Teacher who ‘misgendered’ pupil banned from profession

A Christian teacher has been banned from the profession for “misgendering” a pupil in a case believed to be the first of its kind in the UK.

Joshua Sutcliffe, 33, was ruled by the Teaching Regulation Authority (TRA) to have failed to treat a pupil with “dignity and respect”. He was also found to have failed to protect the pupil’s wellbeing when he did not use the preferred pronouns of a girl who identified as a boy.

Hamilton will explore plan to have residents sign on to host homeless people

The city will explore a voluntary registry for Hamilton residents — and councillors — who want to host people who are homeless.

“I’m trying to find compassionate solutions for folks,” Coun. Matt Francis said after a long discussion about encampments Wednesday at city hall. “I’m not suggesting this is going to solve the problem.”

But it could add “another tool in our tool belt. That’s as simple as that.”

Council workers to get lessons on how to turn off the lights

A council has said its staff will receive “training” after the lights in one of its buildings were left on during the night.

Cornwall Council apologised after a member of the public complained that one of its buildings was lit up “like a Christmas tree” during an energy crisis.

On Saturday, a dog walker discovered a fully illuminated Chy Trevail building in Bodmin, which accommodates more than 600 staff.

NAACP advises against visiting Florida over ‘hostile’ DeSantis polices, gov slams move as ‘stunt’

The NAACP issued a travel advisory discouraging tourists from visiting Florida to protest Gov. Ron DeSantis’ policies, which the civil rights group claim are “hostile to black Americans” — just days before he’s expected to announce his candidacy for president.

“On a seeming quest to silence African-American voices, the Governor and the State of Florida have shown that African Americans are not welcome in the State of Florida,” the stunning travel advisory released Saturday said.

The Satanic Temple: Think you know about Satanists? Maybe you don’t

This may be the world’s largest ever gathering of Satanists – and it’s about to begin at a Marriott hotel in downtown Boston.

In a candle-lit room set aside for Satanic ceremonies, a neon sign welcomes you to The Little Black Chapel. A raised altar stands at one end, a white pentagram on the floor in front of it.

The ritual being performed here is an “unbaptism”, in which participants symbolically reject religious rites performed when they were children.

Colby Cosh: The radical character of Canada’s assisted death regime

The Post’s national treasure, Tristin Hopper, filed a story earlier this week on a new Research Co. poll about Canadians’ attitudes toward legalized assisted suicide, an industry in which we are now in the vanguard of the world. Hopper’s piece emphasized surprisingly high levels of support for providing medical assistance with suicide to people whose problems might be described as primarily social.
