PINDER: The woke are having a nightmare

Early in his 60 year career, Bob Dylan, one of the world’s greatest songwriters, wrote “The Times, They Are A-Changin.” Capturing, and perhaps influencing the mood, it became an anthem for a generation.

Change isn’t necessarily positive. In recent decades, slowly and then rapidly, the culture of North America and beyond, has descended into a progressive wasteland of self-serving, often racist, and increasingly nasty intolerance. Universities, corporations, and governments have initiated Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) plans that exclude those arbitrarily deemed favoured, often characterized as settlers and colonialists.

Stéphane Sérafin: Defunding threats will not be enough to rid universities of systemic wokeism

Tweeting on Christmas Eve, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre promised to “defund wokism and fight antisemitism. And stand with our friends in Israel against terror.” The statement included a link to an interview he gave to the Winnipeg Jewish Review, in which he said he would “defund … all those with a woke antisemitic agenda,” including universities.

Leigh Revers: Universities better get prepared for Poilievre’s anti-woke agenda

The recent spectacular and decisive presidential election victory by Donald Trump — a self-styled benevolent “dictator” swept to power with an unequivocal mandate from U.S. voters — has become what can only be described as a political tsunami for left-leaning observers.

Vast change is in the offing. The political tectonic plates have shifted, prompting shattering eruptions along a number of predictable fault lines.

Woke carols are the latest sign of a church that’s lost faith in its convictions

Church of England clergy have been urged to avoid ‘problematic’ hymns – it’s no wonder the pews are empty

If you’re planning to attend a carol service tomorrow night, you might want to check out the hymn sheet first – make sure you don’t end up bellowing out: O Come, All Ye Wokeful.

You see, priests have been told to edit popular carols this Christmas in order to avoid (I really need to create a custom keyboard shortcut for this phrase) “causing unnecessary offence”. Quite why you would be in a church to begin with if you found Christianity so offensive has not been made clear.

Do you see many vegans in butchers demanding to talk to the managers? Last time you were down the pub, did you notice any teetotallers raging at the landlord about his “disgusting wall of booze”?

Canadian military deployed “gender advisors” to Ukraine, Haiti

The Canadian Armed Forces has been deploying “gender advisors” to international operations, including in Ukraine and Haiti, as part of a broader push to integrate gender ideology into military activities abroad.

This initiative, highlighted in the Department of National Defence’s recently released 2024 Departmental Report, is drawing sharp criticism from veterans and observers who question its relevance during active conflicts and humanitarian crises.

Pretty sure our armed forces need to be shut down and rebuilt from the ground up.

Wages of Wokesterism: San Francisco’s glitzy 62-shop Crocker Galleria becomes a ghost town, housing just three tenants

San Francisco threw out its wokester mayor, London Breed, in favor of a more moderate alternative, and before that, its literally-Chavista district attorney, Chesa Boudin, raised by Bill Ayers, whose only interest was in prosecuting the police.

But the damage remains, and not just in the city’s abundant bums on the street doing drugs.

Toronto city manager’s rejection of ridiculous report should be applauded

Something interesting and rather encouraging just happened at Toronto City Hall. (You can’t say that every day.) A leading official pushed back just a little against the reigning orthodoxies of our time and said: Hey, wait a minute. For that, he deserves not just our thanks but our cheers. We should be carrying him through the streets on our shoulders.

The official is Paul Johnson. He is city manager, the highest unelected official in Toronto’s government. He was reacting to a report from Ombudsman Kwame Addo, who plays a watchdog role down at City Hall. The report looked at a brief period in 2022 and 2023, when the city was turning refugee claimants away from its main system of homeless shelters.

‘Celebrating Diversity’: Biden’s Army, Navy Nominees Pushed DEI Ideology While In Uniform

Army and Navy officials recently promoted by President Joe Biden pushed neo-Marxist ideology in the military, The Federalist has learned.

According to a Nov. 15 Pentagon press release, Biden promoted Army Cols. Peter L. Gilbert and Antwan L. Dunmyer to the rank of brigadier general. Gilbert served as commander of the 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command at Fort Liberty (formerly known as Fort Bragg) in North Carolina, while Dunmyer served as the deputy commander of operations for the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell in Kentucky.

Statistics Canada has gone woke and it’s affecting its data

Statistics Canada is tasked with collecting, collating and publishing accurate information about the Canadian experience. Things it shouldn’t do: hide information from the public and randomly distribute the data it collects. A recent Statistics Canada report does both.

In October, Statistics Canada released the results of a survey of the drinking habits of Canadians. “A snapshot of alcohol consumption levels in Canada” asked Canadians how much they had drunk in the previous seven days. According to the topline figure, not much.

Mark D’Souza: Ensuring TMU medical school doesn’t sink on her maiden voyage

With a year to go before its proposed launch, the shadow of the soft bigotry of TMU’s social justice-based medical school already hangs over us. A former specialist colleague reached out to tell me her patient just got a new family doctor who is Black, and he was worried if this doctor was competent or an affirmative action hire. She told him all current doctors have gone through the most stringent of examinations. But will her answer change in a few years? It feels like TMU’s medical school is the Titanic in harbour about to sail on its doomed maiden voyage.

‘Sorry I can’t understand your accent’ could be racial discrimination

Telling someone with a foreign accent you can’t understand them could be racial harassment, a senior tribunal judge has said.

Commenting on or criticising the way someone from another country or ethnic group speaks could breach employment law, Judge James Tayler said.

The senior circuit judge of the Employment Appeal Tribunal (EAT) made the ruling following a case about a university worker who sued when she received criticism over her “strong” Brazilian accent.
