Should grades matter? Why this teacher is shaking up everything we know about report cards

The end of the school year usually comes with all the fear and anticipation of final marks. But that’s not the case for the students in Stacie Oliver’s English classes. They already have a pretty good sense of how they did — that’s because they graded themselves.

Valentina Virviescas-Medina proposed a 90, up from the 82 she gave herself at the midterm. With a digital portfolio of her year’s work to show and a convincing verbal demonstration of what she had learned, the Grade 12 student is graduating from A.B. Lucas Secondary School in London, Ont., with, you guessed it, a 90 in English.

But this isn’t a story about marks.

It’s a story about stupid and lazy!

Nancy Pelosi & Drunk Driver Hubby meet the Pope and receive communion in the Vatican despite her support for abortion

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi met with Pope Francis on Wednesday and received Communion during a papal Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica, witnesses said, despite her position in support of abortion rights.

Pelosi attended the morning Mass with her husband Paul – who is awaiting trial for a DUI he was arrested for in May – marking the feasts of St. Peter and St. Paul, during which Francis bestowed the woolen pallium stole on newly consecrated archbishops.

She was seated in a VIP diplomatic section and received Communion along with the rest of the congregants, according to two people who witnessed the moment.

2 suspects killed, 6 police officers injured in shootout at bank in Saanich, B.C.

Six police officers are in hospital with gunshot wounds and two suspects have been killed following an attempted bank robbery in Saanich, B.C., on Tuesday.

As of Tuesday afternoon, police continue to ask people in the area of North Dairy Road to Cedar Hill Cross Road, and between Richmond Road to Cedar Hill Road, to shelter in place as heavily armed officers search for a possible third suspect.

Multiple officers from Saanich Police, VicPD, and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) responded to the report of armed suspects at a bank in the 3600-block of Shelbourne Street around 11 a.m.

This seems odd for a Canadian bank robbery, shootouts are as rare as dead bank robbers.

So was it drugs that motivated such a suicidal commitment by the robbers or were they following a higher calling and this is linked to the Coastal gas terrorists?

Just in time for Canada Day, how convenient.

G-7 to throw out another $200 billion for third-world ‘green’ boondoggles

Amid all the partying and gladhanding and making Vladimir Putin a figure of fun, the G-7 summit in Germany managed to avoid the important topics, such as where the hell greenie Germany is going to get energy from and just what it means when it says it’s going to support Ukraine forever.

Instead, it moved into its comfort zone, which was “infrastructure” and greenie energy for the Third World, as if the Third World needed more corruption and energy shortages, as greenie Germany is experiencing. Naturally, its idea was to throw money — mostly American money — at the problem. Doddering Joe Biden was all in for this idiocy and has touted this bad idea as some kind of success story.

Rex Murphy: Is Justin Trudeau contemplating a new career in standup?

The leaders of the G7 democracies are meeting in a “fairy-tale” castle and retreat in the Bavarian Alps.

Stay in a fairy-tale castle, I mean. Joe Biden, Justin Trudeau, Boris Johnson and the rest carry the terrible burdens of an anxious time. They are the Churchills of our day.

They have more than earned some quality time together, having a few giggles, taking off the damn photo-op masks, isolated from those they constantly work so hard for, in a splendour most shall never know.

Ottawa police say they’re ready to shut down Canada Day occupation attempts

Ottawa city officials say they are prepared for a “unique” Canada Day, with plans to keep anti-government protests from turning into another occupation.

The traditional nationally broadcast shows are returning for the first time since 2019, this time from the plaza in front of the Canadian War Museum because of ongoing construction on Parliament Hill.

Ottawa police say they expect more protests and larger crowds than usual during Canada Day celebrations as groups related to the Freedom Convoy continue to plan demonstrations. Some in those groups have indicated they’d like to protest through July and August.
