FBI treated Twitter as a ‘subsidiary,’ flagged tweets and accounts for ‘misinformation’

The FBI and other law enforcement organizations treated Twitter as a “subsidiary,” flagging numerous accounts for purportedly harmful “misinformation” since January of 2020, according to the sixth installment of the “Twitter Files” released Friday.

Independent journalist Matt Taibbi described the FBI’s relationship with Twitter as having a “master-canine quality” with “constant and pervasive” contact between the bureau and the social media giant.

“Between January 2020 and November 2022, there were over 150 emails between the FBI and former Twitter Trust and Safety chief Yoel Roth,” Taibbi wrote, referring to the executive who helped suppress The Post’s reporting on first son Hunter Biden’s extensive overseas business interests.

The Day the Media Decided Suspending Journalists is a Crisis

How dare Twitter suspend the New York Times and the Washington Post.

Conservative journalists were suspended left and right, and had their accounts shuttered for years, publications had news stories blocked, and when it all came out in the #TwitterFiles, the media defended it.

Multiple publications sneered that it wasn’t a big deal anyway and conservatives were crybabies.

But now it’s a crisis.

Bari Weiss – Our Reporting at Twitter

At dinner time on December 2 , I received a text from Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, founder of SpaceX, founder of the Boring Company, founder of Neuralink, on most days the richest man in the world (possibly history), and, as of October, the owner of Twitter.

Was I interested in looking at Twitter’s archives, he asked. And how soon could I get to Twitter HQ?

Two hours later, I was on a flight from Los Angeles to San Francisco with my wife, Free Press writer Nellie Bowles, and our three-month-old baby.

Tucker Carlson finds it awfully suspicious that former gov’t intel officials worked for Twitt

In a recent monologue, conservative television host Tucker Carlson challenged the reason behind former government intelligence officials being employed by Twitter.

Carlson began his discussion by rhetorically asking his audience, “How many spies would you hire” to work at a tech company, referring to employees with experience in high-level government positions.

CNN: Twitter Files Show ‘Complex Decisions,’ Violate Spirit Of Free Speech

Thursday’s CNN This Morning had a peculiar take on the Twitter Files and revelations into what went into the decision to block the New York Post story on Hunter Biden’s laptop. Not only was it alleged that the Twitter Files actually made Twitter look good, but it was also claimed that it was Elon Musk that was violating the spirit of free speech.

Ex-Twitter Manager Slapped With Three-Year Prison Sentence For Spying For Saudi Arabia

A former manager at Twitter, convicted of spying for Saudi Arabia, was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison on Wednesday, U.S. prosecutors said.

Ahmad Abouammo, who provided a Saudi official with user information in exchange for a $42,000 watch and a pair of $100,000 wire transfers, received 3.5 years in prison despite prosecutors originally pushing for seven years, according to Reuters. Abouammo was found guilty of spying and money laundering on behalf of the Saudi Arabian government, and using his position at Twitter to acquire information about Twitter users for the Saudi Royal Family in August.

STUDY: Twitter Files Make Up Less Than 0.5% of Coverage on CNN, MSNBC

NewsBusters has found liberal cable news networks CNN and MSNBC have almost completely ignored the first five installments of the Twitter Files, which revealed Twitter employees engaged in rampant censorship of conservatives. Since the first set of documents were published on the evening of December 2, less half of one percent of the coverage on either network has even bothered to mention the story.

‘My fault alone’: Jack Dorsey takes ‘blame’ for scandals revealed in ‘Twitter Files’

Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey has taken full responsibility for the social media platform’s many failings — admitting he “completely gave up” pushing back against powerful activists in the company.

The site’s former CEO took full “blame” in a blog giving his “take” on the “Twitter Files,” which have exposed a series of extraordinary behind-the-scenes maneuvers buckling to political pressure, starting with censoring The Post’s exclusive exposes on Hunter Biden’s laptop.

Twitter Files reveal woke staffers banned Trump but let Iranian Ayatollah call Israel ‘cancerous tumor’ and Malaysian PM say Muslims had ‘right’ to kill millions

The latest drop of Twitter files showed how the social media company banned President Trump after the January 6 riots, while dictators were allowed to remain on the platform and promote mass violence and genocide.

While Twitter executives decided Trump’s use of the phrase ‘American patriots’ could be a ‘coded incitement to further violence’ and banned him for it, they did nothing when the Iranian Ayatollah and the prime minster of Malaysia explicitly advocated slaughtering millions of lives.

The disturbing revelations came to light on Monday as journalists Bari Weiss and Matt Taibbi continue to come through a trove of Twitter’s internal files and communications that Elon Musk released as a part of his mission to return the platform to a sanctuary of free speech.

Elon Musk’s Twitter Files Dump

Elon Musk’s release of internal Twitter correspondence around the censoring of the New York Post’s blockbuster “Hunter Biden laptop” story merely confirms what most knew already — that Twitter under Jack Dorsey and Parag Agrawal was staffed with Democratic Party partisans who censored information they thought would damage their cause.

In a Tweet thread on Dec. 2, journalist Matt Taibbi exposes the smoking gun — the frantic attempts to claim without evidence that any reference to the NY Post’s story had to be banned from the platform because it might have come from “hacked materials.” This, we can see now, was never seriously believed, even inside Twitter, as the email exchanges make clear.

The ‘Twitter Files’ are the final nail in the media’s credibility

The vicious and coordinated attacks by mainstream news figures against independent journalist Matt Taibbi in recent days reinforce an essential point about the American news media: they think we are all drooling idiots. Their response to Taibbi’s release of the Twitter Files, which details the company’s calculated suppression of a major news story in the run-up to the 2020 presidential election, underscores this exceedingly low estimation of its audience.

Has CBC reported on the Twitter files at all?

McCarthy vows subpoenas for 51 intel-agents who signed letter saying Hunter laptop story was Russian collusion – Michelle Obama pressured Twitter to ban Trump

House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy said that as Speaker of the House, he would issue subpoenas for the 51 intelligence officials who signed a letter weeks before the 2020 election claiming the Hunter Biden laptop story looked like Russian disinformation.

During a Fox interview over the weekend, McCarthy – who will likely become the lower chamber’s next leader – said Republicans, under his leadership, will ‘bring the (the intelligence agents) before committee’ and ask them ‘why did they lie to the American public?’

‘Those 51 intel agents that signed a letter that said the Hunter Biden information was all wrong – was Russia collusion – many of them have a security clearance,’ he said.
