Debate round-up

Not exactly a civil war but Carney did not carry the day simply by not doing a face plant as some in our media insist. He came across as stiff and devious frankly.

Liberals, Tories in virtual dead-heat in GTA: Leger poll

New poll shows Liberals riding ‘fear’ vote, Tories winning ‘hope,’ as gap narrows slightly

OTTAWA — The election is playing out as a story of hopeful Conservative voters versus fearful Liberal voters, according to a new Postmedia-Leger poll.

Three-quarters of Canadians who plan to vote Conservative said the emotion guiding them is “primarily a hope for a better future in Canada to live, work, and raise a family.”

By contrast, six in 10 Liberal voters said they were motivated primarily by “a fear of what the future holds for Canada,” with the unpredictable U.S. President Donald Trump threatening trade relations.

New – Abacus Data Poll: Liberal lead down to 2

Overall, the data suggest that the Liberal lead has narrowed to just two points nationally (40% Liberal vs. 38% Conservative), down from a six-point advantage two weeks ago.

I wonder if a “Shy” Poilievre vote is lurking within the electorate undetected by pollsters.

‘I’ll always be a Conservative,’ Ford says after defending campaign manager’s comments on Pierre Poilievre

Premier Doug Ford says he was “standing up for a friend” when he defended his long-time campaign strategist who recently made critical comments about federal Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre in a string of media interviews.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Ford was asked about the backlash he has faced from some Conservative voters who are unhappy with the comments the premier made when defending his campaign manager Kory Teneycke.

“What I was doing is standing up for a friend, a campaign manager that brought three consecutive majority governments,” Ford said Wednesday.

Letitia ‘No One Is Above The Law’ James Accused Of Doing Exactly What She Prosecuted Trump For

After spending months theatrically chasing President Donald Trump over allegedly inflating property values to secure favorable loan terms (with no actual victims, mind you), James now finds herself the target of a federal criminal referral for — wait for it — allegedly misrepresenting property details to secure favorable loan terms.

In February 2024, James celebrated the $450 million penalty against President Donald Trump and the Trump Organization in a civil fraud case in which there were no victims.

Canada still outside US$1B NATO innovation fund—a year after committing to join

Canada remains on the sidelines of a US$1-billion NATO venture capital fund aimed at backing next-generation defence technology, The Logic has confirmed, despite the federal government’s promise to join the effort one year ago.

Launched in 2022, the 24-member NATO Innovation Fund (NIF) invests in companies developing defence-related technologies in areas like quantum computing, AI and hypersonic systems. The Liberal government under Justin Trudeau had said it would join the fund, and in April 2024 said it had allocated $107 million to NIF over 20 years as part of its “renewed vision for Canada’s defence.”

If it doesn’t involve Trannies they won’t bother.

JD Vance says what needs to be said about illegal aliens and due process

We here at American Thinker have noted that the current Democrat plan regarding illegal aliens is to force them into the legal system to run out the clock. Now, Vice President Vance has chimed in to make the same point. (And no, much as I’d like to think it’s true, he probably hasn’t been reading American Thinker. Instead, what he says is common sense.)

Women exist. Get over it!

The UK Supreme Court has just confirmed what anyone with a grasp on reality has always known: that women are adult human females. In a unanimous and refreshingly rational judgement, the justices in For Women Scotland Ltd vs The Scottish Ministers make clear that the word ‘sex’ in the Equality Act 2010 means exactly what it says – male and female, as determined by biology. It’s a landmark victory for women’s rights, and a resounding humiliation for the Scottish ministers who thought they could rewrite reality.

Geoff Russ: Liberals are the party of grey hair and wealth

We have two Canadas, two peoples and two solitudes, but unlike in years past, they are not the product of race, religion or language.

For Canadians with grey hair, property and growing pensions, it’s usually a joy to live here. A life of affordable property, upward mobility and the promise of valuable assets was their minimum expectation, and most exceeded it. For those under 35, this is verging on a pipe dream.

Karmelo Anthony’s fixer shares outrageous post with killer teen, 17, after he was released to his $800k home

The spokesperson for a Texas teen who fatally stabbed another boy at a track meet has suggested the accused killer is the victim in the situation.

‘Karmelo Anthony is SAFE at home. This moment is a reminder that a community united can never be divided,’ said Minister Dominique Alexander, who works with Next Generation Action Network (NGAN).

‘The journey ahead is long, but today—we celebrate a victory for justice, for family, and for the power of people coming together to protect our youth. Thank you to everyone who stood with us. The fight continues, but tonight, Karmelo is home.’

German ‘Ministry of Truth’ to Guard ‘Free Opinion’

Under the innocuous-looking sub-heading titled “Strengthening media diversity — safeguarding freedom of opinion,” the new German coalition contract conceals what George Orwell would recognize as classic doublespeak. The section “Dealing with disinformation” reads:

“Targeted influence on elections and by now commonplace disinformation and fake news are serious threats to our democracy, its institutions and social cohesion. The deliberate dissemination of false factual claims is not covered by freedom of expression. That is why the media supervisory authority, which is independent of the state, must be able to take action against the manipulation of information, hate-mongering and agitation while safeguarding freedom of expression—on the basis of clear legal requirements … We will ensure that online platforms fulfil their obligations with regard to transparency and cooperation with the supervisory authority.”

SNELL: Jet-set Carney would make flying more expensive for Canada’s growing peasant class

Could Liberal leader Mark Carney be more abhorrent?

The answer is yes, even considering Chinese election interference on behalf of the Liberals, his company receiving a $250-million Chinese loan, and new allegations of offshore tax avoidance in the billions.

Carney branded himself a political outsider from the start of his campaign. Is he also an outsider to decency — positioning himself as a special-class citizen above Canada’s growing peasant class?

What is happening to NDP support?

Why some voters are sticking with Singh and the NDP and why others are voting Liberal despite being open to voting NDP.

Something significant has happened to the NDP vote in this federal election. A party that, for much of the past two years, consistently held between 18% and 20% support now finds itself with just 9% of the committed vote, according to our latest Abacus Data survey conducted from April 7 to 10, 2025. That’s a collapse—one of the most dramatic shifts we’ve seen in this campaign. The last time support for the NDP was this low was way back in the 1990s.

The untold story of how Trump shocked Europe in a few short days

PARIS — European leaders knew Donald Trump’s second term as U.S. president would be a challenge. But the magnitude and speed with which Washington broke from decades-long defense policies forced governments across the continent to confront the unthinkable: Is the U.S. now more of a threat than a partner?

POLITICO reporters have dug deep into the events of a couple of weeks in February when everything changed. Europe experienced a series of Trump-induced geopolitical shocks that shook the transatlantic relationship to its core and rattled Europe’s faith in its most crucial ally.

It prompted leaders in Berlin and Warsaw to reverse — in a matter of days — their security doctrines, and diplomats to try to salvage what remains of the post-World War II order.
