PINSKY: The tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk and the risk to Canada

Charlie Kirk, an American free speech activist and social media icon, was tragically assassinated on Wednesday while speaking on a university campus in Utah.

Kirk often argued that dialogue — even with those we profoundly disagree with — was the antidote to extremism. Agree or disagree with his politics, his call for courage and dialogue resonates with particular urgency now.

It’s been a very one sided war to date.

Canadians in North see U.S. as Arctic threat on par with Russia: survey

ICE Station Trudeau

Between Russia’s military buildup in the North and China’s growing presence in the Bering Strait near Alaska, it’s no surprise Canadians in the three territories are increasingly concerned about Arctic security. But in a striking twist, a new survey found more Northerners named the United States as the most serious threat to the Canadian Arctic, on par with Russia.

Thirty-seven per cent of respondents identified the U.S. as the top threat, compared with 35 per cent who said Russia, and 17 per cent who chose China.

‘Out of depth’ Kamala Harris knows nothing, say angry Joe Biden aides

Joe Biden’s former aides have attacked Kamala Harris saying she “knows nothing” and was “out of her depth” after she laid into the former president.

The row was triggered by the publication of an excerpt from Ms Harris’s memoir 107 Days, in which she branded Mr Biden’s second presidential run “recklessness”.

In the book, Ms Harris said she made a “colossal mistake” in not telling the then 81-year-old to abandon his re-election campaign, and that it was a choice that should not have been left to an “individual’s ego”.

Canadians made three million fewer trips to the U.S. during summer travel boycott

Canadian travellers held strong to their boycott of travel to the United States right to the end of the summer, blowing a sizable hole in the U.S. tourism sector, the latest numbers from Statistics Canada show.

In August, the number of Canadian residents returning by vehicle from the U.S. plunged 33.9 per cent year-over-year to 1.9 million, while the number of residents returning by air fell 25.4 per cent to 423,000, the agency said.

My suspicion is that while the boycott certainly accounts for the majority of the decrease in trips the fact that Canadians are realizing they’re much more poor than they knew also plays a big role.

WARMINGTON: Canadians celebrating Charlie Kirk’s assassination may be banned from U.S

It’s not as if the Anti-American Elbows Up crowd would care or anyone who voted LPC or NDP for that matter

The reaction to the murder of Charlie Kirk has been almost as brutal and disturbing as the slaying itself.

One Canadian journalist took to social media to say it was “delicious” to see Charlie Kirk shot and killed with a gun.

The Dangerous Wages of Oikophobia

The decline of patriotism displayed by Democrats after 9/11 has metastasized.

The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 were the most momentous and vicious assaults on our homeland in its history. The primary targets––the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon–– were chosen in order to inflict the maximum spectacular carnage on innocent people, and to achieve the greatest symbolic resonance of hatred against our global power.

Charlie Kirk’s assassination is latest evidence that US is suffering an epidemic of leftist violence

We are suffering through an epidemic of leftist violence.

The ruthless assassination of conservative youth leader Charlie Kirk, 31, at a crowded campus event in Utah on Wednesday is the latest manifestation of the hateful rhetoric aimed at President Trump and his MAGA movement.

It’s a sad irony that Kirk’s shockingly public murder happened the day before the trial begins of Ryan Routh, one of the alleged assassins who tried to rub out Trump during the 2024 campaign.

FBI releases photos of person of interest as rifle recovered in the search for Charlie Kirk’s killer

OREM, Utah (AP) — The sniper who assassinated Charlie Kirk is believed to have jumped off a roof and fled into a neighborhood after firing one shot and has not been identified, authorities said Thursday in disclosing they have recovered a high-powered, bolt-action rifle they believe was used in the attack and are reviewing video footage of the person they believe was responsible.

The FBI has released two photos of a person of interest in connection with the shooting as investigators appealed to the public for information. The photos show a person wearing a hat, sunglasses and a long-sleeve black shirt.

Nasa bans Chinese nationals from working on its space programmes

US space agency Nasa has blocked Chinese citizens with valid US visas from its facilities – a move that effectively bars them from working at one of the most respected space research centres.

Chinese nationals, who could only work at Nasa as contractors or students contributing to research, found out on 5 September that they had lost all access to Nasa’s systems and facilities, Bloomberg news reported, citing sources.

Nasa then confirmed this, saying Chinese nationals would be restricted from using the agency’s “facilities, materials and networks to ensure the security of our work”.

This has been self-evident for what 25 years?

‘Steep decline’ continues: Canada-U.S. travel data down again in August

New preliminary data shows that trips between Canada and the United States are down once again in August, in what Statistics Canada notes is the seventh straight month of declining international travel.

Last month, 1.8 million U.S. residents entered Canada by automobile and just shy of 590,000 did so by air, down 4.5 and 3.6 per cent, respectively, from August 2024.

Canadian travellers, meanwhile, showed a “steep decline” in trips to the United States, with U.S. automobile travel down roughly 34 per cent and air travel down more than 25 per cent from 12 months prior.

Charlie Kirk assassin picked spot that could allow him to get ‘miles and miles away’ in just minutes: retired FBI agent

Charlie Kirk’s assassin appears to have picked a rooftop from where he could make a quick escape and be “miles and miles away” within minutes, a retired FBI expert said early Thursday.

The sniper — who remains at large early Thursday — fired the single, fatal shot from the top of the Losee Center Building at Utah Valley University, some 200 yards away from where Kirk was seated in a pop-up tent speaking in front of 3,000 people, authorities have said.

Jamie Sarkonak: Charlie Kirk was reviled by the left because he was effective

If you haven’t followed Charlie Kirk’s time as a Republican influencer in the new right, you will at least recognize his face. He spent his media career — a high-profile one, though not a terribly long one at only 31 years old — making conservative arguments in an overall unreceptive media ecosystem.
