Jabs and jokes as leaders fight each other for Francophones’ vote during first debate

MONTREAL — Federal party leaders alternated between jabs and jokes early as they sparred during the election campaign’s only French-language debate Wednesday.

The first of two federal campaign debates in Montreal began with moderator Patrice Roy exhorting the Montreal Canadiens to win a do-or-die game that forced organizers to change the event’s start time at the last minute.

But knives started flying fast between Liberal Leader Mark Carney , Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre , Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh as they debated how they could deal with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Michael Higgins: Button scandal but the latest example of Carney’s failing moral compass

On two recent occasions, Liberal Leader Mark Carney had the opportunity to take a strong, ethical stand — to quite simply do the right thing — and twice he failed to do so.

Carney refused to fire Liberal candidate Paul Chiang, after he said a rival should be kidnapped and handed over to China; and now he has failed to dismiss staffers who maliciously distributed fake and misleading buttons at a Conservative conference.

The Blue Origin lady spaceflight was desperate, sad and tasteless

I was determined to write something positive about Blue Origin’s “historic all-female spaceflight.” The spectacle was an all-American underdog story. Jeff Bezos worked his way up from dorky book salesman to buff billionaire who can launch his busty bride-to-be into space alongside some celebrities — because hey, why not?

Then I saw the group photos of the girl gang, and I just couldn’t. My resolve dissolved faster than the lip fillers in Khloé Kardashian’s fake face. All I could think was, “Vanity of vanities! All things are vanity!”

Columbia Is Targeting Catholic Students Like Me

The university says it’s cracking down on campus anti-Semitism. Instead, it’s going after a student for publicly expressing his faith.

Columbia University has told the Trump administration that it’s cracking down on anti-Semitic violence and intimidation and winding down DEI. But behind closed doors, the university’s Office of Institutional Equity (OIE), a new bureaucracy supposedly set up to address campus anti-Semitism, is targeting me for expressing my Catholic faith.

GUNTER: Mark Carney contradicts himself on the pipelines question

Remember last week when Liberal Leader Mark Carney promised a Calgary audience that his Liberal government would make Canada “the world’s leading energy superpower?”

First of all, I don’t know how many times we Albertans are going to have to hear some Liberal politician come to our province and promise to advance our energy industry before we immediately break into gales of laughter.

Texas Recognizes “Pakistan Day” As Pakistan Destroys Human Rights

The Texas House of Representatives passed a resolution on March 28, officially recognizing March 23 as “Pakistan Day.” The resolution, introduced by State Representative Dr. Suleman Lalani, claims that Pakistani Texans have made “significant contributions in the state’s social, religious, linguistic, and economic spheres.” Pakistan’s Consul General in Texas, Muhammad Aftab Chaudhry, was present at the event.

Samidoun Skank Charlotte Kates helps effort to get Hamas removed from U.K. terror watchlist

Samidoun Bitch Charlotte Kates

Samidoun leader Charlotte Kates assisted a British law firm filing an application seeking to delist Hamas as a “proscribed,” or banned, terror group in the United Kingdom, she says.

“It’s an honour to have contributed to this critically important application … against the criminalization of Palestinian resistance in Britain, the imperial power responsible for Zionist colonialism in Palestine,” Kates posted on X last Wednesday.

Hacked pedestrian crossings play fake messages from Musk and Zuckerberg

Pedestrian crossings in several areas of northern California have been hacked with fake greetings mocking the tech billionaires Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg.

Officials in Silicon Valley are investigating and have disabled the audio feature on the crossings which usually plays instructions to “walk” or “wait”.

The surprise message were noticed over the weekend in Palo Alto, Redwood City and Menlo Park – which is home to Zuckerberg’s sprawling Meta campus.

Nearly 900,000 fewer people went to the U.S. in March as cross-border travel plummets

The number of cross-border travellers going from Canada to the U.S. dropped by nearly 900,000 in March compared to the same month last year, according to the latest U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data — easily one of the worst year-over-year drops recorded outside of the COVID-19 health crisis.

The border figures show 4,105,516 travellers crossed the U.S. northern border in March of this year, down from 4,970,360 people who did the same in 2024 — a roughly 17 per cent decline that observers say is largely driven by President Donald Trump’s trade war, 51st state taunts and Canada-bashing.

‘You Are the Purveyors of Hate’: Lemon Blames GOP for PA Arson Attack

Over the weekend, Pennsylvania Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro was the target of a possible politically motived arson attack at the Governor’s mansion by a man with a history of mental illness and animosity towards both parties. But minutes after the news broke on Monday, disgraced former CNN host Don Lemon took to his podcast to blame President Trump, MAGA, and Republicans in general for the attack and every bad act in America; proclaiming: “You are the purveyors of hate!”

LILLEY: Carney campaign’s prayers answered with latest 51st state comments

Mark Carney was handed a gift again on Tuesday from the people he says he’s fighting against.

As the Liberal leader was busy preparing for Wednesday’s French-language leaders debate, Donald Trump’s White House put the idea of the 51st state back on the election agenda.
