The Orthodox rabbi at Columbia University and Barnard College issued a statement advising Jewish students to leave campus and return home because of ongoing demonstrations by anti-Israel activists that threaten their safety.

Rabbi Elie Buechler, director of OU-LJIC at Columbia/Barnard, urged students via WhatsApp to leave campus “as soon as possible” prior to the onset of Passover. He emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that “what we are witnessing in and around campus is terrible and tragic.”

Israeli leaders criticize expected U.S. sanctions against military unit that could further strain ties

JERUSALEM – Israeli leaders on Sunday harshly criticized an expected decision by the U.S. to impose sanctions on a unit of ultra-Orthodox soldiers in the Israeli military.

The decision, expected as soon as Monday, would mark the first time the U.S. has ever imposed sanctions on a unit inside the Israeli military and further strains relations between the two allies, which have grown increasingly tense during Israel’s war in Gaza.

A transgender person has shared their experience after receiving an experimental new surgery that involves removing the entirety of their external genitals.

Adrian, 27, from Florida, is non-binary – meaning they do not conform to either male or female – and had the operation at a controversial gender clinic in Texas that has been dubbed ‘Frankenstein’s lab’.

It is one of a handful hospitals in the country that offer genital nullification surgery – a procedure which involves removing all external genitalia to create a smooth transition down from the stomach to the groin.

Feds halt deportation of B.C.-based climate activist

A B.C.-based climate activist scheduled to be deported over the weekend has had his removal stayed after a federal minister intervened in his case.

Zain Haq, 23, was scheduled to be deported to his native Pakistan on April 22, while being nearly a year into a spousal sponsorship application with his B.C.-born wife. Haq, who co-founded the group Save Old Growth, caught the attention of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) in 2022 while protesting and speaking to the press about Canada’s climate policy.

Oxford University college scraps St George’s Day event but will host Eid dinner

A University of Oxford college that traditionally hosts a St George’s Day celebration has been accused of replacing it with Eid for the second year in row.

Magdalen College had held an annual formal dinner to remember England’s patron saint, attended by dons, students and fellows.

But this year only a banquet for Eid, the Islamic festival marking the end of Ramadan, has been advertised.

Three auto theft convictions should result in three years in prison, Pierre Poilievre says

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre says repeat car thieves should not be allowed to serve their sentence “in their living room watching Netflix.”

Poilievre released a new policy today that insists the current Liberal government goes too easy on people who steal cars.

He says a Conservative government would make sure auto thieves spend at least three years in prison if they are convicted for a third time, and ban house arrest for those convicted of an indictable offence.

Boeing aims to bring flying cars to Asia by 2030

TOKYO — U.S. aircraft manufacturer Boeing plans to enter the flying car business in Asia by 2030, looking to tap demand for the fast, short-distance travel the vehicles could provide in the region’s traffic-choked cities.

Boeing Chief Technology Officer Todd Citron revealed the plans to Nikkei.

The company is developing electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) craft at subsidiary Wisk Aero. The aircraft will adopt autonomous technology, rare among eVTOL craft.

A philosophy student overheard through the wall of his room saying ‘veganism is wrong’ and ‘gender fluidity is stupid’ was threatened with expulsion by his university, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

Robert Ivinson said he was disciplined after a student next door in halls of residence at Exeter University heard the comments then complained he had been offensive and ‘transphobic’.

Mr Ivinson, who expressed the views in a phone call to a friend, was hauled before university officials and put on a ‘behavioural contract’ for the rest of his studies.
