Terry Newman: She objected to land acknowledgments. Now she’s paying the price for her heresy
An elected Ontario school board councillor has been suspended by her board for expressing an opinion about land acknowledgements. It was not explained to her the exact offence she had committed, or who complained, only that the opinion she expressed apparently caused harm.
Catherine Kronas was first elected to Ancaster High Secondary School as chair in 2023 and then re-elected as a council member in 2024.

Talk about getting Jim Cramered. The Atlantic’s pompous loudmouth of a staff writer David Frum committed an unforced error by publicly showcasing how he literally knows nothing about the Trump Doctrine on military strategy or foreign policy.
Frum attempted to make it seem like Iran had President Trump’s number in a June 21 screed published at 9:00 am ET, “The mullahs of Iran join the bet that Trump always chickens out.”

The world’s largest digital camera telescope has discovered 2,000 new asteroids, including seven potentially hazardous space rocks that will pass close to Earth.
The Vera C Rubin Observatory in Chile released the first images from its 3,200 megapixel camera, which produces images so large they are impossible to see in detail with the human eye.
In the first few days of sky scanning, the telescope spotted 2,104 unknown asteroids, including a handful of “near-earth objects” (NEOs) which will pass within 30 million miles of Earth’s orbit.
A total of 145 people in France were reportedly assaulted with syringes while attending a country-wide street music festival over the weekend.

Tech leaders ready launch of Canadian social-media platform Gander to buck U.S. dominance
A new social-media platform built by Canadians, for Canadians, and operated in Canada, will publicly launch in October with support from some of the most prominent names in the Canadian innovation sector.
Titled Gander Social Inc., the app was created by five Canadian co-founders who grew frustrated with the torrent of trolls, disinformation and divisive content they experienced on other platforms, largely owned by American tech giants.
This will be a “Canadian Awful” equivalent to BlueSky.

If the world was looking for a distraction from the intensifying trade tensions under Trump 2.0, the U.S.’ direct military action in Iran certainly delivers. But this is no sideshow.
The escalation in the Middle East could have immediate and far-reaching consequences, especially for the global agri-food sector — and Canada is not immune.

A fake wedding at Disneyland Paris in France triggered a police investigation on Sunday after the theme park’s staff suspected that the “bride” in the alleged ceremony was a 9-year-old Ukrainian girl.
The bizarre incident was first reported by the Le Parisien daily. The paper said a man had hired the park’s complex — which can be used for private events outside opening hours — for a total of €130,000 ($150,000) several weeks earlier.
Hundreds of extras were brought in to play the role of guests.
