Chris Selley: Suddenly, Toronto police decide now that Jews shouldn’t be harassed in their homes?

An interesting development last week on the front lines of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict — which to some truly awful people means a Jewish neighbourhood in North Toronto. Toronto police announced that henceforth, “due to the changing security landscape in Toronto in recent weeks, including increased volatility and heightened fear in our communities, demonstrations moving into residential neighbourhoods in the Bathurst (Street) and Sheppard (Avenue) area presents an unacceptable risk to public safety.”

I wonder what went on behind the scenes to trigger this sudden about face? Lawsuit?

The War on Civilization: ‘Israel Cannot Outsource Its Survival’

A Conversation with Pierre Rehov

“The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality, today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct Palestinian people to oppose Zionism.” — Zoheir Mohsen, late PLO senior official, Trouw, March 31, 1977.

Leaked Chat Exposes Antisemitism Row in UK Green Party

Green Party activists are facing mounting backlash after leaked WhatsApp messages revealed members describing Jews as “an abomination to this planet” and promoting conspiracy claims about attacks on Jewish targets.

The messages, first reported by The Telegraph, come from a Greens for Palestine group chat and have prompted calls for party leader Zack Polanski to take action, amid warnings of growing antisemitism within the party’s activist base.

In one exchange, a participant wrote that Jews were “an abomination to this planet” during a discussion about Israel and Zionism. Other messages show members claiming Jews “murder, bomb and starve” children and arguing activists should stop using the term ‘Zionists’ out of fear of being labelled antisemitic.

Fiery assassination plot against prominent Palestinian activist Nerdeen Kiswani foiled by NYPD intel, FBI

A New Jersey man’s assassination plot to firebomb a prominent Palestinian activist’s home with Molotov cocktails was dramatically foiled Thursday after a months-long NYPD intelligence bureau probe, officials and sources said.

Federal agents raided Alexander Heifler’s home in Hoboken on Thursday after he allegedly schemed to attack Nerdeen Kiswani — the founder of the pro-Palestinian group Within Our Lifetime — and flee to Israel, sources said.

Not surprised that someone chose to retaliate.

The chair of McGill Law School’s Faculty Advisory Board resigned on Sunday in a public letter, faulting university leaders for turning a blind eye to antisemitism on campus.

Police are banning pro-Palestinine protesters from residential streets in this Toronto neighbourhood

A police spokesperson said barring Palestinian activists from residential streets in York Centre was a “targeted response to specific safety concerns,” but demonstrators say it violates their rights.

Police are banning pro-Palestinian activists from demonstrating in residential parts of a North Toronto Jewish community, a decision that’s drawing praise from the local councillor, but pushback from protesters who say it violates their rights.

The Toronto Police Service (TPS) confirmed to the Star on Monday that it is ordering protesters not to picket on residential streets near the intersection of Bathurst Street and Sheppard Avenue, the site of regular demonstrations and counter-demonstrations since Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023 attack on Israel and the country’s ensuing assault on Gaza.

Drawings at an “anti-Semitic” art exhibition allegedly showing Jewish people eating babies are not “directly abusive or insulting” to Jews, a police force has decided.

Kent Police has ruled that art in the exhibition condemned by leading Jewish figures and politicians for portraying anti-Semitic tropes has not reached the threshold to be considered either a hate crime or a non-crime hate incident.

Labour council promotes exhibition showing ‘Jews’ eating babies

An “anti-Semitic” art exhibition with drawings allegedly showing Jewish people eating babies was seemingly promoted by a Labour council.

The Drawings Against Genocide exhibition at an independent gallery in Margate, Kent, features hundreds of crudely-drawn pictures that critics claim contain anti-Semitic tropes.

It is the work of Matthew Collings, 70, formerly one of the country’s leading art critics, who said the art was “about raising consciousness about hell” and that “Israel is the pure encapsulation of it” through its actions in Gaza.

As mayor of Vaughan, I’m urging Mark Carney to meet our Jewish community

I have an urgent request for Prime Minister Mark Carney: please come to Vaughan, Ont., to meet with our Jewish community.

As Vaughan’s mayor, I want you to know that Jews here feel angry, scared, defiant, tired, shocked and beleaguered. Who can blame them? I’ve lived my entire life in this country, but I have never before witnessed the shocking levels of antisemitism and Jew hatred we now see so regularly. I never imagined I would. Not here. Not in Canada.

Del Duca is lying.

He supported the Liberal Party and that means he supported their immigration policy that opened the floodgates to incompatible cultures like Islam.

I have no doubt he would smear anyone who opposed the death cult as an Islamophobe and a racist.

I hate that these pols are trying to wash their hands of responsibility.

Attack against Canadian Jewish community a ‘realistic possibility,’ federal report warns

A violent extremist attack against Canada’s Jewish community is a “realistic possibility” in the next six months, the federal Integrated Threat Assessment Centre warns in a report obtained by The Globe and Mail.

ITAC, which is a specialized organization in the Canadian intelligence community, also said it is unlikely that “Iranian lethal operations” in Canada would target Jewish public officials, such as MPs and cabinet ministers who support Israel. ITAC shared the report with the federal government and often shares such information with people or organizations that could be affected.

Don’t worry folks the threat has ended, the CBC found a couple more Nazis

Apparently Muslims love Jews and would never attack them according to the CBC.

Antisemitism has reached alarming levels. Now what?

Yes, this is another column about antisemitism. If you’re wondering, why are they on about this again, have a peek at the news. If you’re grumbling – enough already! – maybe there’s a different question you should ask yourself.

Antisemitism is infecting daily life – violently and openly. But also more quietly, even silently. Each act, from microaggression to murder, fuses to create an atmosphere of normalcy for this hatred. And for the hated? Fear.

Keep pretending Islam can be reasoned with, that it can be integrated and before you know it Canada will be just like the UK or the Great White Banlieue! Nothing ever gets better with Islam.

Guardian amends ‘antisemitic’ opinion piece about Gail’s bakery

The Guardian has amended an opinion piece about Gail’s bakery after it caused controversy among readers, Jewish staff and the boss of the high street chain.

The article was edited on Tuesday evening to clarify a reference to the opening of a branch as “an act of heavy-handed high street aggression”.

Published on Saturday under the headline “A corner of north London where food has become a battleground in the Israel-Gaza war”, the article by Jonathan Liew prompted accusations of antisemitism against the Jewish-heritage business.
