Mark Zuckerberg seeks ‘active role’ in Trump tech policy

Mark Zuckerberg and Donald Trump, who have previously engaged in bitter public feuds, are now warming to each other as Zuckerberg seeks to influence tech policy in the incoming administration.

The Meta CEO dined at the president-elect’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida last week, talking technology and demonstrating the company’s camera-equipped sunglasses, Fox News reported.

“Mark Zuckerberg has been very clear about his desire to be a supporter of and a participant in this change that we’re seeing all around America,” Stephen Miller, a top Trump deputy, told Fox.

Zuckerberg should be in jail.

Despite humiliating dinner with Trump, Trudeau is showing leadership

I’m glad Justin Trudeau managed to get face to face with Donald Trump and make the case that Canada shouldn’t be socked with tariffs that would send our economy into a recessionary spin.

Obviously it’s better to talk directly to the Great Khan in his stately Mar-a-Lago pleasure dome than to be left on the outside peeking in. If you’re invited for dinner, of course you go, and you make the very best of it. On the face of it, it must mean something positive that Trump agreed to see the PM so quickly after dropping his tariff bombshell. Doesn’t it?

How Trump can make education great again

Linda McMahon’s nomination to head the Department of Education was a characteristic move from Donald Trump, host of The Apprentice, who ended every episode with the words “You’re fired!”. McMahon, who co-founded the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) is no stranger to the roped ring, where she dished out slaps and once kicked her husband Vince in the balls. She has little experience in education but whatever one may think of her qualifications, to put her forward was an inspired act of populist political showmanship. It proclaimed Trump’s intention to body-slam the dysfunctional, ideologically captured bureaucracies that have brought American education to its knees.

PINDER: Trudeau the weak link in dealing with Trump tariff threat

Howard Lutnick is Trump’s appointment as the next Secretary of Commerce, a cabinet role to manage economic growth and trade relationships. In a recent interview on NBC’s Squawk Box, he frankly stated “the tariffs are a bargaining chip that should not be put in place across the board.” He also revealed one of Trump’s tactics by stating that “when you’re running for office, you make broad statements so that people understand you”.

As well, recently named Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was quoted in a Financial Times interview that “my general view is that at the end of the day he [Trump] is a free trader”.

What to Expect From Trump Administration’s Mass Deportation Plans

EAGLE PASS, Texas—Incoming border czar Tom Homan has made it clear that states such as Texas are about to have an ally in the White House when it comes to securing the U.S. southern border.

Homan and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott promised a new era of cooperation between the federal government and states eager to secure the border as President-elect Donald Trump’s deportation plan takes shape. The two served early Thanksgiving meals to Texas Department of Public Safety law enforcement and Texas National Guard members last week.

Donald Trump hints at mass pardons for Jan. 6 defendants, vows to overhaul ‘Democrat-controlled DOJ’ after Biden pardons son Hunter

President-elect Donald Trump hinted at mass pardons for defendants tied to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot – and vowed to overhaul the “Democrat-controlled” Department of Justice after President Biden pardoned his son Hunter Sunday night.

“Does the Pardon given by Joe to Hunter include the J-6 Hostages, who have now been imprisoned for years? Such an abuse and miscarriage of Justice!” Trump posted on Truth Social.

WAPO Laments – A shadow Trump foreign policy haunts Biden’s final acts

While the White House attempts to lock in policy priorities with international partners, Mar-a-Lago is becoming a magnet for foreign leaders eager to win Trump’s good graces.

President-elect Donald Trump’s threat Monday to impose a 25 percent tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico — one of a barrage of shots fired daily from Mar-a-Lago since his election victory — landed like a bombshell in Ottawa.

On Friday, after days of angst and an emergency “Team Canada” meeting with all 10 provincial premiers, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau jumped on a plane and flew to Palm Beach, Florida. He spent three hours at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence and golf club, one of 11 others crowded around Trump at a table in the middle of the busy members dining room.

Here Come the Meltdowns Over Trump’s FBI Director Pick, Kash Patel

Meet the United States’ new FBI director: Kash Patel, a game-changing former lawyer, investigator, and an “America first fight” who will promote transparency, declassify information, expose deep state criminals, dismantle human trafficking cartels, and so much more.

Trump Says He Will Nominate Kash Patel to Run F.B.I.

President-elect Donald J. Trump said on Saturday that he wants to replace Christopher A. Wray, the F.B.I. director, with Kash Patel, a hard-line critic of the bureau who has called for shutting down the agency’s Washington headquarters, firing its leadership and bringing the nation’s law enforcement agencies “to heel.”

Mr. Trump’s planned nomination of Mr. Patel has echoes of his failed attempt to place another partisan firebrand, Matt Gaetz, atop the Justice Department as attorney general. It could run into hurdles in the Senate, which will be called on to confirm him, and is sure to send shock waves through the F.B.I., which Mr. Trump and his allies have come to view as part of a “deep state” conspiracy against him.

‘He’s Not Kidding’: Trump Border Czar Tom Homan Prepares for Deportation War—With Blue City Mayors

As President-elect Donald Trump prepares to fulfill his pledge to carry out the mass illegal immigrant deportations he promised, all eyes are on the man tasked with implementing that mission: incoming “border czar” Thomas Homan, a more than 30-year law enforcement veteran who led Immigration and Customs Enforcement under the first Trump administration.

Standing in Homan’s way are a handful of Democratic governors and mayors who have vowed to fight deportations of illegal immigrants in their jurisdictions.

The Local Sheriffs Gearing Up to Help Trump Carry Out Mass Deportations

FREDERICK, Md.—If President-elect Donald Trump ramps up deportations as promised, he will have a strong ally in Chuck Jenkins, the longtime Republican sheriff of Maryland’s Frederick County.

“I’m willing to support the president 100%,” said Jenkins, 68, gravel-voiced with a gray buzzcut. “I want to do more, within the law.”

That prospect is spreading fear in immigrant circles, advocates say, and drawing mixed views from residents in this growing county, which backed Democrats in the last two presidential elections. But Jenkins, once dubbed among the nation’s 10 toughest immigration sheriffs by Fox News, sees Trump’s imminent return to the White House as a mandate for a more assertive approach.

As Trump’s Mass Deportations Loom, Vast Scope of Migrant Crime Wave Comes Into Focus

The federal government’s failure to properly vet and keep track of lawless migrants leads to false claims that the illegal border-crossers are less likely to commit crimes.

In June, Victor Martinez-Hernandez was charged with the murder of a mother of five in Maryland, Rachel Morin. Police in Oklahoma tracked the accused repeat offender down with a sample of his DNA recovered from a Los Angeles home invasion in which a 9-year-old girl and her mother were assaulted. Police say he came to America illegally to escape prosecution for at least one other murder in his native El Salvador in December 2022.

Why Mexico Will Find It Tough to Heed Trump’s Calls to Tame the Cartels

President-elect Donald Trump’s plan to slap a 25% tariff on Mexico’s goods unless it stops fentanyl trafficking and illegal migration risks setting the trade partners on a collision course over an intractable challenge for both countries.

Ahead of the new trade negotiations, Mexico’s greatest weakness has been its historic inability to confront the powerful drug gangs that control about a third of the country. Mexico has had success stopping immigration over the past year, but ending drug smuggling might be an impossible ask, in part because of strong demand in the U.S.

Fentanyl is cheap to produce and easily smuggled. In some large areas of Mexico, organized crime groups dominate local and state officials. Different attempts to fight the gangs, sometimes with U.S. support, have led to violence at home without making any dents on the drug business.
