Trump-Carney G7 meeting has not defused trade fears

Against the imposing backdrop of the Canadian Rockies, the leaders of the G7 are meeting in Kananaskis, Alberta to tackle a growing array of world problems: brutal conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, climate change, and the rise of AI. But perhaps the greatest challenge, with the most immediate impact on the global economy, is right there in the room with them: US President Donald Trump vows to continue his trade war against the same allied economies represented at the summit, as his counterparts seek ways to respond to his grievances and cut a deal.

My Job as a Journalist Is Going to a Bot

But it’s not all dystopia. The most competent among us will still have jobs, and AI will force us to excel.

It should have been obvious when college students started using ChatGPT to cheat on academic papers that the bots were coming for our bylines — and yet, I think, journalists thought they might be spared. After all, any bot could mimic a badly written college essay, but what journalists do? That requires finesse, skill, and critical thought.

Rioting Mainly for Fun and Profit

The summer of 2025 has not yet officially begun, but it already looks like another long, hot one. Los Angeles has faced days of anti-ICE protests and rioting, which have spread to dozens of other cities, provoking clashes with local, state, and federal law enforcement. The burning cars and mask-clad demonstrators are disturbingly reminiscent of the riots for “racial justice” in the summer of 2020 and for “Palestine” in 2024. The cause changes; the personnel and methods remain the same.

Oops – AI generated video shows Nazi soldier celebrating the liberation of Paris

President Macron’s government has been forced to withdraw an artificial intelligence-generated video celebrating the French Resistance after historians were outraged by errors including a German soldier celebrating the Allied liberation of Paris.

The government had published the video on its official Instagram and TikTok accounts in order to teach young people about the Resistance. However, the 27-second clip showed a soldier wearing a German helmet in a crowd of Parisians celebrating the end of Nazi occupation in 1944. Elsewhere in the crowd someone waved the flag of Japan, Germany’s wartime ally.

Ottawa told Trump that visa crackdown led to fewer Indians, Bangladeshis illegally crossing the border

Illegal aliens cross into US from Canada

Ottawa flagged to the incoming Trump administration that it had stopped more than 2,000 Indians and Bangladeshis from boarding flights to Canada, resulting in a drop in illegal border crossings to the U.S., internal government briefing documents show.

In an attempt to reassure President Donald Trump and his border czar, Tom Homan, that Canada is serious about clamping down on illegal crossings, Ottawa lauded investigations into visa fraud that targeted Indians and Bangladeshis.

How about just banning travel from those countries?

Israel Just Ended China’s Great Power Status in the Middle East

Israeli air and drone strikes during the early hours of June 13th crippled Iran — and severely set back Tehran’s regional ambitions. The Israel Defense Forces hit nuclear weapons development facilities and ballistic missile sites, and killed senior military officers, including Major General Mohammad Bagheri, the armed forces chief of staff, and Major General Hossein Salami, the commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Iranian media announced the death of Ali Shamkhani, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s top adviser.

Somehow, Leftist Anti-Trump Protesters Cannot Be Identified as Leftist

On some days, you could call Associated Press just Associated Press Release. On Friday, they prepared everyone for the leftist protests coming on Saturday with a pseudo-explainer headlined “What to know about ‘No Kings’ protests against Trump’s policies.”

Nowhere in this 17-paragraph article is a single ideological label — liberal, leftist, progressive, socialist, not even “Democrat.” They’re just “opponents.” They certainly weren’t “extremists,” even though the PBS News website illustrated AP with a woman holding a sign that said “The Trump Fascist Regime MUST GO NOW!” That’s not how democracy works.
