Recognition of Palestinian state puts Canada at odds with U.S.

Canada, Britain and Australia officially recognized a Palestinian state on Sunday, a co-ordinated effort to put pressure on Israel as it wages war in Gaza, and to revive the chances of a two-state solution to the conflict.

Portugal followed suit with a similar statement later in the day, and France is expected to issue its recognition Monday.

The decision by Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government puts it at odds with this country’s most important ally, the United States, and represents a significant shift in Canadian foreign policy, which previously held that such recognition would come only after a negotiated peace agreement between Israeli and Palestinian leaders.

How Israel could retaliate against the growing push for recognition of a Palestinian state

France and Saudi Arabia hope to use this year’s gathering of world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly and the increasingly horrific war in the Gaza Strip to inject new urgency into the quest for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Those efforts include a new road map for eventual Palestinian statehood in territories Israel seized in the 1967 Mideast war, and moves by several Western countries to join a global majority in recognizing such a state before it has been established.

This should be fun.

Carney recognizes Palestinian state

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Canada’s formal recognition of a Palestinian state on Sunday, just ahead of his arrival in New York for the United Nations General Assembly.

Carney said in a statement that the Netanyahu government’s expansionist policies forced him to reverse Canada’s longstanding policy of waiting for a two-state solution to be achieved via a negotiated settlement.

“The current Israeli government is working methodically to prevent the prospect of a Palestinian state from ever being established … It is in this context that Canada recognises the State of Palestine and offers our partnership in building the promise of a peaceful future for both the State of Palestine and the State of Israel,” wrote Carney.

Conrad Black: Destroying Hamas is Israel’s righteous cause

The Gaza War seems finally to be reaching its climax. On one side, Israel’s opponents are accusing it of genocide and of trying to starve the Palestinians into surrender and Britain, France, and Canada are recognizing the completely discredited Palestine Authority as a sovereign government of “Palestine.” On the other, Israel is finally assaulting the citadel of its terrorist opposition, the intense complex of tunnels and redoubts at the centre of the City of Gaza. There will obviously be a profound inquiry in Israel into every aspect of this war, once it is over, and particularly into why Israel was taken by surprise as it was, and why it has taken until now for the Israeli Defense Forces finally to assault the ultimate strong point of Hamas. The implicit assumption of most of Israel’s critics that the October 7 incident was merely another skirmish in a long-standing border dispute between the Jews and Arabs towards an eventual demarcation between a Jewish and an Arab state is bunk. This was not just another border incident, following Britain’s cavalier promise of 1917 of making Palestine a homeland for the Jews without compromising the rights of the Arabs.

Given that Canada among other Islamist states has recognized Palestine the Israelis should wage war as if no one is watching.

‘Good Guy – Bad Guy’ Confusion: Anti-Israel Protests in the West

Hamas supporters – Avenue Road

The Israel-Hamas-Iran conflict, still dominating world news, remains volatile. Anti-Israel demonstrations — often devolving into violent riots – have taken place in many countries in the past 23 months. Some were even held on, or just days after, the Hamas massacres in Israel on October 7, 2023 – in support of the massacres. There have been so many events and social media statements that amount to vilifying Israel and the Jewish people — too many “incidents” to ignore. As a Dutch academic, I plead here for less emotion and more dispassionate factual debate on this tragic conflict and about the need for honest solutions for both sides.

Carney Secures Islamist Vote Bloc: Canada recognizes State of Palestine, offers help to build peaceful future with Israel

Canada now officially recognizes the State of Palestine and is doing so with international partners to preserve the prospect of a two-state solution, according to a statement from Prime Minister Mark Carney’s office released Sunday morning.

“Over many decades, Canada’s commitment to [a two-state solution] was premised on the expectation that this outcome would eventually be achieved as part of a negotiated settlement,” the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.

However, that possibility “has been steadily and gravely eroded” by several developments, including the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack on Israel, the Israeli parliament’s resolution supporting annexation of the occupied West Bank and the Israeli government’s restrictions on humanitarian aid.

Carney and the LPC will do anything for the Muslim vote.

