MOBLAND: How global organized crime came to call Canada home

“It was a glorious time.” — Henry Hill (Ray Liotta), Goodfellas

“Glorious” has been a byword for mobsters in Canada over the past two decades.

Lax sentencing, little oversight, and a government that has either been a) hopelessly naive; b) stupid; c) cynically playing for ethnic votes; or d) all of the above.

“Canada has become a hub for organized crime,” Queen’s University professor and globally recognized organized crime expert Antonio Nicaso told the Toronto Sun.

The downfall of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs — by those who knew him

In September 2023 Sean Combs looked like the king of New York. Leaning out of the window of a black limousine, he cruised across Times Square, gold Rolex on one wrist, diamond bracelet on the other, holding the Key to the City above his head, an honorary award presented to him by the mayor, Eric Adams. This was a victory lap for Combs — also known as Puff Daddy, or Puffy, or P Diddy, or Diddy, or Love — who had dominated the hip-hop and R&B music scenes for three decades.

His label, Bad Boy Records, which he founded in 1993 at 24 years old, launched some of the biggest artists in the field, including the Notorious BIG and Faith Evans. Combs was a hip-hop Midas who turned the artists he signed into gold and platinum-selling megastars. He made himself a star, too, embarking on his own music career. He became the ultimate A-lister, a caricature of celebrity, throwing exclusive “white parties” — named after their dress code — in the Hamptons and St Tropez and rolling through Manhattan in fur coats and convertible Ferraris. He had a clothing line, perfumes, drinks brands — partnering with Diageo for Cîroc vodka — a TV network and he set up several schools in the Bronx, Harlem and Connecticut. By 2022 he was a billionaire.

Trump’s Strong-Arm Tactics Convince Mexico to Take Action Against Cartels

When President Donald Trump demanded the “eradication” of the cartels, Americans rallied behind him.

Franklin Roosevelt described cartels more than eighty years ago as “weapons of economic warfare” and defined “cartel practices” as those that “restrict the free flow of goods in foreign commerce.” In parts of Europe, particularly Nazi Germany, a guild, anti-laissez-faire mindset prevailed in coal, petroleum, steel, and other industries. Roosevelt regarded this economic protectionism as engendering hostility between nations. He instructed Secretary of State Cordell Hull to make the elimination of cartels a priority for the postwar world.

Is Canada Brain-Dead?

As we survey the political landscape today, it is hard to escape the conclusion that a plague of mental catalepsy has swept the globe. One recalls the old multi-attributed adage: whom the gods would destroy they first make mad. Clearly, being rendered stupid would be just as effective.

Good Days for Trumpian Politics

It was barely a month ago when TV watchers across the globe saw a show in which new US president Donald Trump treated visiting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as one of those voodoo dolls made for pushing needles into, thus dodging a curse.

After the show, TV talking heads speculated that, having come to the White House dressed as a rock star rather than a statesman, Zelensky had angered Trump and thus deserved what he got.

Last week, however, Trump hosted another young man dressed as a rock star rather than a statesman, this time with obvious warmth and decorum.

LILLEY: Mark Carney’s spending plans make Justin Trudeau look like a tightfisted miser

Mark Carney’s spending plans, released in his Liberal campaign platform, make Justin Trudeau look like a tightfisted miser.

The plans Carney released Saturday, would see the federal government dramatically increase spending and add a further $130 billion in deficit spending over four years.

Carney will bankrupt Canada then sell off the assets for a song to his cronies.

NYC woman who left swastika brick on Cybertruck is a woke therapist who blamed Elon Musk for tantrum

The Brooklyn woman accused of leaving a brick scrawled with a swastika and the word “Nazi” on a parked Tesla is a super-woke family therapist who was involved in criminal justice diversion programs — and blamed Elon Musk for her heinous actions as she was taken into custody.

Natasha Cohen was released on her own recognizance following her arraignment on hate-crime charges Saturday night, according to prosecutors.

Cohen, 46, has a private practice, working with children, adolescents and their families for more than two decades.

NELSON: It’s the West that will pay the price of Jagmeet Singh’s disaster

Appropriately in future years Canadians might only recall Jagmeet Singh’s tenure as NDP head honcho, while waiting with nervous trepidation for a root canal.

Yes, getting the Liberals to throw Singh that small bone of agreeing to provide almost free dental care for a narrow subset of Canucks — something we couldn’t afford as a nation, of course — was the sum total of his pay-off for keeping the Justin Trudeau regime in power, way past its best-before date.

Trump trolls Dems in Easter message, slams Biden as ‘highly destructive moron’

President Trump on Sunday resurrected one of his favorite Easter traditions by going on an epic tirade against foes including former President Joe Biden — who he called a “highly destructive Moron.

“Happy Easter to all, including the Radical Left Lunatics who are fighting and scheming so hard to bring Murderers, Drug Lords, Dangerous Prisoners, the Mentally Insane, and well known MS-13 Gang Members and Wife Beaters, back into our Country,” Trump, 78, wrote on Truth Social.

Lorne Gunter: Poll shows fear a major motivator steering Canada toward disastrous fourth Liberal term

This week, Postmedia and the pollsters Leger released the most disturbing poll of the federal campaign so far.

No, not one showing the Liberals under Mark Carney with a double-digit lead. I never believed those polls anyway.

I believe the Liberals are ahead, for now. And so long as the Liberals can keep distracting voters from their atrocious record of the past 10 years and keep focusing on Donald Trump’s tariff and annexation threats, they will tragically stay in the lead until April 28.

Maher: Environmental Laws Have Helped China Dominate Rare Earth Market

On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher said that one reason why China has control over the global rare earth minerals market is because zoning and environmental laws have made it too difficult for America to mine for rare earth minerals itself.

Watch Carney on this file, my bet is that if elected he will help ensure China maintains its dominance by feeding the “environmentalist” efforts to halt rare earths mining in Canada.

Freed: Canada’s federal election is a classic western movie showdown

Welcome to Carneymania, the biggest political rage since the (Pierre) Trudeaumania of my youth. Only months ago the Liberal party was so far behind the Conservatives you couldn’t see them in the rear-view mirror.

Now Carney leads by several points in the polls in the most staggering turnaround in Canadian political memory. But he owes it all to one person who has been campaigning furiously for him.

Supreme Court victors getting death threats in gender ruling backlash

The campaigners who won the Supreme Court battle over the legal definition of a woman have been inundated with death threats and misogynistic abuse since the landmark judgment.

On Wednesday five judges sided with the campaign group For Women Scotland (FWS), which argued that single-sex spaces and protections should apply only to people born female. It marked the end of a long-running legal battle and is expected to have big implications for how transgender issues and sex-based rights are applied across Britain.
