Far-right has gone quiet — but is ready for post-election violence

Far-right extremist groups have been laying the groundwork for post-election violence in America by exploiting local grievances and sowing division to swell their ranks, experts are warning.

US intelligence agencies have said domestic extremists radicalised by online conspiracy theories pose a significant threat from now until inauguration day. The Global Project Against Hate and Extremism reported increases in election-related violent rhetoric online this week, comparable with the same period in 2020.

This week, ballot boxes were set on fire in Oregon and Washington. While the motive remains unknown, it underscored the potential for political divisions to descend into violence around the election next Tuesday.

The Burning Ballot Boxes had pro-Palestinian messaging. That’s lazy reporting from the Times but they have an anti-Trump stance.

White House reporter Laura Barron-Lopez actually led with criticism from his Democratic rival Kamala Harris, not news about the rally itself.

Police arrest suspect in £300,000 cheese ‘theft’

Detectives hunting alleged fraudsters who are believed to have stolen 22 tonnes of the world’s best cheddar from a luxury cheese seller have arrested a “person of interest”.

Sophisticated con artists allegedly spent four months convincing Neal’s Yard Dairy, the London wholesaler and retailer of artisan cheeses, that they were a real French cheese-buyer for a major distributor and supermarket, before making off with £300,000 worth of cloth-bound raw milk cheddar this month.

Here’s why Pierre Poilievre is so afraid of the CBC

No wonder Pierre Poilievre wants to defund the CBC. The public broadcaster has barely shown him any deference.

Let’s start by noting that, contrary to the Conservative Leader’s claim, the CBC is not “the propaganda arm” of the Liberal government.” Overall, its reporting appears balanced. Now that doesn’t mean that the CBC treats climate denial as a legitimate point of view — rather than what it is: the rejection of well-established science.

The Star defending the CBC. Colour me shocked.

Germany: Manhunt after explosives left at Berlin station

A police search is underway on Thursday in the German capital, Berlin, after a man left a bag of explosives at a Berlin train station on Wednesday evening.

A police officer told the daily Berliner Zeitung that “it seems as if an attack has been prevented,” as an explosion caused by the contents of the bag would have had “dramatic consequences” if it occurred near a group of people.

The man ran away after he was subjected to a check by police officers.
