Ottawa looking for ways to mend tears in Canada’s social fabric, document shows

OTTAWA — Senior federal officials have been looking quietly for ways to bring together Canadians who don’t see eye to eye on the economy, immigration and social issues.

With a general election looming, officials prepared to meet last November to brainstorm solutions to the problem of social fragmentation, according to an internal presentation drafted by the Department of Canadian Heritage.

The presentation called on session participants to come up with ideas to make Canadian society more cohesive by reversing the trend toward polarization, building trust in government agencies and fighting the swelling tide of misinformation and disinformation.

Is it the end of the line for ‘sexy’ German model railway figurines?

Model railway enthusiasts such as Sir Rod Stewart will tell you that when it comes to creating the perfect mise-en-scène, everything matters. From the colour of the peeling paint of a clock tower to the gait of the rosy-cheeked villager waving at a loco as it whizzes past.

Yet in their pursuit for art to imitate life in all possible ways, it appears German model-makers have gone a little too far.

DUR: Surely it cannot be that babies born alive after an abortion, are left to die?

Richard Dur is Executive Director of Prolife Alberta, an organization dedicated to advancing pro-life public policy in Alberta

Something is happening here in Alberta that most people would never believe could be true. But it is.

According to the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) — the federal agency responsible for compiling and reporting standardized health data across Canada — Alberta reported a total of 133 late-term abortions in the 2023-2024 year.

Trump trans military ban given green light by Supreme Court

Donald Trump can enforce a ban on transgender people serving in the military, the Supreme Court has ruled.

The high court on Tuesday approved an emergency petition from the administration to stop an injunction that blocked the ban from taking effect while a challenge to the order plays out in the courts.

It means the US can begin implementing the executive order signed by the president in January, which discharges service members who identify as transgender.

Why western Canada should join the US

Here in the west, many don’t want a trade war with the United States. They want in.

I was born in Saskatchewan and have no intention of returning. It’s the Siberia of Canada, an area bigger than France – where I now live – with the population of Buffalo, New York. It’s sucked dry by Ottawa. Elon Musk was here, and left. And it has winter temperatures of -40 degrees.

Alberta has slightly more going for it: skiing, bears. But Albertans aren’t gruntled, either. The last time I was in Calgary I had lunch at the elite Ranchmen’s Club and the chatter was seditious. The talk was of Wexit – the separation of western Canada from the bloodsucking east.

My brother, his son and wife have set in motion a plan to relocate to Alberta.

Trump appeasing Putin with pressure on Ukraine says senile Biden

Biden is in charge of tapioca

Joe Biden has told the BBC that pressure from the Trump administration on Ukraine to give up territory to Russia is “modern-day appeasement” in an exclusive interview, his first since leaving the White House.

Speaking in Delaware on Monday, he said Russian President Vladimir Putin believed Ukraine was part of Russia and “anybody that thinks he’s going to stop” if some territory is conceded as part of a peace deal “is just foolish”.

Biden, who spoke as Allied nations mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day this week, said he was concerned about US-Europe relations breaking down under President Donald Trump, which he said “would change the modern history of the world”.

I wonder how much the 1st Family of Sleaze got paid for this?

Joe Biden on Trump: ‘What president ever talks like that? That’s not who we are’

In an exclusive and remarkably candid interview – the first since he left office – Joe Biden discusses what he really thinks of his successor’s first 100 days, plus his fears for the future if the Atlantic Alliance collapses.

Biden’s attempt to rewrite history is fooling no one

In his first interview since leaving the White House, Joe Biden accused President Trump of appeasing Russia over Ukraine. Well, Biden certainly knows all about appeasement. It was the hallmark of his presidency and accounts for much of the instability in Europe and the Middle East today.

Before Putin invaded, Biden sent the worst possible signal, seeming to suggest that a “minor incursion” might not be too big a deal. Then when the tanks rolled in he offered to evacuate the leader of the embattled country to safety. That would have been like Roosevelt flying Churchill out of Britain in 1940.

Young Canadians Voted Against Spending Orgy, But Their Insulated Parents Won

The most memorable meme of the recent Canadian election campaign emerged from the line outside an Ontario microbrewery, where an older Liberal Party supporter named Matt Janes flashed two middle fingers to protesters agitating against Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The obscenity went viral — with Janes becoming infamous as the Brantford Boomer — not just for its crass vulgarity, but for exposing the deep generational divide in Canada.

Names of media outlets that received millions in government-mandated funding released only days after election

Just two days following the federal election, the Canadian Journalism Collective (CJC), which oversees the distribution of government-mandated media funding from Google, released a list of outlets that received millions of dollars.

The decision to wait until after the election has raised concerns about transparency, given that the funds were distributed to media outlets during a campaign where recipient media organizations had a major financial stake in the election due to a reliance on subsidies distributed or mandated by the Liberal government.

This is Banana Republic stuff.

Canadian Journalism Collective Issues First Public Disclosure of Funding Recipients

The Canadian Journalism Collective-Collectif Canadien de Journalisme (CJC-CCJ), the independent administrator of funds under the Online News Act, is pleased to issue its first public disclosure of fund recipients today, reaffirming its commitment to transparency.

Today’s disclosure includes 108 news businesses that have received funding up until April 23, 2025, totalling $22,193,608.09, as part of CJC-CCJ’s mandate to support a vibrant, innovative and independent news ecosystem for all Canadians.

Pakistan decries ‘act of war’ as it retaliates against India missile attack … Brampton Hanuman escalates response

Hanuman escalates Indian GTA response

At least 26 people, including several children, have been killed and 46 injured after India launched attacks on what it claimed were nine sites of “terrorist infrastructure” inside Pakistan, in a sharp escalation of hostilities between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

Pakistan declared the strikes to be an “act of war” and claimed it had shot down five Indian air force jets and a drone. “Pakistan gives a befitting reply to India,” said the Pakistan government in a statement.

India had accused Pakistan of involvement in an attack targeting Hindu tourists in Indian Kashmir last month that killed 26 people. “We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable,” said the Indian defence ministry.

A war between India and Pakistan could soon spill onto British streets

“India and Pakistan have clever generals, diplomats and politicians who will be able to call any conflict quits. On Britain’s streets, there are fewer restraints available. We had race riots involving Muslims and Hindus in Britain in recent years. They’re always in the offing, always ready to break out.”

Michael Higgins: Carney and Trump — friends without benefits

All of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s big talk about standing up to Donald Trump was exposed Tuesday as a bombastic sham.

At a meeting in the White House with the president, Carney smiled happily when Trump talked about winning the election for him. When the topic of Canada becoming the 51st state was raised, Carney declared that would never happen (would any prime minister of Canada have said any less?)

But when the president talked about shutting down the Canadian car industry and refusing to buy our steel and aluminum, the prime minister was silent. No push back. No standing up for Canadian interests.

Gay railway station volunteer banned over gender-critical views

Big Gay Choo Choo Train

A gay volunteer was banned from a railway group after expressing his gender-critical views on email and social media.

Matthew Toomer, 48, was thrown out of West Midlands Railway’s “Adopt a Station” scheme after he privately contacted company bosses to express concern about its “Progress Pride” train.

WMR rebranded one of its trains last summer with a “rainbow diamond motif” that bares similarities to the Progress Pride flag, which features a yellow diamond. It was also named “Hurst Street” after the Birmingham road at the centre of the city’s Gay Village.
