Ukraine plans for women to march in high heels spark outrage

Plans by Ukraine’s defence ministry to have female soldiers march in high heels instead of army boots in a parade next month have caused angry reactions.

Irina Gerashchenko, an opposition member of parliament, said it was sexism, not equality.

Ukraine is preparing to stage a military parade on 24 August to mark 30 years of independence following the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The defence ministry say the shoes are part of regulation-dress uniform.

Massachusetts police have issued an urgent shelter-in-place warning for residents in two towns near Boston after eight heavily armed men fled into woodland during a traffic stop.

A state trooper spotted the men pulled over by the side of the I-95 between Wakefield and Reading at 1.30 on Saturday morning, and asked them for identification.

The group were dressed in tactical-style gear and were armed with both pistols and rifles. They refused to comply with orders to drop their weapons and ran into the woodland by the side of the road.

In The Washington Post, ‘Gendervague’ Former Prostitute Promotes Teaching Kids ‘Kink’

The Washington Post published an op-ed by a former prostitute who identifies as “gendervague,” in which the author encourages parents to show their children “kink culture” in the “queer community.”

Lauren Rowello argued in the Post that children are benefited by being exposed to LGBT sexual activity at public parades. Rowello uses her own kids as a backdrop for the story, highlighting how she took them and her transgender partner to a gay pride parade several years ago.

Developer of McKenzie Meadows subdivision in Caledonia cancels build amid ongoing land dispute

For nearly a year, buyers in a planned subdivision in Caledonia have been in limbo, wondering what would become of their McKenzie Road homes — until now.

Foxgate Developments says the build, now a 25-acre front line in the assertion of Indigenous land rights, has been cancelled amid an ongoing occupation by Six Nations land defenders.

“Having exhausted our short-term legal options … we regrettably are writing to declare your agreement of purchase and sale frustrated,” David Hill, president of Ballantry Homes, wrote in a June 28 letter obtained by The Spectator. “This means that your home will no longer be constructed and the agreement of purchase and sale is hereby terminated.”

Juror is fined $11,000 for causing mistrial when he googled ICE officer’s uniform patch and told fellow jurors it was a white supremacist badge

A juror has been fined more than $11,000 for googling an ICE officer’s patch during a criminal trial and sharing his findings with his fellow jurors, which resulted in a federal judge declaring a mistrial in the case.

Stephen Meile was part of a jury considering a case to decide whether a legal Nicaraguan immigrant assaulted ICE officers in 2017.

The panel were shown a photograph of the ICE officer’s uniform which had a mysterious patch attached to it, prompting the jurors to question what it signified.

RCMP are investigating what they’re deeming a suspicious fire at the St. Patrick Co-Cathedral catholic church in Yellowknife.

The fire broke out shortly after midnight Thursday. The building sustained minor damage. No one was injured.

Police: markings suggest vandalism at ten churches is linked to residential schools

CALGARY – Police say ten churches in Calgary were vandalized with red and orange paint — acts investigators believe are a response to the recent discoveries of unmarked graves at the sites of former residential schools.

Most, although not all, of the churches were Catholic, and in one case a window was smashed and paint was thrown inside the church.

Fire fighters battled a burning Tesla Model S Plaid for three hours Wednesday night in a Philadelphia suburb.

The Gladwyne Fire Department responded to a call just before 9pm ET in Haverford, Pennsylvania, according to Electrek, which first reported on the incident.

‘Due to prior training classes on Tesla Vehicle Fire emergencies, Engine 24 laid a 5 inch supply line into the scene so that we could keep a continual water stream on the fire to extinguish the fire and cool the batteries down to ensure complete extinguishment,’ the Gladwyne Volunteer Fire Company shared in a Facebook post.
