Pakistan couple beat child maid to death with a rolling pin over missing chocolate

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — A Pakistani couple appeared in court on Thursday accused of murdering a child maid, who police said they beat with a rolling pin for allegedly stealing chocolate.

Thirteen-year-old Iqra, who had only one name, was taken to hospital in the garrison city of Rawalpindi on Tuesday in a critical condition and later died of severe injuries.

… Child labour in domestic work remains widespread in Pakistan, according to an International Labour Organization report from 2022, with one in every four households employing a child in domestic work, predominantly girls aged 10-14.

BERLIN (AP) — Alternative for Germany appears to be heading for its strongest national election result yet this month and is fielding its first candidate to lead the country. Even though it’s highly unlikely to take a share of power soon, it has become a factor that other politicians can’t ignore and helped shape Germany’s debate on migration.

The far-right party first entered Germany’s national parliament eight years ago on the back of discontent with the arrival of large numbers of migrants in the mid-2010s, and curbing migration remains its signature theme. But the party has proven adept at harnessing discontent with other issues: Germany’s move away from fossil fuels, restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic and support for Ukraine after Russia’s full-scale invasion nearly three years ago.

A Mini Cooper drove into a group of people in the Bavarian capital. At least 27 people were injured. At least two people are said to be “very seriously injured”. A child’s life is in danger.

The driver involved in the accident was arrested by the police . He is a 24-year-old Afghan.

We have seen so much of the Trudeau government’s perfidious hypocrisy and moral bankruptcy on the Israel-Hamas War that one would think he could do nothing more that civilized people would consider revolting. Well, we were wrong.

After all, how much more aid and comfort — moral and material -could he give to an enemy like Hamas than he has already? Yes, an enemy. What else would one call an organization listed as terrorists by Canada.

A secret summit was held in a 17th-century Scottish castle between Britain’s most senior Jewish and Muslim faith leaders, resulting in the signing of historic “reconciliation” accords that were presented to the King.

The King met the faith leaders in the 1844 Room at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday afternoon. He said of the accords “I’m so glad to hear about this,” and added that it was “the least I can do” to host them. He asked: “Did it take a long time to arrange this?”

The Somali branch has become the Islamic State’s new operational and financial hub, according to U.S. Africa Command (Africom), and local officials estimate there are as many as 1,000 militants under its command. Large numbers of foreign fighters have flowed into Somalia, establishing a formidable force that now threatens Western targets. The group, known as al-Karrar, has also become a key source of funding for other Islamic State affiliates around the world, which have killed thousands of people, including U.S. soldiers, according to U.N. investigators.
