Macron is right about Islamism

The political ideology that feeds terrorist violence cannot be explained away by religion or colonial history

President Macron’s hate affair with the American media continues, if a recent New York Times article is anything to go by. The president is not happy, and thinks the Anglo-Saxon press fails to understand French laïcité and the universalist model, as opposed to the Anglosphere model of multiculturalism, with its distinct roots in the British Empire. While this is undoubtedly true, the more pressing issue might be the gulf in understanding of Islamism, the target of Macron’s campaign.

Four more children are charged over French teacher’s beheading: Group includes daughter of man who launched campaign against Samuel Paty for showing Mohammed cartoons

Four more people – all of them teenage students – have been charged in connection with the brutal murder of teacher Samuel Paty in France last month.

Three of the four students have been charged with identifying Paty to 18-year-old Chechen Abdullakh Anzorov, who beheaded him before being shot dead by police.

The fourth is the daughter of Brahim Chnina, leader of a campaign against Paty, who claimed to have been in class when he showed cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed but is now charged with lying after it emerged she did not attend his lessons.

Islamophobia! OSCE report shows Jews and Christians victimized by hate crimes at higher rate than Mohammedans

Nearly 1/4 of hate crimes in Europe last year were anti-Semitic, new OSCE report shows

Out of 6,694 hate incidents recorded in Europe and Central Asia last year, 1,704 were anti-Semitic. This was the category with the second-largest number of incidents after 3,033 instances listed under the more general “racism and xenophobia” category.

The third-largest group was bias based on sexual orientation or gender identity (1,278 cases), followed by bias against Christians (577) and Muslims (511).

New ‘Study’ Claims ‘Far-Right Terrorism’ is ‘Bigger Threat to West Than Islamic State’

Confirming what all of our self-proclaimed moral superiors already knew, Euractiv.com reported Wednesday that according to a new study that has just been issued by the Institute of Economics and Peace (IEP), “the number of far-right terrorist acts has risen by 250% since 2014. When it comes to fatalities, the increase was even more than 700% within five years, with 89 people killed in 2019.” In fact, “there are now more right-wing attacks than at any other time in the past 50 years, with 13 far-right terrorist attacks that had each killed more than 10 people, compared to 24 Islamist attacks, and three linked to other ideologies, the report found.” As Benjamin Disraeli put it, “There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.”

Assailant in Swiss knife attack was known jihadist, say police

A Swiss woman who knifed a victim in the neck and grabbed another by the throat in a department store in the Swiss city of Lugano on Tuesday was a known jihadist who fell in love with a militant online and tried to meet him in Syria, say police.

Muslim terrorist with ingrained extremist ideology & whose behavior has been mostly terrible since being imprisoned is about to be released on parole

The first person to be convicted of trying to leave Canada to join a terrorist group remains “too high a risk” a month before his scheduled release from prison, according to the Parole Board of Canada.

In a decision released Tuesday, the Parole Board said Mohamed Hassan Hersi’s behaviour had been mostly “terrible” since he was imprisoned in 2014 and imposed restrictions he must follow upon his release.

They include living at a halfway house, having no unsupervised access to the internet and undergoing treatment to deal with “ingrained extremist ideologies and violent behaviour.”

A Toronto currency exchange business helped Iran secretly wire millions of dollars into Canada in violation of sanctions, according to a classified intelligence report that calls the financial transfers a threat to national security.

A Canadian Security Intelligence Service report obtained by Global News accuses Alireza Onghaei, the investor immigrant behind the company, of “assisting the government of Iran in the clandestine wiring of monies into Canada.”

Georgetown Features Academic Who Likens Austrian Counter-Terror Measures to Kristallnacht

In the wake of the recent jihad attack in Vienna, Austrian authorities are cracking down on Muslim organizations that have been discovered to be exhorting or approving of jihad terror activity – and Georgetown University’s Hamas-linked Bridge Initiative is not happy. On Thursday, it published a weepy self-pitying piece entitled “Xinjiang and Kristallnacht in Austria: Freedom of Religion Under Threat” by Farid Hafez, a political scientist in Austria who sees in Austria’s counterterror measures nothing less than a new Holocaust on the horizon. Of course! Why else would anyone oppose jihad violence, other than out of a desire to perpetrate genocide? This is what passes for academic discourse at Georgetown these days.

It’s ‘sweet relief’ to be home, says US boy forced to threaten Trump in IS video

An American boy who was made to threaten President Donald Trump in an Islamic State group video says it was “sweet relief” to return to the US.

Matthew, taken to Syria by his mother and stepfather, was 10 when he was filmed telling Mr Trump to prepare for a battle on US soil.

Now 13, he has been living with his father for a year, after being flown home by the US military in 2018.

“It’s happened and it’s done. It’s all behind me now,” he told the BBC.

“I was so young I did not really understand any of it.”

What’s Behind Iran’s Terror Campaign in Europe?

A trial due to begin next week in the Belgian city of Antwerp is set to cast further light on the Islamic Republic of Iran’s use of official diplomatic missions in its ongoing campaign of violence and harassment of its opponents across the globe. While the threat of activities by non-state Sunni jihadi organizations remains high on the agenda of many western countries, the flouting by Iran of global norms in pursuit of the regime’s perceived enemies has received little focus. The Antwerp trial may serve to change this.
