RCMP investigating Ontario government’s plan to open Greenbelt land for development

The RCMP announced Tuesday it has launched a criminal investigation into Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s plan to open up Greenbelt land for development.

“Following a referral from the Ontario Provincial Police, the RCMP O Division’s Sensitive and International Investigations (SII) unit has now launched an investigation into allegations associated to the decision from the Province of Ontario to open parts of the Greenbelt for development,” RCMP Cpl. Christy Veenstra said in a statement Tuesday.

It added that no further updates will be provided at this time to ensure that the investigation process leads to a “fair and proper” outcome.

Sabrina Maddeaux: Forget Greenbelt scandal, Doug Ford lost his best cabinet minister

Given the state of Canadian politics, it’s rare to find myself bothered by a politician’s resignation. In fact, it’s usually the opposite — the list of elected officials I think should resign for a variety of screw ups grows ever longer.

However, I was upset at the news of now-former Ontario minister of labour, immigration, training and skills development Monte McNaughton’s departure for a private sector job.

Ontario’s minimum wage rises by nearly 7 per cent

Nearly a million minimum wage earners in Ontario got a pay bump today.

On Oct. 1, Ontario’s minimum wage, the lowest wage employers are permitted to pay their workers per hour, rose from $15.50 to $16.55, a 6.8 per cent increase.

For a person earning the general minimum wage and working 40 hours a week, that equates to an annual raise of about $2,200.

$16.55 per hour equals about $2,868.00 a month gross, unless my math is way wrong, (not unpossible.)

Hundreds of tenants at 2 North York buildings to join rent strike

“Canada post is saying bed bug infestation in your building and they are not going to deliver mail but for the landlord it’s OK for people to live in these conditions,” said Bruno Dobrusin, an organizer with the York South-Weston Tenant Union.

‘It was a mistake’: Doug Ford says government will reverse Greenbelt land swap decision

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says his government will be reversing its Greenbelt land swap decision and won’t make changes to the Greenbelt in the future.

The premier said he broke a promise when he decided to open the Greenbelt for housing development.

A person is allowed to change their mind but this whole deal was “Old Boy Sketchy” from the start.

A grim report about climate change in Ontario was kept quiet for 8 months

Southern Ontario to see 60 days of temperatures over 30 degrees by 2080s: report

A new report commissioned by Premier Doug Ford’s government warns that climate change poses high risks to Ontario, with impacts on everything from food production to infrastructure to businesses.

The report – called the Provincial Climate Change Impact Assessment – projects a soaring number of days with extreme heat across Ontario, as well as increases in flooding and more frequent wildfires.

Presented to the government in January but only posted publicly in late August, the government did not issue a news release about the report. It follows a summer where Ontarians faced at times extreme heat, heavy rainstorms and unprecedented wildfire smoke.

Boy that’s some entrail reader they must have. Imagine being able to predict the temperature in the 2080’s.

These are the same guys who think EV’s are a smart move.

RCMP now in charge of potential investigation into Ford government’s Greenbelt land swap

The RCMP said Wednesday it has received a referral from provincial police in Ontario to “investigate irregularities” in the Ford government’s controversial Greenbelt land swap.

“We will review and assess the information received and will take appropriate action as deemed necessary,” an RCMP spokesperson said in an email.

“As the investigation is in its infancy and is ongoing, we decline to offer any further comments.”

Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives ‘favoured certain developers’ in controversial Greenbelt plan, auditor general finds in scathing report

Premier Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives “favoured certain developers” in a controversial Greenbelt land swap that could make the landowners $8.28 billion, the auditor general says.

In a searing 93-page report to the legislature Wednesday, Bonnie Lysyk found Ford’s opening up of 7,400 acres of environmentally protected land last fall “cannot be described as a standard or defensible process.”

Majority of Ontarians think Doug Ford’s decisions benefit ‘friends and supporters,’ poll finds

Premier Doug Ford may be sailing along this summer, but storm clouds are forming for his Progressive Conservatives, a new Abacus Data poll suggests.

While Abacus found Ford’s Progressive Conservatives at 41 per cent support compared to 24 per cent for the leaderless Liberals, 23 per cent for Marit Stiles’s NDP and seven per cent for Mike Schreiner’s Greens, there are ominous signs for the governing party.

Randall Denley: Ontario finally dumps the Liberals’ naive green-energy ideology

The age of energy ideology is over in Ontario, replaced by power pragmatism. The Ontario government’s new and ambitious plan to meet the province’s power needs until 2050 draws on pretty much every known technology to meet a demand for power that could double by that year.

One doesn’t have to look too far back to remember the era of overhyped and overpriced wind and solar projects that former premier Dalton McGuinty’s Liberal government was so eager to foist off on Ontarians. Across the province, the countryside is scarred with wind farms and solar installations. It was the sort of approach that a government could toy with, knowing that the province had surplus power so it didn’t need to rely on wind and solar.

‘How did this government fail to notice?’ Doug Ford’s Tories under fire after ex-bureaucrat admits stealing $47.4M

Premier Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives are under fire after former provincial bureaucrat Sanjay Madan was able to steal $47.4 million in taxpayers’ money.

NDP Leader Marit Stiles is demanding to know how Madan could dupe the Tories and the previous Liberal government between 2011 and 2020.

“Where was the government — both the Liberals and the Conservatives — when (almost) $50 million of government funding went out the door?” Stiles thundered Wednesday.

2 + 2 = White Supremacy: How Woke Ideologues Corrupted Canada’s Math Curriculum

Two plus two no longer equals four, according to members of the Ontario Mathematics Coordinators Association (OMCA), who consider the equation to be a white-supremacist dog whistle instead of a basic mathematical truth.

According to a webinar created by OMCA president Jason To, proponents of math’s political neutrality who use the phrasing “2 + 2 = 4” are engaged in an act of “Covert White Supremacy.”

Has the Ford government done anything to counter this lunacy?

Ontario’s 2023 budget braces for economic slowdown, with contingency fund and cautious investments

Ontario Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy unveiled a budget on Thursday that he says shores up the province for uncertain economic times, while still managing to balance the books in 2024-25, offer new tax breaks to manufacturers, speed up planned cash for home care and add funding for supportive housing.

Oh Oh… No big cash injection for Toronto in Ontario budget

It wasn’t the budget Toronto was hoping for.

Despite months of pleading from city leaders, the $204.7-billion provincial spending plan released by Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy on Thursday didn’t include the major funding injection the municipality says it needs to shore up its COVID-battered accounts.