I wonder how the Trump administration will take this?

Canada needs all evidence assessed before recognizing genocide in Gaza, says incoming UN ambassador

Incoming UN Ambassador David Lametti says Canada needs “all the evidence to come in” and be assessed before it recognizes whether Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza — and it usually follows the lead of a UN resolution or a ruling from the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

“This is certainly what we’ve done in other cases where a genocide has been recognized,” Lametti said in an interview with CBC’s The House that airs Saturday morning. “There is an international body of authority that rules in that manner, and then Canada moves to recognize it.

ISIS Calls for ‘Shoot, Stab, and Ram’ Attacks on Christians and Jews in UK

Islamic State has issued a fresh call for terror attacks across Britain, the United States, Europe, and beyond, urging followers to target Christians, Jews, and their “allies” in what it calls revenge for Israel’s ongoing offensive in Gaza.

In an online message titled O Zealous Monotheists, ISIS spokesman Abu Hudhaifa al-Ansari told supporters to “chase your prey… in the streets and roads of precious America, Europe, and the world. Break into their homes, kill them, and punish them by any means you can.”

War numbers, the most powerful weapon against Israel

Those Zionist magicians have allegedly killed more children than there were in the Gaza Strip before the war. Just read the numbers we are being fed.

“65,000 is the number of Palestinian Arabs killed with certainty, 75 percent of whom were women and children. But we should start thinking about 680,000, because this is the number some scholars and scientists claim is the true death toll in Gaza”.

We are in Geneva, at the UN Palace of Nations, and the speaker is Francesca Albanese, Special Rapporteur for the Palestinian Territories. Any doubts have been dispelled about the 65,000 deaths in Gaza, “of whom 75 percent were women and children,” a figure that has been repeated since October 8, 2023, when Israel’s military response to the Hamas pogrom began. According to Albanese, a leading figure among Palestinian Arab activists, the number is on the order of ten times that number, before adding that the figures – any ot them – cannot be verified.

Jewish groups, antisemitism envoy urge politicians not to use hate to score points

OTTAWA – After an outgoing federal envoy denounced some politicians for using antisemitism as a “partisan” prop, Jewish Canadian leaders are now calling on political parties to stop using it to score political points.

“It maddens me when they use Holocaust Remembrance Day as an opportunity to even advance positive actions for the Jewish people,” said B’nai Brith advocacy head Richard Robertson.

“It becomes a form of tokenization.”

The Radio-Canada controversy is not some politically correct language war – it’s far worse

On Monday afternoon, on Radio-Canada’s Ici RDI news channel, host Christian Latreille asked the network’s Washington, D.C.-based reporter, Élisa Serret, why the United States had not done more to distance itself from Israel. Her response led to Radio-Canada pulling her off the air and putting her on leave.

The uproar was more than justified. But it’s important to look at what she said, and what was wrong with it.

Australia’s Fantasy of Social Cohesion

In accordance with a policy of purported social cohesion and ostensibly to prevent “Islamophobia,” Australia’s Labor Party government, primarily represented by Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke, and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, perturbingly appear to be minimizing the malignant, often violent Jew-hatred now occurring in the major cities of Australia.

While many acts of terror are being perpetrated against the Jewish community (here and here), the Australian government has been fast-tracking hundreds of potentially dangerous Palestinians into the country as refugees without proper vetting.

Trump Must Keep Backing Netanyahu’s Campaign to Destroy Hamas for the Sake of the West

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to bomb Hamas’s terrorist leadership in Qatar should send a clear and unequivocal message to the Trump administration that the Israeli leader has absolutely no intention of ending hostilities in Gaza until Hamas is utterly destroyed, and all the remaining Israeli hostages have been returned.

Prior to Israel’s attack against the headquarters of Hamas’s terrorist leadership in Doha, the Qatari capital, US President Donald Trump had been pressing hard for Netanyahu to sign up to the latest version of the ceasefire proposal his administration has drawn up to end the Gaza conflict.

Israel is damned if they do and damned if they don’t. May as well go for it.
