Why would-be Trump assassin Thomas Crooks remains an infuriating enigma weeks after shooting

Five weeks since the first attempted assassination of a current or former president in over 40 years, the public still has precious few answers about 20-year-old gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks.

Since his identity became known, the FBI and members of Congress have been trying to piece together a motive, scrutinizing every aspect of his life both online and off.

Even in his hometown of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, a quiet suburb of Pittsburgh, neighbors say the Crooks family was always an enigma — and continues to be.

You could ask the Deep State but I think they’re busy with Kamala.

US accuses software firm of driving rent hikes

The US has sued a leading software company that collects and sells rental data, accusing it of subverting competition between landlords and feeding the country’s housing crisis.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has claimed RealPage‘s software algorithm meant rival landlords were sharing what would otherwise be private information, allegedly allowing them to illegally co-ordinate and raise rents.

“Everybody knows the rent is too damn high and we allege this is one of the reasons why,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said at a press conference announcing the lawsuit.

U.S. wants Canada to hit military spending target ‘as rapidly as humanly possible’: Biden’s adviser

Canada and other countries that are laggards when it comes to military spending should hit the NATO-imposed target of spending two per cent of GDP “as rapidly as humanly possible,” U.S. President Joe Biden’s national security adviser told reporters on the sidelines of the Liberal cabinet retreat in Halifax on Sunday.

Asked by CBC News if he’s satisfied with Canada’s recently announced plan to hit that spending target in eight years’ time, Jake Sullivan said the Biden administration has pushed NATO countries to meet the spending threshold, and while some have complied, “there is still a set of countries that hasn’t — Canada is one of them.”

Legendary strategist James Carville on why Trump’s poll numbers are lulling Dems into a false sense of security

Legendary Democratic strategist James Carville cautioned Democrats against falling into a false sense of security as polls show Vice President Kamala Harris leading the race against former President Donald Trump.

The longtime Democratic strategist warned Democrats during Friday night’s “Real Time With Bill Maher” that while Harris is currently polling ahead of Trump, she will have to work harder to win the Electoral College.

Trump not wrong on Canada’s dangerous border

For our own safety and security, Canadians — starting with His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition — must be relentless in insisting that Ottawa give the same priority and attention to detail to national security that they deliver in abundance to anything concerning climate change or the extermination of the oil and gas industry.

It is utterly scandalous that people with terrorist links are able to enter Canada undetected and stay here.

This Is No Longer The Presidential Race You Think It Is

Now this is about the deep state.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., went to a bank of microphones in Phoenix on Friday afternoon to announce the suspension of his presidential campaign and a strategic alliance with Donald Trump. What he said and did at that press avail was quite possibly a whole lot more consequential than anything the Democrats put forth in the four days they spent coronating Kamala Harris as their nominee.

China’s Olympic Medals

China has won 40 gold medals at the 33rd Summer Olympic Games, tying with the U.S. and ranking second in total medal count (91), just 35 medals behind the Stars and Stripes team. But is China really that good at sports as it has been proclaiming after each Olympics in recent years?

The modern Summer Olympics were revived from the ancient Greek Olympics, which had been discontinued for centuries. This tradition was resurrected in 1896, when the first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens, the sacred site where ancient Greeks gathered to compete for glory.

Former U.S. ambassador to Canada gives ‘tsunami warning’ about Trump

CHICAGO – A former United States ambassador to Canada is sounding the alarm that a second Donald Trump presidency would cause chaos for Canadians as he urged Americans abroad that their votes could prove crucial in the presidential election.

Bruce Heyman, who served as ambassador from 2014 to 2017, gave Canada a “tsunami warning,” saying if Trump takes the White House, Canada is at great risk.

Canada rail shutdown threatens US supply chains

Crucial supply chains are under threat across North America after a rail labour dispute in Canada led to shutdown of freight traffic on the country’s two largest railways.

Canadian National Railway (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC), locked out nearly 9,300 workers after midnight on Thursday (04:00 GMT), after failing to clinch a late deal with the Teamsters union.

Canada sends around 75% of all the goods it exports to the US, mostly over rail. A prolonged dispute could disrupt shipments of a wide range of goods, from grains and beans to potash, coal and timber.

Woman Lost for 4 Days in Colorado Mountains Is Rescued

Gina Chase went camping with an organization that recommended participants fast and discouraged cellphones during a spiritual retreat, the authorities said.

A Canadian woman was rescued over the weekend after she got lost in the Colorado mountains for four days as part of a guided spiritual “quest,” according to a local sheriff’s department, which said that participants had been encouraged to fast and discouraged from bringing cellphones.

The woman, Gina Chase, 53, of Victoria, British Columbia, was camping near the San Miguel Mountains of Colorado with 10 others through the Animas Valley Institute, an organization based in Durango, Colo., that emphasizes the spiritual value of being alone in nature, the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post. Around 11 a.m. on Aug. 14, Ms. Chase embarked on a “solo journey” near Lone Cone Peak but was reported missing around 2 p.m. the next day after she did not return to camp, the sheriff’s office said.

RFK Jr campaign may join forces with Trump

Nicole Shanahan, independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s running mate, said she was considering suspending their campaign in order to help Donald Trump win the US election during a podcast appearance released today.

In a conversation with Tom Bilyeu, the vice-presidential candidate said she and Kennedy could stay in the race in the hopes of winning enough votes to establish a strong third party for future elections, but acknowledged this would run the risk of ushering in a Harris-Walz presidency by drawing votes from Trump. The other option, she said, is to “walk away right now and join forces with Donald Trump”.

Jamie Sarkonak: ‘Positive masculinity’ hero Tim Walz earns his title just for showing up

Toxic masculinity may have been the ultimate villain of the 2010s. It underscored minor sex-based social transgressions — remember the great “manspreading” crisis (20142017) and its relative, the “mansplaining” scare? — and was a factor in Harvey Weinstein’s sex crimes, which prompted the #MeToo movement.

Finally, we have the preferred, softer substitute: positive masculinity. It lives, according to Newsweek’s Alyce Collins, in the form of one Timothy James Walz, the Democratic vice-presidential candidate and foil to socially conservative Republican men.
