Students sue TMU, allege university defamed them by labelling Palestine support letter as antisemitic

A group of current and former Toronto Metropolitan University law students who signed a controversial letter expressing unequivocal support for Palestinians after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israeli civilians has filed a lawsuit against the university.

The statement of claim, which has not been tested in court, alleges TMU defamed the signatories by publicly condemning the letter as antisemitic and intolerant.

On Wednesday night, MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle and her 11th Hour guests cobbled the recent prosecution against former FBI Director James Comey into a larger conspiracy President Trump supposedly has against the First Amendment.

The discussion was based on an NBC News article covering a letter signed by over 40 retired state and federal judges condemning Trump for targeting his political enemies. The letter failed to mention that Comey was indicted over lying to and obstructing the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Even at 32 weeks pregnant, a woman doesn’t necessarily have free speech in Canada.

Is it worse to post a tweet with one’s opinion on Truth and Reconciliation Day or fire a pregnant staffer for posting it? This is the dilemma the Conservative Party of British Columbia is facing.

It’s like there’s a Doug Fordization of Conservatism in Canada.

Step 1 – Lie about being Conservative.
Step 2 – Get elected at minimum as Party Leader
Step 3 – Come out as a Flaming Liberal Asshat.

First Nations University president fired key whistleblower behind scathing review of her conduct

A three-month investigation into more than two dozen allegations against the president of First Nations University of Canada, commissioned by the institution’s board in 2023, concluded with a stark assessment of her conduct.

“The Investigator found that [President Jacqueline Ottmann] created a “circle of favor” around and inside her office, which attaches to the individuals whom she favors, and excludes those whom she does not favor from having influence,” said the 200-plus page report by Deloitte Legal, an affiliate of the university’s then-accounting firm Deloitte LLP.

‘African tribe’ who camped in Scottish woodland evicted

Members of a self-styled African tribe have been evicted from their camp on council-owned land in the Scottish Borders.

The three people, who call themselves the Kingdom of Kubala, have been staying in a wooded area near Jedburgh.

The tribe streamed the eviction live on TikTok on Thursday morning. It showed a man and a woman being led from the camp by uniformed officers.
