Is this the death rattle of Iranian tyranny?

So now we know it is possible for something to be both horrific and farcical. The known death toll of the wave of missiles fired by Iran into Israel yesterday is as follows: Israelis 0, Palestinians 1. Yes, the Islamic Republic, in its preening, violent display of solidarity with Palestine and Lebanon against the Great Satan of the Jewish State, laid waste to just one life. That of a 37-year-old labourer from Gaza who’d been living near Jericho in the West Bank, brutally slain by the falling shrapnel from one of Iran’s missiles. The Israelophobes of social media who salivated over Iran’s attack were cheering a military operation that killed yet another Gazan. You couldn’t make it up.

Are Canada’s Jews at a tipping point? Most are anxious, many are fearful, and some have moved away

The soaring brick façade and sparce windows of Congregation Machzikei Hadas are easily mistaken for a school or a prison, its faddish 1970s architecture masking the Ottawa synagogue’s century-old roots. Inside, Rabbi Idan Scher tends a congregation of about 350 Jewish families cycling through their religious calendar and life’s unstoppable milestones.

You’re kidding, you expected them to integrate? Windsor mosque honours slain Hezbollah leader, sparking online outrage

A well-attended gathering at a Windsor mosque on Sunday to celebrate the slain leader of Hezbollah — listed by Canada and other countries as a terrorist group — has sparked online outrage.

“We don’t believe Hassan Nasrallah is a terrorist,” said Hussein Dabaja, a co-organizer of the Windsor gathering and a Lebanese-born Hezbollah supporter.

Conflict in Middle East Is Result of Power Vacuum

The best thing that could happen is a swift and forceful joint military response.

After launching 200 missiles against Israel, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on X that his country does not want a war. If the launching of hundreds of missiles against the Israeli civilian population is, as Pezeshkian insinuates, almost a gesture of friendship, I wonder what they will do the day they want to start a war.

The Iranian president also asks Israel not to respond to the attack. Or to the defense, as the Iranians term it. Ayatollah Khamenei, who has the last word, insinuated that Iran had merely defended itself from an alleged Israeli attack, supposedly alluding to the Hezbollah leaders that Israel has managed to wipe off the map. There are a lot of things you can learn about the conflict just by reading the Iranians’ comments to both leaders’ messages.

Anti-Muslim hate in US rises since 7 October say advocates of Israel’s destruction

Anti-Muslim hate in US rises since 7 October but advocates praise community resilience

Arafat Issa hangs Palestinian flags across a pedestrian bridge in Durham, North Carolina, almost every week. But on 28 July, a man in a baseball cap pulled out a knife and cut the flags down from the steel railing. Issa says the man cursed at him and his family before waving the knife in their direction. They had two small children, including Issa’s four-month-old daughter, with them.

“He told us: go back where you came from,” Issa says. “I was scared … it’s not like we were doing anything wrong. We were peacefully protesting.”

Issa is a 42-year-old Palestinian American barber who has lived in North Carolina for more than a decade. His parents and siblings are in the West Bank, where settler violence against Palestinians is escalating. His experience is one of many examples of anti-Palestinian and anti-Muslim hate documented by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (Cair) since 7 October of last year. “We are seeing an uptick in violent vigilante response to peaceful pro-Palestinian protesters,” said Nicole Fauster-Bradford, a community advocacy director at Cair.

Explosions and gunshots at Israeli embassies in Sweden and Denmark

A gunman opened fire on the Israeli embassy in Stockholm and two bombs were set off near its counterpart in Copenhagen, in what one prominent terrorism expert described as an apparent escalation of Iran’s “shadow war” against Jewish targets in Europe.

At least one gunshot was aimed at the embassy in Stockholm at about 6pm on Tuesday. At 3.20am on Wednesday, two hand grenades were detonated about 100m away from the embassy in the Danish capital.

Israeli Response to Iran’s Attack to Set Course of Widening War

The U.S. is hoping for a measured reaction, but it has limited ability to influence its closest Middle East ally

As Israel weighs how to respond to Tehran’s latest missile barrage, it could take a page from its previous playbook when, after days of deliberation, its military targeted a single Iranian military site.

Few expect Israel’s response to be as narrow this time, posing a fresh test as the Biden administration seeks to avoid a new spiral of escalation.

“The U.S. already lacks sufficient diplomatic leverage to compel a cease-fire in Gaza and Lebanon,” said Jonathan Panikoff, a former U.S. intelligence officer now with the Atlantic Council, a Washington-based think tank.

Why Arabs Are Celebrating the Death of Hassan Nasrallah

Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorist group in Lebanon who was killed in an Israeli airstrike on September 27, was often described by many in the West as a “formidable enemy” of Israel. Nasrallah’s death, however, has shown that many Arabs, including some of his fellow Lebanese citizens, also considered him an enemy and arch-terrorist. The Hezbollah chief was responsible for killing not only a large number of Israelis over the past three decades, but also many Arabs, especially in Lebanon and Syria.

That is probably why the news of Nasrallah’s elimination was greeted with jubilation by many Israelis and Arabs.

Mélanie Joly says war has broken out in Middle East — and ‘all parties’ must agree to ceasefire

OTTAWA — After Iran’s stunning missile attacks on Israel and Israel-led ground operations into Lebanon, Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly said Tuesday war has broken out in the Middle East and called on “all parties” to agree to a ceasefire to avoid devastating civilian casualties.

Joly said Canada “unequivocally” condemns Iran’s missile attacks on Israel which “will only serve to further destabilize the region, and it must stop,” as she issued another urgent warning to Canadians to leave Lebanon — warnings she admitted have not been widely heeded. On the contrary, another cabinet minister said some Lebanese-Canadians are taking a risk and “actually going to Lebanon” against the government’s advice.

Defeating Hezbollah Will Strengthen the West

The Israeli military campaign against Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorists is not just an exercise in safeguarding Israel from suffering further bombardment from tens of thousands of missiles and attack drones.

An Israeli victory against Hezbollah’s terrorist infrastructure in Lebanon is vital to guaranteeing the security of the entire Western alliance. It will send a clear signal to Iran — Hezbollah’s paymasters — that the ayatollahs’ unremitting campaign against the West and its allies is ultimately doomed to failure.

Usual Suspects join Australian, New Zealand peers in pushing for Palestine statehood

Heather Mcpherson MP

OTTAWA – Canadian members of Parliament are working with their colleagues in Australia and New Zealand to try and convince their respective governments to jointly recognize Palestinian statehood.

NDP MP Heather McPherson, who is leading an effort to recruit Canadian MPs, said building on work the three governments have already done might be the best leverage to advance a two-state solution.
