The West is abandoning Israel

Is the West giving up on Israel? Given the scale and the barbarism of the 7 October pogrom, you might have expected more people to rally to Israel’s side. Instead, we have seen vast anti-Israel marches, an explosion in anti-Semitism and a widespread apologism for Hamas’s terror. Many among the establishment, media and political left seem to revel in chastising Israel as it seeks to defend itself from terrorism. What does this lack of solidarity say to people in Israel?

Israel releases footage of drone exploring ‘huge 55m-long Hamas tunnel under al-Shifa hospital’ – hours after troops said they discovered at least 35 tunnel shafts hiding weapons under more affluent areas of Gaza City

Israel’s Defence Forces have released shocking footage tonight revealing what it claims is a huge Hamas tunnel buried deep below the al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City.

The military, who have been carrying out an operation at the medical complex over the last week, said it had found a 55-metre-long passage 10-metres below the ground.

Officials said it had discovered a deep staircase equipped with ‘various defence mechanisms’ including a blast-proof door with a firing hole claiming the terror group were using the entrance to block out Israeli forces.

It’s Simple Why No Arab Countries Are Taking Palestinian Refugees. They Know Better.

When Israel began conducting airstrikes in Gaza, everyone knew there was going to be displacement. The military operation comes after Hamas invaded Israel on October 7, murdering 1,200-1,400 civilians in a coordinated assault involving well over 1,000 terrorists. The level of barbarity was unprecedented, leading to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu forming a unity government that aims to destroy Hamas. On October 28, the ground invasion began, leading to scores of Palestinians attempting to make their way south to safety. Hamas shot some who tried to flee.

Barbara Kay: How Quebec turned into a hotbed of antisemitism

On Sunday night, Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante stated the obvious: “At this moment, the Jewish community is under attack in Montreal.”

Bullets had been fired at two Jewish religious school doors in densely Jewish neighbourhoods last week (one school on two separate occasions), following attempted firebombings at a Jewish community centre and synagogue in the West Island. Jewish-owned businesses have been vandalized, and their owners targeted with hate on social media and in action.

Canada criminalized ‘condoning, denying or downplaying’ the Holocaust: is it working?

OTTAWA – Canadian Jewish organizations are calling on the Liberal government to remove what they see as barriers to enforcing a relatively new Criminal Code provision against Holocaust denialism amid a rise in antisemitism.

Shimon Koffler Fogel, CEO of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, said his organization had been asking the Liberals to criminalize Holocaust denialism, noting there are similar laws in France and Germany.

I doubt Trudeau will be keen on this.

When Neutrality is Immoral: Israel, Hamas, and the Problem of Moral Equivalence

Palestinian culture

October 7, 2023: Another day that will live in infamy: Israel’s Pearl Harbor. Israel’s 9/11. The quiet Shabbat morning of Simchat Torah, concluding the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles, suddenly turned into a bloodbath. Under the cover of heavy rocket fire, thousands of Hamas terrorists attacked Israel’s southern communities and left behind them a path of carnage and devastation, ambushing army bases and motorists, murdering some 364 people at a music festival, slaughtering families in their beds, raping women, executing children and Holocaust survivors, burning civilians alive, and kidnapping 244 people in Israel to Gaza. With at least 1,200 people murdered, it was the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust. The barbarity of the Hamas attack was so unprecedented that even the world was brutally — if briefly — jolted out of its usual apathy and left reeling in horror.

The ‘Occupation’ Lie, an excuse for massacring Jews

On October 7, 2023, we witnessed the worst attack on Jews since the Holocaust. We got a glimpse of what a Muslim ‘return’ looks like and what it means for our children. These horrific attacks will continue to e touted as a result of the “Occupation Lie”, although the real reason is simple Jew-hatred.

Now is the time for Israel to declare Yom San Remo and finally debunk the “Occupation” Lie.

J.D. Tuccille: Free speech lets us know who the antisemites are

One of the great benefits of a strong culture of free speech is that you get to see who people are. Are your neighbors principled? Are they hateful? Are they just plain nuts and worth avoiding? When my son saw who attended dueling protests on his college campus in recent weeks, he didn’t have to guess who everybody was; they put it all on display and he’s planning his interactions accordingly.

Western officials want the Palestinian Authority to lead postwar Gaza. Is it up to the task?

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas

Palestinian human rights activist Issa Amro, a well-known and outspoken critic of Israel, says he has been arrested, evicted and assaulted by Israeli soldiers.

But he also has harsh words for Palestinian officials — specifically, the Palestinian Authority (PA), the governing body in the West Bank.

“The main problem of the Palestinian Authority is corruption,” Amro, who has also been arrested by the PA, said in a recent interview. “A lot of corruption. And no elections, and no democracy — with human rights violations.”

Great choice.

No deal yet: Netanyahu shoots down ‘incorrect reports’ of imminent hostage agreement

Conrad Black: New York Times writer pretends to be very scared of Israel’s Netanyahu

New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, writing on Nov. 14, raised with concern the difference between the American and Israeli views of how Gaza should be governed after the presumably successful conclusion of Israel’s current military activity there. This in itself need not raise a high state of alarm as the same veteran commentator opined that former President Trump’s fictionalized collusion with Russia was as great an intrusion on and threat to American sovereignty as the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 and the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in 2001.

String of Ottawa events linked to antisemitism alarms local Jewish community

OTTAWA — A string of events in Ottawa linked to antisemitism is creating alarm among Jewish people in the capital city, with a community leader saying the Israel-Hamas war is exposing hatred that has existed for years.

An Ottawa woman is facing charges, including attempted arson to endanger life and damage property, after gasoline was poured in the clinical area of the General Campus of The Ottawa Hospital last week.

There were messages left nearby that police described as related to the conflict in Israel and the Gaza Strip, although they said they did not believe the incident was motivated by hate.
