Nepal’s prime minister Sharma Oli resigns after 20 killed in protests

KP Sharma Oli, the four-time Nepalese prime minister and Community Party leader, has resigned a day after at least 20 anti-corruption protesters were killed by security forces in Kathmandu.

Nepalese politicians across Kathmandu were also attacked and their homes set on fire by demonstrators as protests continued in the face of a government shutdown of 26 social media platforms.

Footage has emerged showing the bloodied face of the former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba in his home, after he was attacked and captured by protesters. Another video reported by local media shows the finance minister Bishnu Paudel being chased through the street and violently kicked.
