UK Scientists Propose Rationing To Combat Climate Change

Many unique measures have been proposed in recent months in the name of protecting our planet, including shifting to a more bug-based diet or, taking notes from much of the world’s response to COVID, imposing “climate lockdowns.” Scientists from the University of Leeds, however, suggest the answer can be found even further back than 2020 and argue that political leaders should consider “World War II-style rationing.”

Germany’s effort to save the combustion engine gains allies

The Czech, German and Italian transport ministers aim to gather like-minded counterparts in Brussels on Monday to figure out a way to save the combustion engine from an EU ban in 2035, two diplomats told POLITICO.

Germany — backed by Italy, Poland and Bulgaria — has blocked the final approval of a law that would mandate only zero-emission cars and vans can be sold in the EU from 2035. Berlin wants the European Commission to first put forward an option allowing cars to use synthetic fuels known as e-fuels, but the blockade is leading to broader questions about the whole 2035 measure.

E-Bikes Are Convenient. They Can Also Catch Fire and Destroy Buildings.

Just before midnight on a Friday in January, a fire tore through a three-story house in East Elmhurst, Queens, injuring 10 people inside and killing a 63-year-old man who was trapped on the second floor. Five days later, on a rainy Wednesday afternoon, another fire broke out in the basement of a house in Forest Hills, Queens, where an unauthorized day care center was housed. Eighteen children were injured, one seriously.

The cause of both fires was rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, which power the e-bikes and e-scooters that have become ubiquitous on city streets, according to the New York Fire Department.

Lithium batteries are no joke.

The Greenness of Youth: Training Toddler Climate Activists

Speaking on the fringes of the 2023 World Economic Forum summit in Davos, which she no doubt reached via the environmentally-friendly method of boarding a large aeroplane, Princess Eugenie announced on January 24 that she intended to raise her baby son, August, in an entirely plastic-free household, which should be interesting when he comes to need his potty. According to Eugenie, “My son’s going to be a [climate] activist from two years old, which is in a couple of days.”

EU’s death sentence for cars hits a German roadblock

BRUSSELS — What was supposed to be an uncontroversial final approval of the EU’s plan to end the sale of new combustion engine cars and vans by 2035 is turning into a nail-biter that could upend the bloc’s effort to slash greenhouse gas emissions from transport.

German Transport Minister Volker Wissing threw out the EU etiquette book and warned Berlin would withhold its support for the final approval of the deal — something that is exceedingly rare once legislation has been negotiated with Parliament and backed by both MEPs and the Council.

A neo-feudal war on the people – The elites are steadily impoverishing the working and middle classes.

An author should be pleased to see his thesis bolstered by events. Yet since writing The Coming of Neo-Feudalism in 2020, I have not found any joy in the continued growth of the West’s class divides, as wealth becomes increasingly concentrated in ever fewer hands. The good news is that the working and middle classes are not yet out for the count, and are showing welcome signs of pushback against both state and corporate power.

Joe Oliver: The just transition is taking a slow boat to China

Most Western democracies, but especially Canada, passionately advocate climate policies that are weakening their collective ability to compete with an aggressive and antagonistic communist China. The green agenda helps China several ways: It saps the West’s economic prosperity and undermines its energy independence, while bolstering China’s economy and strengthening its national security, thereby advancing President Xi Jinping’s geopolitical ambitions.

Lunatic Guilbeault Vows To Go Full Climate Totalitarian On Business … is he marching to Xi’s tune?

Oilpatch emissions will fall ‘because we’re going to force them,’ environment minister says

When it comes to cutting carbon emissions, regular Canadians are doing their part.

Emissions from heating homes, driving cars, flying and even garbage are all down from 2005 levels.

But this progress on the path to net zero is being cancelled out by significant rises in emissions from big business and industry.

Recent revelations that the CCP has thoroughly infiltrated the Liberal Party makes me suspect that China dictates our so-called climate change policy.

Former Reuters science reporter: The media is lying about CO2 and a “climate crisis”

Is “lying” too strong a word? “Corrupt” may work better to describe the process in which the media has transformed itself into a propaganda amplifier, as Neil Winton described yesterday in the Daily Sceptic. A former science-tech reporter and editor at Reuters for 32 years, Winton had access to the top minds in those fields, as well as the studies and data they produced.

Grids Can’t Handle All the Solar and Wind Dems Want to Hook Up

Wind Turbine Scrap Heap

Biden is doing a victory lap over ‘green energy’ systems that won’t even be plugged in.

Surprise.

Our electric grids were shaky to begin with. They cover vast distances and are not being properly maintained. But then the Democrats come in with the brilliant idea of spending hundreds of billions on erratic and unreliable wind and solar which then delivers power erratically and puts a further strain on the grids. As the money gets shoveled out the door, unworkable and unfeasible green energy projects go out the door.

One condo owner’s advice on getting an EV charger installed in your parking spot

… The condo board spent $300,000 [to upgrade infrastructure for the entire building] and, of course, they want to recuperate that, so my share was $450. Then you need to register the charger with a lawyer. It’s part of the ownership of the parking spot so there are legal fees; that was about $350. In addition, you need to be metered for this new power. A utility company manages that in condo buildings, so they hook up a meter on that new line and charge you $10 a month service charge, plus your consumption. By the end of the day, all of these fees [including the electrician’s $5,000 bill] were around $6,000.

A good article that serves as a warning for condo owners lacking EV charging.

The other issue is insurance, especially after one of these fireworks goes up.

Higher taxes have failed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions confounding top level climate scientists named Justin Trudeau

GOLDSTEIN: Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions reportedly rise again in 2021

Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions went up by 19 million tonnes, or by 2.8%, in 2021 according to the Canadian Climate Institute, contradicting Trudeau government assurances that 2021 emissions would be lower than in 2020.

Indeed, if the institute’s numbers are accurate — the government’s official figures for 2021 won’t come out until April — this also bodes ill for former environment minister Jonathan Wilkinson’s prediction that Canada’s annual emissions would drop every year from 2020 to 2030
