A Question for Trump: Is It Time to Take a Page from Abraham Lincoln?

It is well-known that Abraham Lincoln launched an invasion without consulting Congress as the Constitution stipulated, but what is less well-known is his instructing his police to imprison thousands of dissident Northerners, lettres de cachet flying fast and furious; suspending the writ of habeas corpus; arresting critical newspaper editors and publishers and shutting down their telegraph communications; using troops to intimidate voters; remanding dissenting “copperheads” to Fort Lafayette, an institution earmarked for political prisoners; and compelling the judiciary to adjudicate on his behalf — for the most part, the judiciary complied. As we find in Roy Basler’s The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln, Lincoln was even ready to imprison any citizen who had the temerity to remain silent and not support his war aims. After all, Lincoln had a war to fight.

‘Deliver or Die’: Inside the Drug-Boat Crews Ferrying Cocaine to the U.S.

CALI, Colombia—They see themselves as the cowboys of the drug trade, highly experienced crews that ferry narcotics on small boats across the open seas, running on a mix of bravado, skill and dreams of a massive payday.

Now, designated as terrorists by the Trump administration, they face not only the perils of a capricious sea but the new danger of getting blown out of the water by the U.S. military. The trade’s unofficial motto—“deliver or die”—has never rung so true.

Three men who have manned these drug boats, known as “go fasts,” spoke to The Wall Street Journal, describing a once little-known but essential part of the narcotics trade that is now in President Trump’s sights.

Afghan terror and Somalia fraud shows why Trump is right on migrants

You have to be careful with a country. Even a nation as vast in size and huge in population as the United States cannot be endlessly experimented upon. You cannot just leave borders open, or allow in large numbers of people with totally different value systems from your own.

That is the mistake many European countries have committed in recent years. They have opened their homes up to people from almost every part of the world where there is civil strife, war or just a lower standard of living.

The Oppressed Muslims Of Dearborn: Rightwing influencers spin anti-Muslim rage in Michigan for social media reach

Al Quds Day Dearborn

White nationalist and rightwing agitators recently descended on Dearborn, Michigan, to hold an anti-Islam rally at which they attempted to burn a Qur’an and manufacture controversy over the city’s large Arab American population. But the protest has been dismissed by local leaders as a cheap publicity stunt aimed at generating money and clicks for far-right influencers.

But there is little doubt the Michigan city has become a repeated target for the publicity-hungry far-right because it holds the US’s highest percentage of Arab American residents. Similar provocateurs have marched with a pig’s head on a pole at an Arab American fair. Meanwhile, Christian evangelists regularly attempt to convert Muslim children at parks or outside schools.

Somehow the defenders of Dearborn’s oppressed Muslims never remember this stuff!
