LILLEY: Mark Carney offers words – Pierre Poilievre’s words – but we need action

Listening to Prime Minister Mark Carney lay out his new plan to start building Canada on Friday, one thing became clear – Pierre Poilievre won the argument even if Carney won the election.

Anyone who has listened to Poilievre over the last several years would instantly recognize many of the proposals that Carney has put forward.

Don Lemon and Kathy Griffin Go Full Election Denier

In June 2023, recently fired CNN host Don Lemon claimed, “I don’t believe in platforming liars and bigots, insurrectionists and election deniers, and putting them on the same footing as people who are telling the truth.” If Lemon really believes that, he should deplatform himself because on Tuesday’s episode of The Don Lemon Show podcast, he and actress Kathy Griffin went all in on 2024 stolen election conspiracy theories.

‘We’re people too’: Canada’s homeless population is aging, changing how shelters run

VANCOUVER — Seventy-one-year-old Roger Oake sat on a bench outside the Union Gospel Mission shelter in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside after breakfast.

He had been sleeping at the shelter for about a month “this time” and said that after several years of homelessness, walking “the beat” during the day when the shelter isn’t open has become harder as he gets older.

“I really don’t know where to even begin. There’s so many things that could or should change, but I really don’t know,” he said on Wednesday.

TDSB blocks some trips, film screenings related to Israel-Palestine as parents accuse board of double standard

The Toronto District School Board will not allow any school trips to an exhibit on the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks on Israel or screenings of an Oscar-winning documentary about the Israeli-occupied West Bank as a school has come under fire for an alleged double standard on what activities it approves by parents and community members.

The decision comes as more than 230 frustrated parents and community members issued an open letter Monday to their local trustee over the blocking of a student-organized screening of “No Other Land,” a documentary by Israeli and Palestinian filmmakers on the destruction of a Palestinian community in the occupied West Bank.

U.S. ambassador says Canadians facing device searches, detainment ‘not a pattern’

OTTAWA – The American ambassador to Canada is pushing back on Ottawa’s travel advice, saying his country doesn’t search phones at the border and arguing some Americans travelling here are having a tough time.

“We welcome Canadians to come in and invest, to spend their hard-earned Canadian dollars at U.S. businesses,” U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra told The Canadian Press in an interview Friday.

“If a Canadian has had a disappointing experience coming into the United States, I’m not denying that it happened, but I’m saying it’s an isolated event and it is not a pattern.”

Manitoba wildfire evacuees transported to Niagara Falls, a city already teeming with shelter-seeking foreigners

… The mayor of Niagara Falls, Jim Diodati, said his city is proud to open its doors to other Canadians in their time of need. But he also said he’s frustrated no one from the federal government told him such an unprecedented influx of evacuees would arrive at the beginning of peak tourist season.

Niagara Falls, with its large stock of hotel rooms, is already hosting around 1,500 refugee claimants – who rely on social services, soup kitchens, food banks and local charities – under a temporary hotel housing system designed by Ottawa at a cost of $208 a day per person. There’s little economic benefit except for hotel owners in a town that has been built around tourism, he said.

UK gov’t anti-radicalisation programme labels concern over immigration “Terrorist Ideology”

Believing the West is under threat from mass migration has been classed as a “terrorist ideology” that could merit intervention from the government’s anti-radicalisation programme.

An online training course hosted on the government’s website for Prevent lists “cultural nationalism” as a belief that could lead to an individual being referred to the programme, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Staff taking the course were told that this encompasses a conviction that “western culture is under threat from mass migration and a lack of integration by certain ethnic and cultural groups”.

It’s called criminalizing dissent and the Liberal Party has engaged in it for the last decade. Got that you Islamophobes!

Several Trump administration officials fired back at Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass Friday after she pledged to oppose federal efforts to nab illegal immigrants — as cops in her city had to use flash bangs to disperse the violent mob of protesters who descended on the arrest sites.

“We will not stand for this,” Bass said in a statement released after federal immigration authorities arrested 44 people in raids across Los Angeles.
