Data Dive with Nik Nanos: How Canadians feel about the Israel-Hamas war

The war between Israel and Hamas is a major issue in Canada. The conflict has created tension across the country that is being felt in our communities. Politicians are feeling the pressure to say the “right” thing – and the right thing depends on how you feel about the war.

Canadians are worried. A new survey for CTV News by Nanos shows that seven in 10 Canadians are concerned (39 per cent) or somewhat concerned (30 per cent) that there will be an increase in hate-motivated incidents in our communities resulting from the conflict in the Middle East. Different generations of respondents are of one mind and consistent in their worry.

The Israeli army raided the hospital last week amid claims Hamas terrorists used a tunnel complex beneath the medical centre as a headquarters.

Reem: The refugee child who conquered the Germans and became an anti-Semite

The little refugee girl Reem became an anti-Semite – and a German citizen

Reem is a symbol of today’s Europe. Embraced by Merkel as a poor refugee child, today her posts show a map without Israel.

The mayor of Saint Gilles, Belgium, one Jean Spinette (a serious Socialist), wants to change the name of Saint Nicolas to “Sidi Nicolas”. “Sidi”, in Arabic, means “my Lord”. Elsewhere “Saint Nicholas” or “Santa Claus” is linked to Christmas Day. But in Belgium the bearded “saint” has a day all to himself: December 6, when “the great friend of children” distributes gifts.

And given that the city of Brussels’ region has chosen a representative of the Muslim Brotherhood for its candidacy as “European capital of culture” in 2030, the future masters of Belgium could change the name of dozens of cities starting with Saint-Gilles, continuing with Saint-Josse, Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Jette-Saint-Pierre and Saint-Job, finishing with the metro stations (Sainte-Catherine, Saint-Guidon).

Dear Justin Trudeau, rampant antisemitism on your watch is shameful

Open letter to the Right Hon. Justin Trudeau,

As one of your earliest supporters, I am dismayed by the deep divisions and disunity across the country and now within the Liberal party itself.

My late father and the Grafstein cousinhood have all been lifelong Liberals. My cousin Robert Kaplan was solicitor general in your father’s cabinet. He led the opening of the Second World War criminal dossiers. My cousin Phil Givens, after being mayor of Toronto, also served in your father’s Liberal caucus. I was appointed by your father to the Senate where I served 26 years representing Metro Toronto.

German police raid suspected Hamas and Samidoun properties

The German Interior Ministry on Thursday said police had conducted raids on properties in four federal states connected to suspected Hamas and Samidoun members.

Germany, along with the US, the EU and others, has designated Hamas a terrorist organization. Samidoun is an international pro-Palestinian network. Berlin had banned the activities of both organizations in early November.

“We continue our consistent action against radical Islamists,” German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said in a statement.

‘Jihad’ chants can be prosecuted as encouraging terrorism

Chants of jihad at pro-Palestine marches can be prosecuted as encouraging terrorism, the Government’s adviser on counter terror legislation has said.

In a report published on Wednesday, Jonathan Hall KC, the independent reviewer of terrorism legislation, said he did not believe there was any need to toughen anti-terror laws in the wake of the national pro-Palestine protests.

He said current legislation gave police sufficient powers to take action against “encouraging terrorism” such as calls to jihad and any changes would have unintended consequences that could damage freedom of speech.

John Robson: An ideology that claims to overflow with love yet excuses genocidal rape is truly evil

The Oct. 7 genocidal Hamas/Islamic Jihad attack on Israel had the silver lining of producing moral clarity. Which might seem poor compensation but when things are bad and getting worse fast, it’s vital to see them as they are. Including the perplexing fact that so many western feminists went off the deep end, or revealed themselves as having long since done so, to the point of denying that the jihadis committed savage acts of rape and butchery not merely from general depravity but as a preplanned weapon of terrorist genocide.
