Conrad Black: Liberals, not Trump, are the true threat to Canadian sovereignty

With only a little over a week to go before the federal election, and with the debates out of the way, the wheels of the Liberal campaign for a fourth-straight term are finally starting to wobble on their axles. The providential political fantasy land in which the Liberals launched the campaign — the complete fraud that Canada’s continued existence was being threatened by the United States — has receded. U.S. President Donald Trump and his senior colleagues are now processing a queue of 130 countries filing into Washington offering concessions to contribute towards the elimination of the completely unnecessary United States trade deficit of around $1 trillion. Another resounding Trump victory is in the making and Canada is not an inordinately large part of it, although there will be challenging negotiations.

Shameless Chinese firms advertise ‘inflatable boats for refugees’

Chinese companies are selling “inflatable boats for refugees” online and advertising them to people smugglers.

An internet search returns dozens of suppliers promoting “high-quality refugee boats” on Alibaba, a major Chinese e-commerce site, and promising fast shipping to Europe.

It is understood the Home Office is in talks with Beijing about cracking down on the sale of such vessels, which are believed to have been used in the Channel.

Drag queen group mocks Jesus, Christianity in Easter show marketed to kids

A San Francisco drag queen group called the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a self-professed “order of queer and trans nuns,” is sparking controversy in the days leading up to their annual transgender Easter event.

This year’s event, which is being called “No Easter without the T,” is meant to honor transgenderism and features a children’s Easter egg hunt and a costume contest encouraging attendees to come dressed in drag as “Hunky Jesus and Foxy Mary.”

UK Blames Trump: Barking at female staff and blocking doorways – teachers warn of rise in misogyny and racism in schools

A rise in misogyny and racism is flooding UK schools as pupils ape the behaviour of figures such as Donald Trump and Andrew Tate after exposure through social media and online gaming, teachers have warned.

A survey by the NASUWT union found most teachers identified social media as “the number one cause” of pupil misbehaviour, with female staff bearing the brunt. Teachers also raised concerns about parents who refuse to accept school rules or take responsibility for their children’s behaviour.

One teacher told the union: “A lot of the students are influenced by Tate and Trump, they spout racist, homophobic, transphobic and sexist comments in every conversation and don’t believe there will be consequences.”

Sliding in the polls, Jagmeet Singh fights to be heard as voters abandon the NDP

OTTAWA — Jagmeet Singh took a deep breath.

Hours before, Justin Trudeau, Canada’s prime minister and Singh’s former governing ally, had rocked the country by announcing his intention to resign.

With a crucial election now on the horizon, it was the NDP’s last chance to distance itself from Trudeau’s unpopularity and its association with the Liberal government — and position itself for success in the coming race.

“Justin Trudeau’s Liberals,” he started in a forceful voice before pausing, “have let down Canadians.”

He wanted that pension so badly he destroyed his own party by supporting the Liberals.

Thousands join anti-Trump protests across US

Feeble.

Thousands took to the streets across the US on Saturday to protest recent actions by President Donald Trump.

Known as “50501”, for “50 protests, 50 states, 1 movement”, the demonstrations were intended to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the start of the American Revolutionary War.

From outside the White House and Tesla dealerships and at the centres of many cities, protesters expressed a variety of grievances. Many called for the return of Kilmar Ábrego García, who was mistakenly deported to El Salvador.

Toronto’s proposed ‘bubble zone’ bylaw will make intimidating Jews more difficult for the Religion of Peace argues Star

The left love Bubble Zone laws that suit their agenda – Christian woman arrested for silent prayer receives compensation from police

The trouble with Toronto’s proposed ‘bubble zone’ bylaw

Recently, we’ve seen alarming examples of rights being rolled back south of the border. These include attempts to silence those whose political views differ from the government’s — and they should serve as a cautionary tale for Canada. Indeed, now is the time for everyone in this country to protect our fundamental freedoms and resist the erosion of our democratic rights.

With that in mind, we should all be concerned that Toronto city council will next month consider adopting a new “bubble zone” bylaw. This bylaw, yet to be drafted, would limit where people are allowed to hold peaceful public demonstrations such as picket lines, vigils, protests and rallies that some may find offensive. In so doing, it would directly infringe on our freedoms of expression and of peaceful assembly, two cornerstones of Canadian democracy.

The same people arguing against Bubble Zones for Islamist protests likely support Bubble Zone protest bylaws outside abortion clinics.

From Grok – Several provinces in Canada have enacted “bubble zone” laws, also known as safe access zones, to limit demonstrations outside abortion clinics and other facilities providing abortion services. These laws create areas around clinics, hospitals, or providers’ offices where certain activities, such as protesting, picketing, or attempting to dissuade individuals from accessing abortion services, are prohibited. Based on available information, the following provinces have such laws as of April 19, 2025…

Somali actor in film warning of revenge killings shot dead in family feud

“No man avenged has ever risen from the grave” is the haunting tagline of a film that has shocked Somalis to the core in a case of life imitating art.

Called Aano Qabiil, meaning “Clan Vengeance”, the short film sought to highlight the futility of vendettas between rival clans that sometimes go back generations and lead to senseless killings – often of young men who are targeted just because of their lineage.

It was a poetic warning, a cry – a story intended not just to entertain, but to educate a wounded nation.

GOLDSTEIN: How mercy to the guilty became cruelty to the innocent in Canada

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s election promise to use the constitution’s notwithstanding clause to give judges the option of imposing consecutive life sentences on those who commit multiple murders has prompted predictable outrage from Canada’s chattering classes.

Ditto his promise of a “three-strikes-and-you’re-out law,” which would deny criminals convicted of three serious offences bail, probation, parole or house arrest.

Anti-duck town scraps plans for ‘ludicrous’ giant bird statue

For five long years, Swaffham has been a town at war.

Faced with an invasion of ducks, residents have attempted to lure them away with an artificial island, hired professional cleaners to dispose of droppings outside shops and even discussed a cull.

So plans for a 5ft duck statue – part of a sculpture trail branded “Swaffham goes Quackers” – were always likely to trigger deep division.

At a Time of Crisis, Canadians Rush to Vote

When I traveled around Canada during the 2021 election campaign, the prevailing mood among voters I spoke with was one of ennui. Even some of those involved in many of the campaigns weren’t obviously excited about the election.

That’s certainly not the case this year. Advance polls opened on Friday. At the one near my house in Ottawa, there was an hourlong wait during the morning, and poll workers arranged chairs outside the community center hosting the voting to ease the wait. In Montreal that morning, I saw people going into a Chinese community center to cast ballots just after it had opened for voting.

Canada PM Mark Carney ramps up anti-US rhetoric: ‘We must react with crushing force’

Canada’s new Prime Minister Mark Carney has amped up the anti-US rhetoric since swooping in to replace Justin Trudeau at the helm of the Liberal Party, saying this week the Great White North doesn’t need the US.

Carney said he’s looking to diversify trade partnerships with like-minded countries and that Canada stands to gain “far more than Donald Trump can ever take away” — a change in tone from Trudeau, who tried to get Trump to back off on tariffs by calling it “a very dumb thing to do.”

“We must react with a crushing force,” Carney said during a leaders debate in Montreal Wednesday, repeatedly calling the trade war “the most important crisis of our lives.”
