Colby Cosh: Craving stability, Canadians elected a perilously unstable government

I think we have to admit from time to time that Westminster-style parliamentary democracy can have a schizoid quality. Canadians voted in a general election last night amidst an atmosphere of looming dread and economic panic. We were obviously desperate for safety and stability: voters of the left-wing luxury-beliefs parties turned against their leaders, and toward Mark Carney, with the savagery and single-mindedness of Cossacks having a pogrom. (Sympathy for federal New Democrats isn’t a natural impulse for me, but hoo boy. Some of those riding totals, man.)

Trump Didn’t Have to Humiliate ’60 Minutes’ Like This, but He Did It Anyway

President Donald Trump slammed CBS, Paramount, and the television show “60 Minutes” in a long post on Truth Social.

The president on Wednesday said his lawsuit against the three entities “is a true WINNER” and claimed they “cheated and defrauded the American People at levels never seen before in the Political Arena.”

Trump’s De Facto Election Interference Ensured the Left’s Victory in Canada

Did Trump actually want the globalist candidate to win?

Canada’s Liberal Party, which appeared headed for certain defeat earlier this year, trounced the opposition in Monday’s elections.

This story’s exclamation point, if not the buried lede, involves Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre. He went from the man who would be prime minister to the unemployment line in a matter of months.

It’s what he wanted …

Forget the conclave – cardinals are already negotiating in Rome’s pizza parlours

One is partial to grilled calamari, another cannot resist spaghetti with seafood and a third confesses to a weakness for gelato.

As cardinals prepare to enter the Sistine Chapel in a few days to elect a new pope, they are engaged in intense discussions over plates of carbonara and bottles of wine in the Borgo, the village-like quarter of cobbled lanes, tiny piazzas and ornate fountains that lies just a few yards from the walls of the Vatican City State.

Think of them as “gnocchi negotiations”; perhaps “tagliatelle talks”.

Stellantis to move some auto production to avoid U.S. tariffs

Automaker Stellantis is set to shift some vehicle production and revamp its parts supply lines to avoid paying tariffs in the United States.

The maker of Jeep, Chrysler, Fiat and other brands plans to move some pick-up truck production to Michigan from Mexico, and is talking with parts suppliers about transferring output to U.S. facilities to boost the American content in its vehicles and dodge the levies, said Doug Ostermann, chief financial officer of the Netherlands-based automaker.

We sorta dodged a bullet this go round.

Medical migration is crippling France’s healthcare system

Doctors are sounding the alarm. Across France patients are unable to get appointments and wait times in hospital emergency departments have been known to stretch to more than two days. In Nantes, such was the backlog that four people died in emergency rooms over just a three-week period while waiting to be admitted.

This is a system stretched far beyond capacity. France’s hospitals are buckling, not because of a pandemic or a natural disaster, but some say because the country offers free, lifelong medical care, and often residency, to anyone from abroad with a serious illness.

Bye Bye Canada

Meet Trudeau 2.0.

The Conservatives were defeated in Canada’s federal election on Monday night – after being significantly ahead in the polls just a few months ago – and Liberal leader Mark Carney has managed to cling to power.

Canada just hit its own Great Reset – Klaus Schwab-style. And it’s far from the great win for the country that the Liberal voters of Canada may think it is – unless, of course, they voted for their own country’s destruction, which we know is a desire rooted in the hearts of many leftists residing in any Western capitalist nation.

‘Stupid Intelligence’ Is Threatening Trump’s Nuclear Negotiations with Iran

With the Trump administration seemingly intent on negotiating a new nuclear deal with Iran, it is vital that the White House first makes a realistic assessment of the current state of Iran’s nuclear programme, which most Western intelligence experts believe is aimed at producing nuclear weapons.

After US and Iranian officials met for a third round of talks in the Gulf state of Oman at the weekend, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi openly said that Iran remained extremely cautious about the success of the negotiations to resolve a decades-long standoff.

Carney wins minority, not the ‘strong mandate’ he sought to deal with Trump for trade talks

OTTAWA — U.S. President Donald Trump, the elephant in the room of the 2025 Canadian election, agreed to meet Prime Minister Mark Carney in the days ahead after calling to congratulate the Canadian leader who squeaked through with a minority win, not the “strong mandate” Carney sought for their looming trade negotiation.

The congratulatory call from Trump came around midday, as Carney was still uncertain whether his election victory would tip into a majority win with a handful of seats teetering between Liberals and opposition candidates.

Chuck Todd Claims Media ‘Are Not Elites at All,’ Bashes Press Criticism as ‘Biased’

Along with his viral comments on Chris Cillizza’s podcast defending the liberal media’s cover-up of Joe Biden’s cognitive decline, former Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd used the Monday episode of his own podcast to claim “most people in the press are not elites at all” and deride press criticism as “insult[ing]” and “biased” in and of itself that should be dismissed.

Winning: China Caves to Trump on Tariffs Again

In a stunning reversal that validates President Donald Trump’s hardline stance, China caved on Tuesday and lifted its punitive 125% tariff on American ethane imports.

The communist regime had desperately slapped this tariff on U.S. ethane earlier this month in a failed attempt to counter Trump’s brilliant Liberation Day tariff offensive. Obviously, it couldn’t sustain the tariff — China depends on American ethane for its survival, gobbling up about half of our total ethane exports annually, according to federal energy data.
