What al-Sharaa’s Army Did to the Druze in Sweida

After the IDF went into action to stop Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s army from continuing its bloodbath in Sweida, by bombing 160 sites in Sweida itself, and in Damascus, hitting the army headquarters and a place close to the presidential palace by way of a warning, the Syrian dictator pulled his troops back and declared, despite the mounting evidence to the contrary, that he was the true “protector of the Druze.” Not many Druze in Syria, and none in Israel, believe him. The latest report on how the Druze are reeling from attacks by al-Sharaa’s army can be found here: “Bodies and looted homes: Syria’s Druze reeling after Sweida bloodshed,” Reuters, July 18, 2025:

In the Heart of Berlin: Hundreds Celebrate Massacres of Druze

In front of Berlin’s Rotes Rathaus (Red City Hall), the seat of the city’s mayor, nearly 400 men—many of them reportedly Syrian refugees—publicly celebrated the recent massacres committed against the Druze community in Syria. Eyewitnesses report that chants included “Out with the Druze!” and “Today we liberate Suweida, we will break the Druze,” along with calls for rape, murder, and ethnic cleansing. Although 65 police officers were present at the scene, they did not intervene.

Syria’s new dawn is already a nightmare

Fighting has engulfed the Druze-majority city of Sweida in southern Syria, leaving over 200 people dead. This week, Druze villages have been overrun by Syrian regime forces and allied Islamist militias under the guise of ‘restoring order’, only for those forces to unleash executions, looting and arson upon Druze neighbourhoods. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 92 Druze were killed (including 21 civilians executed by government troops) in the space of a few days. In one incident, an 80-year-old Druze sheikh had his moustache, a symbol of honour, forcibly shaved by invading fighters. He was reportedly killed shortly afterwards. This is, it appears, the dark reality of ‘national unity’ under Syria’s new rulers.

‘There were bodies everywhere’: Druze residents describe ‘bloodbath’ in Syrian city Suweida

Over the last five days, Rima says she has witnessed “barbaric” scenes.

The 45-year-old Druze woman has lived in the southern Syrian city of Suweida her whole life, and never thought her once-peaceful hometown would become the scene of a bloodbath.

“There were bodies everywhere outside our building,” she told the BBC in a phone interview, using a pseudonym out of fear for her safety.
