Paris cafés caught cheating tourists with cheap wine

Cafés and bistros in Paris are cheating customers by replacing quality wine with lower-cost alternatives when they serve by the glass, and tourists in particular are on the losing end of the swaps.

Few customers notice the difference when a premium chablis ordered from the wine menu and selling at about €9 a glass is swapped for a sauvignon costing about €5, an investigation by Le Parisien newspaper has found.

CBC reports Poilievre loses his longtime Ottawa-area seat

Poilievre projected to lose his longtime Ottawa-area seat

Not sure what the future holds for Poilievre.

He was blindsided by Trump’s asinine behavior and I say that as a Trump fan.

I did not vote PPC this election as I felt it necessary to help prevent PM Carpetbagger from retaining office.

The absence of a PPC candidate in my riding made that sacrifice a little easier.

My riding remained Liberal at any rate.

The CPC made impressive gains and I suspect any coalition between the fear-mongering Liberals and Bloc will be short lived.

We live in hope.

Trump demands permanent ceasefire

Donald Trump has demanded a permanent ceasefire in Ukraine after Vladimir Putin announced a three-day pause in fighting to begin in May.

Mr Trump, who is pushing for a peace deal to be agreed this week, wants to see a “permanent ceasefire” and is growing “increasingly frustrated” with both Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, said Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary.

Asked about Mr Trump’s meeting with Mr Zelensky on the sidelines of the Pope’s funeral this weekend, she said: “He is increasingly frustrated with the leaders of both countries.

Chicago: security truck drops money bags worth $300,000 on its rounds

A security truck in Chicago accidentally dropped several bags of cash on its rounds that resulted in scores of passersby making off with $300,000 as they scrambled to leave with the money lying on the street.

In a police report last week, the incident was described as beginning when the back door of the truck – operated by Brinks Home Security – “opened by unknown means” as it drove down South Austin Boulevard in the city.

Northwood Recovery opened its first Ottawa location in Hintonburg last year, but quietly moved it to Chinatown this March.

Mark Carney to install new cabinet, recall Parliament early to cut taxes and open U.S. trade talks

Mark Carney is expected to name a new cabinet within two weeks of his election victory and recall Parliament soon after.

A senior Liberal official told The Globe and Mail that by Canada Day, the new government plans to bring in a new budget that includes a promised middle class tax cut and legislation to remove federal impediments to interprovincial trade.

The Globe and Mail is not identifying the official who was not authorized to discuss the Carney government’s plans.

Well there does seem to have been a Shy Poilievre vote missed by the pollsters. It was not enough to carry the day.

The CBC fat cats are smugly gloating that Poilievre may lose his seat as if they earned their cushy sinecures.

Sad Sack Singh lost his seat but Maudlin May kept hers. So there’s that.

Doug Ford takes it on the chin!

The illegal alien raid in Colorado reveals a cancer in our military

Almost six years ago, before I started working at American Thinker, I wrote a post on my personal blog about Obama’s purge of many military leaders who believed in traditional American values. I entitled it, “Under Obama, there came to be a cancer in the Pentagon.”

That post, especially the title, popped into my head when I read about the fact that over a dozen U.S. service members were rounded up when the DEA raided an illegal club in Colorado Springs, where they found dozens of illegal aliens, many of whom were also gang members, weapons, drugs, and prostitutes. This is the metastasized result of Obama’s efforts, which Biden carried on for him.

Report: Thanks To DEI, Most Medical Schools Now Teach Doctors To Damage Patients

Speech First has uncovered records from more than 50 public medical schools across 46 states, revealing that these institutions are training left-wing advocates who prioritize race in treatment, promote gender identities contrary to biology, and downplay obesity’s health risks. As its report shows, under the guise of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), medical schools enforce conformity to leftist ideologies, such as labeling all white men as racists or disconnecting gender from biological sex. It also shows that free speech is on life support, with dissenters of these ideas and practices facing far-reaching consequences.

In Defence of Adolescence: A Deeply Subversive Satire of Post-Liberal Britain

I realise I’m late to this particular cultural post-mortem, but last week I watched Adolescence, the much-discussed Netflix drama centred on a 13 year-old white boy accused of murdering a female classmate at his school and the emotional fallout that follows.

Contrary to the usual refrain – I watched it so you don’t have to – I think, in fact, you probably should.

Whether by marketing design or pure coincidence, the show arrived amid a great deal of outrage: accusations that it distorts the demographics of youth violence, that it stokes panic about alienated boys, or that it offers up yet another heavy-handed morality tale in prestige-drama packaging.

Will the Next Pope Be Another ‘Pope of Islam’?

Will the next pope continue the last pope’s consistent record of appeasing Islam?

The late Pope Francis had a long record of whitewashing Islamic jihad violence and making moral equivalence arguments in order to downplay jihad terror. Back in 2017, Ahmed al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Cairo’s al-Azhar, noticed the pope’s yeoman service for the Islamic cause and thanked him for his “defense of Islam against the accusation of violence and terrorism.”

Why Europe should accept Trump’s peace deal – Victory isn’t an option for Ukraine

Donald Trump’s latest peace plan landed with a bang, leaving Europe in shock. The version leaked last week suggested US recognition of Crimea; the de facto recognition of Russian-occupied territories; no Nato membership for Ukraine; a lifting of sanctions; and economic co-operation between the US and Russia. European media called it capitulation and insisted it be resisted. Note the passive tense. But the sorry truth is, we Europeans have no alternative.

Inevitably, Trump’s most recent plan will not be the final one. We’ve seen diplomacy playing out in the days since, most visibly in St Peter’s Basilica, where Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky sat down for an impromptu encounter. But also online, where Trump threatened to take action against Vladimir Putin unless he stopped the nightly bombings of residential areas in Ukraine. Given the President’s unpredictability, none of us knows what the final version will look like.
