Terry Newman: Nova festival exhibit shows survivors still paying dearly for October 7

On Tuesday, I visited the Nova Music Festival Exhibition — a travelling installation dedicated to the memory of the brutal massacre of 411 Nova music festival attendees and hostage taking of 43 others by Hamas terrorists in Israel on October 7, 2023 — an event the organizers point out is the largest massacre in music history. The exhibit speaks to the remarkable resilience of surviving festival-goers and their desire to heal their community which they refer to as the Nova Tribe. What’s unfortunate, is that doing so requires such a heavy and costly security detail.

Europe’s Illegal Land-Grab: Part III

The international community continues to conspire against the reality of Israel’s existence by testing the limits of its sovereignty and threatening the Jewish right to self-determination and self-defense. Palestinian-Arab society, among the most antisemitic in the world (long before Jewish communities in the West Bank were part of the picture), in which Palestinian Authority government-controlled television, media, textbooks and mosques encourage violence against Jews, praise Adolf Hitler, characterize Jews as “apes and pigs,” and deny the Holocaust, use Jewish “settlements” as a smokescreen to distract from their real agenda based on a single belief held for centuries: Jews do not belong.

CHARLEBOIS: Why tipping in Canada needs a rethink

Tipping fatigue is real — and it’s spreading. What was once a gesture of appreciation has become an increasingly opaque and frustrating part of dining out.

In our cashless, digital economy, Canadians are now routinely nudged — or guilted — into tipping more, often through emotionally manipulative interfaces. Sad emojis for selecting a 15% tip? Prompts for 20% on a $6 latte? This phenomenon, known as tip creeping, has become a serious irritant for consumers.

I’ll be honest dining out or ordering in are things of the past for me unless I trust an establishment from long experience.

The risk of food tampering is yet another feature of mass immigration.

Lib Journalists Delight in New Pope As Possible Anti-Trump Activist

While Americans across the political spectrum celebrated the elevation of an American Cardinal, Robert Prevost to become Pope Leo XIV, liberal journalists took special delight in evidence that the new Pope — just like his predecessor — seems to disagree with the Trump administration on issues like immigration.

Yet Pope Leo’s obvious opposition to same-sex marriage, abortion, and other positions embraced by American liberals received a lot less attention from these same programs.

Thousands Gather for March for Life Rally to Protest Abortion, Euthanasia

OTTAWA—Thousands of people gathered on Parliament Hill for the 28th annual March for Life rally on May 8, calling for an end to the practices of abortion, euthanasia, and in vitro fertilization (IVF).

“We didn’t come here to jostle for power. We came to raise our voices for those who have none,” Campaign Life Coalition (CLC) President Jeff Gunnarson said during a speech prior to the march.

Canada’s housing market is ‘cracking’ under Trump’s trade war: report

Canada’s housing market is “cracking” under the weight of U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade war, with housing resales down in markets across the country, a new report said.

The Royal Bank of Canada report looked at the data from the MLS Home Price Index, which is essentially the median price of a house in a market.

The sharpest pullback in people getting into the housing markets has been in southern Ontario and British Columbia, RBC economist Robert Hogue said.

Not to worry they’ll just open the mass immigration floodgates wider to juice the housing shortage.

FBI Director Says Release of Epstein Files Coming ‘In the Near Future’

U.S. authorities will soon release files on the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, FBI Director Kash Patel said on May 8 in testimony to Congress.

“In the near future,” Patel told Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) during a hearing in Washington after being asked when he thinks the FBI will finish processing the materials and release them.

“Before I die?” Kennedy quipped.

WARMINGTON: RCMP land acknowledgement comes before news on missing Nova Scotia kids

The missing kids can wait – the land and cultural acknowledgements were the RCMP’s priority.

Most agree, the most important thing to the Nova Scotia RCMP should have been the search and whereabouts of six-year-old Lily Sullivan and her four-year-old brother Jack Sullivan.

I am so tired of the constant, deliberate stream of insults by our “betters”.

Mishandling of abuse allegations casts shadow over Pope Leo XIV

Pope Leo XIV has been accused of mishandling allegations of child sex abuse.

The accusations refer to allegations before Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost’s election as the 267th leader of the Catholic Church.

Cardinal Prevost is said to have failed to properly investigate multiple claims made against Catholic priests in Peru and, according to reports in the US, gave refuge to an accused paedophile in a monastery without informing a nearby school in Chicago.

Is the promise of military icebreakers political theatre or sensible policy?

A former top naval commander and several defence experts have been left scratching their heads following the governing Liberals and Opposition Conservatives’ recent embrace of the notion of giving the Royal Canadian Navy heavy, armed icebreakers to defend the Arctic.

They question the military sensibility of building — possibly at a cost of billions of dollars — one, two or even three 10,000-tonne or more polar-class icebreakers with guns and missiles, vessels with possibly limited usefulness that would be vulnerable to both air and submarine attack.

Theatrics mixed with another LPC crony capitalist slush fund.

The Liberals torched their own agenda just to cling to power

To me, the most surreal moment came during Mark Carney’s speech on the night he won the Liberal leadership. Raucous cheers ensued when he declared the abolition of the consumer carbon tax and the retreat from the increase in capital gains inclusion rates. If you knew nothing about Canadian politics, you’d think this jubilation was in response to the assertion of long-cherished Liberal policies and principles.

But, of course, it was nothing of the sort.

JD Vance reacts to the election of the first American Pope Robert Prevost after scathing anti-Trump posts resurface

Vice President JD Vance on Thursday reacted to the news of the newly elected Pope Robert Prevost, who took the name Leo XIV.

Congratulations to Leo XIV, the first American Pope, on his election!’ the vice president wrote on X. ‘I’m sure millions of American Catholics and other Christians will pray for his successful work leading the Church. May God bless him!’

Vance converted to the Catholic faith in 2019 and was one of the last public officials to meet with Pope Francis before he died.
