Law Enforcement Ignored Dire Threats Against Pennsylvania Trump Voters’ Families, Property, And Pets

“We know where you live. … In the dead of a cold winters [sic] night, this year, or next and beyond, there is no knowing what may happen. Your property, your family may be impacted, your cat may get shot. And more. … Your vote for this guy [Trump] is seen as treading on my rights. You tread on me at your peril, motherf-cker. We look forward to visiting in the future.”

That is language from the nasty, vile letter that Pennsylvania voters received through the U.S. mail in October 2024, just prior to the presidential election. What was their crime? They had Trump signs in their yards.

MPs call on Canada to bar British rap duo Bob Vylan over ‘death, death to the IDF’ chant at Glastonbury

Montreal Liberal MP Anthony Housefather is calling on the Canadian government to bar the British rap duo Bob Vylan from Canada after the group led the crowd in a chant of death to the Israeli military at the Glastonbury Festival in the United Kingdom over the weekend.

On Monday, the U.S. State Department said that it had “revoked the U.S. visas” of the band members who performed at the festival in southwest England on Saturday, ahead of several American tour dates in October and November. “Foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country,” Christopher Landau, the deputy secretary of state wrote on X.

Performative BS from an LPC member. They’ve lost the US Leg with many more dates than are scheduled for Canada. I doubt they’ll bother as it just isn’t economically viable.

The absolute genius of Florida’s ‘Alligator Alcatraz’

The news lately has been so wonderful—Iran gelded, peace deals breaking out all over, the Supreme Court issuing excellent rulings, etc.—that it’s hard to say that this or that story is my favorite. But today, my favorite is absolutely the fact that an illegal alien detention center, nicknamed “Alligator Alcatraz,” is opening in Florida. The new center can hold as many as 5,000 people, but the best part is the location: It’s in the middle of the Everglades, where Florida’s wildlife will provide the bulk of the security. The story works at so many levels, it’s almost hard to grasp it all

You can get a sense of how wonderful the detention center will be by reading the New York Times’s coverage …

The West Still Doesn’t Get Islam

We must be careful not to succumb to magical thinking.

The spectacular destruction of Iran’s nuclear weapons infrastructure by Israel and the U.S. is a long-neglected restoration of America’s deterrent power. Yet the subsequent cease-fire President Trump imposed on Israel bespeaks again the West’s long failure to understand the nature of traditional orthodox Islam–– particularly its sanctified violence in fulfillment of Allah’s command to wage religious war “Until,” as the Islamic Republic’s godfather, the Ayatollah Khomeini, announced, “the cry ‘There is no god but Allah’ resounds over the whole world.”

Virtually all Canadian politicians have succumbed to magical thinking regarding Islam.

Gdalit Neuman: Insidious anti-Israel propaganda has corrupted our universities

As a lifelong student and educator, I’ve been in academia and the arts for the last quarter-century. I was a witness to the first Israeli Apartheid Weeks at York University in the early 2000s. I’ve followed, and fought, the anti-Israel obsession of CUPE 3903 (York University’s contract faculty union), including introducing a motion to stop them from manipulating their platform to promote non-labour issues on campus. It didn’t take.

Trump acts, our Pols allow messes like this to fester.

Forget ‘Go Woke, Go Broke’ — Jaguar Went Stupid Instead

Pity poor Jaguar. The British-based luxury and performance carmaker has had a rough go of it this century, but nothing could prepare anyone for the most bone-headed move in corporate history — and I don’t mean Jaguar’s woke “Reimagine” ad from late last year.

Let me bring you up to speed.

They were on their death bed when they came out with this…

German ‘Blood Money’ Mitigation Corrupts Criminal Justice

Acceptance of Sharia-style dispute resolution as a partial punishment sets a dangerous precedent.

When a Berlin court reduced the manslaughter sentence of a Somali man because he had paid ‘blood money’ to his victim’s family, the story passed largely under the radar of the media. Yet it speaks to a dangerous development.

Western Europeans are growing increasingly alert to the threat of ‘two-tier justice’ and ‘two-tier policing,’ where ethnicity or political opinions (or both) serve as the basis for differential treatment within criminal law. This observation could be applied to all levels of decision-making, ranging from police deployments and arrests to bail conditions and sentencing.

Howard Anglin: Lament for a Lament

This year marks the 60th anniversary of Canadian philosopher George Grant’s Lament for a Nation: The Defeat of Canadian Nationalism, a seminal work that reshaped Canadian political discourse. Published in 1965, Grant’s critique of American cultural dominance and technological modernity challenged Canadians to reconsider their national sovereignty and identity. To mark the occasion, this summer, The Hub will feature a series of essays from big thinkers exploring the book’s enduring legacy and how its insights remain vital to understanding Canada and its relationship with the United States today.

Mystery surrounds the Jeffrey Epstein files after Bondi claims ‘tens of thousands’ of videos

WASHINGTON (AP) — It was a surprising statement from Attorney General Pam Bondi as the Trump administration promises to release more files from its sex trafficking investigation of Jeffrey Epstein: The FBI, she said, was reviewing “tens of thousands of videos” of the wealthy financier “with children or child porn.”

The comment, made to reporters at the White House days after a similar remark to a stranger with a hidden camera, raised the stakes for President Donald Trump’s administration to prove it has in its possession previously unseen compelling evidence. That task is all the more pressing after an earlier document dump that Bondi hyped angered elements of Trump’s base by failing to deliver new bombshells and as administration officials who had promised to unlock supposed secrets of the so-called government “deep state” struggle to fulfill that pledge.

Report forecasts ‘worst cuts to public service in modern history’ to meet Carney’s campaign pledge

Prime Minister Mark Carney’s election promise to cut $13-billion from the federal budget by 2028-29 could result in the worst spending cuts in modern history that would “inevitably diminish the quality of the public service,” a new report from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives warns.

“This isn’t about attrition, or being more efficient,” David Macdonald, senior economist with the CCPA and the author of the report, said in an interview with The Hill Times. “These are deep cuts to staffing, deep cuts to services that will absolutely be noticed by regular Canadians.”

I bet he’s forgot all about it.

Huh?

The digital services tax was bad policy, but killing it now makes us look terribly weak

Maybe Prime Minister Mark Carney’s elbows were getting tired. He kept them up the entire campaign, and well, that was enough to get the job done (the job, notably, being winning the election – not standing up to U.S. President Donald Trump). And now that the election is over, Mr. Carney has allowed himself some moments of rest.
