Silicon Valley Bank Closed by Regulators

Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. takes control of tech-focused lender following run on deposits

Regulators shut down Silicon Valley Bank Friday after a run on deposits doomed the tech-focused lender’s plans to raise fresh capital.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. said it has taken control of SVB via a new bank it created called the Deposit Insurance National Bank of Santa Clara. All of the bank’s deposits have been transferred to the new bank, the regulator said.

Insured depositors will have access to their funds by Monday morning, the FDIC said. Depositors with funds exceeding insurance caps will get receivership certificates for their uninsured balances.

Mexico now says Gulf Cartel’s kidnap of The Tummy Tuck Four ‘could be directly linked to drug trafficking’

Mexican law enforcement agents are investigating the possibility that members of a drug cartel kidnapped four Americans last Friday thinking that they were encroaching on their turf, according to an internal government document seen by Reuters.

DailyMail.com revealed lengthy rap sheets for the four kidnapped U.S. citizens with authorities stating ‘drug trafficking’ cannot be ‘ruled out.’

Boy am I shocked.

Pentagon accused of blocking effort to hand Russia war crimes evidence to ICC

Defence department reportedly unwilling to share intelligence over fears precedent could be set against US soldiers

The Pentagon has been accused of blocking the sharing of US intelligence with the international criminal court (ICC) about Russian war crimes in Ukraine.

The Biden White House and state department have been a proponent of cooperation with the Hague-based ICC, as a means of holding Russian forces accountable for widespread war crimes, but the defence department is firmly opposed on the grounds that the precedent could eventually be turned against US soldiers.

The Philippines, Tired of China’s Bullying, Restores Military Alliance with the U.S.

Manila apparently ran out of patience.

After a decade of suffering China’s aggressive acts against Philippine vessels, fishermen and energy exploration efforts in waters within the archipelago country’s Exclusive Economic Zone, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently welcomed an expanded US military presence.

Marcos now has responded to continued Chinese belligerence by granting US forces access to five additional military bases on Philippine territory.

America’s first non-binary Muslim lawmaker is censured and stripped of assignments by Oklahoma legislature after harboring fugitive

America’s first-ever Muslim non-binary lawmaker has been censured and stripped of their assignments for harboring a fugitive friend accused of attacking a cop during a protest over transgender rights.

Mauree Turner – who uses they/them pronouns, will be banned from committee assignments unless she issues a formal apology, including to Highway Patrol cops said to have been assaulted by her friend Ross.

During the protest, the fugitive, Austin Ross, is accused of flinging water at Rep. Bob Ed Culver, R-Tahlequah, after the passing of HB 2177, a bill banning gender affirming care for minors.

US Border Patrol reassigns agents to busy Canada frontier: report

More than two dozen Border Patrol officers have been transferred to the northern border to respond to a historic spike in the number of Mexican immigrants crossing into the United States from Canada, according to a report.

Customs and Border Protection has assigned 25 extra agents to a busy section of the Canadian frontier that borders New York, Vermont and New Hampshire, NBC News reported on Monday, citing an agency spokesperson.

Some of the reassigned agents were pulled from their previous duties on the US-Mexican border, the report said.

Top US high school collaborated with Chinese state military-affiliated institution

The top public school in the United States received hundreds of thousands of dollars from groups tied to China’s military.

Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST), part of Fairfax County Public Schools, is consistently ranked as the top high school in the nation. However, this element of its ties to Beijing has been largely unknown — until now.

Canada to my knowledge does not cultivate “top schools” though if they did it would probably be based on how many cross-dressers they could field.

The U.S. Is Not Yet Ready for the Era of ‘Great Power’ Conflict

Since 2018, the military has shifted to focus on China and Russia after decades fighting insurgencies, but it still faces challenges to produce weapons and come up with new ways of waging war

Clint Hinote returned from a deployment in Baghdad in the spring of 2018 to a new assignment and a staggering realization.

A classified Pentagon wargame simulated a Chinese push to take control of the South China Sea. The Air Force officer, charged with plotting the service’s future, learned that China’s well-stocked missile force had rained down on the bases and ports the U.S. relied on in the region, turning American combat aircraft and munitions into smoldering ruins in a matter of days.

“My response was, ‘Holy crap. We are going to lose if we fight like this,’” he recalled

Why are we so dismissive of our spies?

Jody Thomas – Trudeau Stooge

… In Australia, the senior intelligence leader is by law required to make an annual public report to the country. Neither our signals intelligence agency, CSE, nor CSIS, ever make such public accountability reports.

Canada’s intelligence community clings to secrecy and is sometimes highly economical with the truth. Jody Thomas, the prime minister’s national security adviser, delivered a deeply humiliating performance before a Commons investigative committee last week, smugly declaring, “What I know, you cannot know.”

I’m glad of the CSIS leak informing us the ChiComs own the Liberal Party.  Assuming it came from CSIS. I am not so sure it did.

The world is being reshaped on a scale not seen since WW II. Justin Trudeau, Canada’s China Class and the Liberal Party are likely considered security risks and irritants to be swept aside.

Anthony Furey: Canadians Are Taking a Second Look at Roxham Road

The Roxham Road border crossing is suddenly back in the news in a big way. And it’s causing Canadians to take a second look at the issue.

The biggest voice on this file is Quebec Premier Francois Legault, who has been vocal the past few weeks in calling on the federal government to close the makeshift crossing at the Quebec–New York border.

Sorry, the West Is Superior

If rival civilizations feel they are ‘second class,’ there’s a reason for that.

The increasingly evident de facto alliance between Russia and China makes the war in Ukraine begin to look a little more like a front in a larger clash of civilizations.

In his famous mid-1990s book of that name, Samuel Huntington briefly contemplated such a partnership: “Russia and China united would decisively tilt the Eurasian balance against the West and arouse all the concerns that existed about the Soviet-Sino relationship in the 1950s.”

2 Ukrainian pilots are in U.S. to determine fighter jet skills

Two Ukrainian pilots are in the United States for an assessment of their skills in flying fighter jets, according to three people familiar with the discussions, even as administration officials say there are no plans to send F-16s to Kyiv for now.

During the program, which is taking place at an Air National Guard base in Tuscon, Ariz., the pilots have been flying aircraft simulators so the U.S. military can evaluate their flying and mission-planning capabilities, said the people, who were granted anonymity to discuss a sensitive effort. The pilots will not fly U.S. aircraft.
