ROME – Italy’s “far-right” Premier Giorgia Meloni on Sunday rejected criticism from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the G7 Summit about her government’s stance on LGBTQ+ rights.
A reporter asked Meloni about the criticism at a news conference early Sunday in Hiroshima, Japan, which is hosting the annual summit of leaders from seven of the world’s leading industrialized nations.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called out Italian leader Giorgia Meloni’s stance on LGBTQ+ rights in a meeting Friday on the margins of the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan.
“Obviously, Canada is concerned about some of the (positions) that Italy is taking in terms of LGBT rights,” Trudeau told Meloni, who was visibly annoyed, according to multiple media outlets.
“But I look forward to talking with you about that,” he added before the start of the meeting.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has accused Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of behaving inappropriately by leaking the substance of a conversation between the two leaders to the media.
The accusations came as the pair crossed paths in a public space in Bali, Indonesia, where both leaders are attending the G20 summit.
“Everything we discuss has been leaked to the paper; that’s not appropriate,” Xi told Trudeau through an interpreter.

Trudeau deletes tweet falsely claiming Iran has sentenced 15,000 protesters to death
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau deleted a tweet containing false information on mass death sentences in Iran, after a viral campaign on social media circulated the fake news.
Celebrities and users shared a picture on Instagram showing a woman holding an Iranian flag with the caption “Iran sentences 15,000 protesters to death — as a ‘hard lesson’ for all rebels.”
Instagram has since tagged the post as “False Information” and said “Independent fact-checkers say this information has no basis in fact.”

According to a senior government source, Trudeau initiated a conversation with Xi following a morning meeting of world leaders in Bali, Indonesia. It last a few minutes, and the leaders discussed the election reports, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and North Korea.
