Federal deficit projected to soar to $92B this year: ‘Unfair to pass these burdens on,’ C.D. Howe Institute says

OTTAWA — The Carney government is poised to post a massive deficit of more than $92 billion during this fiscal year, a new report from a well-respected financial think tank projects, almost double what was forecast just a few months ago by a non-partisan arm of the government.

‘I think I hit one. Hell yeah boy!’ US aid workers filmed shooting at Gazans

Armed US contractors at one of Gaza’s new aid distribution hubs appeared to fire at Palestinians before celebrating, leaked footage has suggested.

Video seems to have shown machine gun fire in the vicinity of civilians seeking aid, with an American voice shouting: “I think you got one.”

Another voice adds: “Hell, yeah, boy!”

Not sure this proves anything. We’ll see.

Canada’s immigration system must put national security ahead of applicants: Expert

OTTAWA — Canada’s immigration framework needs to put national security ahead of the interests of applicants.

That’s among many issues experts say need to change as Canada wrestles with what they say is decades of ineffective and damaging immigration policy, as the country deals with increased global security threats from bad actors.

Copper thieves target electric car chargers

Criminal gangs are targeting electric car chargers, stripping copper from the cables and leaving drivers unable to refuel.

InstaVolt, one of Britain’s biggest charging networks, said over 700 stations had been targeted in a wave that it has linked to organised crime. Incidents have risen from 140 a year ago.

The company has been forced to develop an anti-theft electric charger in an attempt to combat the crime wave. Bosses have said the spate of outages has dented consumer confidence in charging stations, affecting electric car uptake.

Cut housing prices? It will be all we can do just to slow their increase

Across Canada, you could hear the eyes of Gen Zers rolling. The headline in The Globe said it all: “CMHC gives up on comparing housing affordability to 2004 levels.”

Where a previous headline-making report by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the federal agency whose stated purpose is to make housing affordable, had set out a series of policies aimed at returning housing costs, relative to income, to 2004 levels – by 2030 – the new report dismisses this as “no longer realistic.”

French police use knives to puncture migrant dinghies in the sea

French police have used knives to puncture migrant dinghies in the water for the first time as they gear up to implement law changes.

There were chaotic scenes on French beaches on Friday morning as officers charged into the sea with knives to slash a rigid inflatable boat, which migrants were scrambling to board.

“Get Criminal Scum Out of Our Country”: Wilders’ Tough Migration Laws Get Approval

After years of lax migration policies, the Netherlands appears to be reverting to a more restrictive, common-sense approach.

On Thursday, July 3rd, the Dutch parliament’s lower house passed a sweeping package of asylum law reforms championed by right-wing populist leader Geert Wilders.

The legislation halts new residency permits for asylum seekers indefinitely, and cuts the duration of temporary residency permits from five to three years.

BONNER: Canada desperately needs a baby bump

The 21st century is going to be overshadowed by a crisis that human beings have never faced before. I don’t mean war, pestilence, famine or climate change. Those are perennial troubles. Yes, even climate change, despite the hype, is nothing new as anyone who’s heard of the Roman Warm Period, the Mediaeval Warm Period or the Little Ice Age will know. Climate change and the others are certainly problems, but they aren’t new.

But the crisis that’s coming is new.

Trump Announces He’s Working on Mass Amnesty Plan for Illegal Aliens After Passing ‘Big Beautiful Bill’

In his first speech after the House passed his “Big Beautiful Bill,” President Trump on Thursday announced he’s working on a mass amnesty for potentially millions of illegal aliens working in farm, hotel and leisure industries which “radical right people” won’t be happy about.

Stupid move. A betrayal.

The need to acknowledge Muslim antisemitism

Toronto 2015

For much of this week, Britain has been consumed by the appalling spectacle at the Glastonbury festival when the rap duo Bob Vylan led chants by thousands of festival-goers of “Death, death to the IDF,” as well as making vicious remarks about Jews and Zionists.

Even though incitement to murder crossed a red line among politicians and commentators, many still qualified their revulsion by asserting that Israel’s behavior in the war was beyond the pale.

I took the pic above in 2015 in Toronto at the ROM. Our idle police contributed to today’s excesses.

Canada races to build icebreakers amid melting ice and geopolitical tensions

For millennia, a mass of sea ice in the high Arctic has changed with the seasons, casting off its outer layer in summer and expanding in winter as it spins between Russia, Canada and Alaska. Known as the Beaufort Gyre, this fluke of geography and oceanography was once a proving ground for ice to “mature” into thick sheets.

But no more. A rapidly changing climate has reshaped the region, reducing perennial sea ice. As ocean currents spin what is left of the gyre, chunks of ice now clog many of the channels separating the northern islands.

Canada’s coast guard has an expression for this confounding phenomenon: less ice means more ice.

Concertgoers Cheer Muslim Terrorists Killing Them

On Nov 13, 2015, Muslim terrorists attacked a concert at the Bataclan theater in Paris, opening fire on the crowd while shouting, “Allah Akbar.” The Muslim attackers took 20 hostages, killed 90 concertgoers and left hundreds wounded. A year later the theater reopened under new ownership with ‘Insallah’ or ‘If Allah Wills” by Sting to support the Muslim migrants invading Europe. One of the members of the American band that had been playing during the attack was banned from attending the commemoration because he had been accused of ‘Islamophobia’.

A few years later, there was a Bataclan concert featuring a Muslim rappers supporting Jihad. After Oct 7, the Bataclan was filled with shouts of ‘Free Palestine’ at yet another Islamic concert.

Mark Carney should add the gun buyback program to his kill list

Prime Minister Mark Carney wasted no time in axing a signature Justin Trudeau policy the moment he took on the job. It wasn’t that the carbon tax was bad policy, per se, or focused on the wrong target or poorly administered or needlessly bureaucratic. Indeed, Mr. Carney was broadly supportive of carbon pricing as a mechanism to curb greenhouse gas emissions right up until the moment he got the words “Right Honourable” added to his stationery.

The problem with the carbon tax, as we all know, was that it was deeply unpopular in Canada, so the new Prime Minister had no choice but to kill it if he wanted to keep his job.
