore down the pup tents of the vagrants.

UK Police Tape

Barrie police are set to hold a news conference about a grisly murder case tied to a homeless encampment in central Barrie.

A news conference is scheduled on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Barrie Police Headquarters, where officials will outline the latest developments in the investigation that has gripped the city for weeks.

While police have kept the probe largely under wraps, Barrie Police Chief Rich Johnston and Sgt. Brett Carleton are expected to provide an update since a 52-year-old man was arrested.

Facing up to Black Crime in America

We owe it to every victim, in every community, to stop pretending reality doesn’t exist. Truth isn’t racist. Statistics aren’t bigoted.

A woman named Holly from Cincinnati was recently knocked unconscious by a sucker punch at a jazz festival. The attack was caught on video. I had the misfortune of watching it. Perhaps you did too. The video went viral

And for once, maybe the first time in decades, a white victim of black violence spoke honestly about what happened to her. She called it racially motivated. She didn’t apologize for existing. She didn’t beg people not to notice patterns. This represents a seismic shift in American discourse. For 60 years, we’ve been trapped in a suffocating ritual where white victims must immediately genuflect before the altar of racial sensitivity, even as they’re being wheeled into ambulances. They apologize for their attackers. They beg the media not to mention race. They perform elaborate acts of contrition for crimes committed against them.
