Mark Carney is trying to market globalism as a ‘Canadian value.’ Will it work?

The storm over Donald Trump’s threatened tariffs over the Canadian border crisis has been baked into a vote-winning meme by Canada’s Liberal Party. Yet with an election only weeks away on April 28, can a sentimental appeal to a vanished Canada secure a win for Mark Carney?

Trump’s tariffs were expected to hit Canada on Wednesday’s “Liberation Day,” refueling a furor over Canadian sovereignty which has led some to say this is “shaping up to be the trade war election.”

Toronto police spent nearly $20 million to deploy officers to protests related to the Israel-Hamas war

Toronto police spent nearly $20 million to secure protests related to the Israel-Hamas war and to conduct community outreach within the city’s Jewish and Muslim communities last year, a new report shows.

“Maintaining public order is integral to core service delivery and adheres to provincial standards of adequate and effective policing,” the report, which will go before the Toronto Police Services Board next week, states.

The report says that in 2024, the service responded to over 2,000 “unplanned events” and that more than half of those were associated with Project Resolute, which was launched after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel and saw police ramp up their presence throughout the city via command posts and community engagement.

It’s not as if the city rolled out the welcome mat for Hamas.

EU Parliament Blocks Motion Condemning Treatment of Women Under Sharia Law

Left “so afraid of fundamentalists” that it cannot confront the influence of Islamism in Europe

On Thursday, April 3rd, the European Parliament’s Strasbourg plenary adopted a resolution to condemn Iran for executing hundreds of political prisoners each year and to call for revoking the death sentence of two prominent activists facing imminent execution.

However, when the national conservative Patriots for Europe (PfE) wanted to add an amendment to also condemn the treatment of women under Sharia law and warn about the informal spread of the practice in Europe, the Parliament blocked the initiative before MEPs could even vote on it.

The urgency is upon us: We need to defend Canada

This “Leader” wrote the column.

We have been in a historical turning point in the global order for several years. Certainly now, that reality should be starkly obvious to all.

The rules-based order that arose from the ashes of the Second World War, by which institutions and norms provided guardrails that successfully prevented another bloodletting of a global scale for eight decades, is in its death throes. The final nails are being driven into its coffin by a White House that has offered, in the recent words of American strategist Dr. Eliot Cohen, “aid and comfort to our enemies in increasing regularity.”

These TDS casualties were all happy with the status quo when the USA was footing the bill.

Canada stood proudly among the biggest freeloaders while remaking the CAF into a Transgender Parade Rapid Deployment Force.

US ‘will not be fooled’ by Putin over ceasefire in Ukraine

The United States has warned that it will not be fooled by President Putin into “endless negotiations” over a ceasefire in Ukraine, as European governments criticised the Russian leader for dragging his feet.

Speaking at the end of a two-day Nato meeting in Brussels, Marco Rubio, the US secretary of state, said Washington would “know soon enough, in a matter of weeks, not months, whether Russia is serious about peace or not. I hope they are”.

Rubio added: “If this is dragging things out, President Trump’s not going to fall into the trap of endless negotiations about negotiations.”

Trump’s talk of a Canadian “faucet” has Columbia River Basin residents on edge

The September backdrop was drought and the 2024 California wildfires. The location was Donald Trump’s expensive Los Angeles golf course. The words uttered by the Republican presidential candidate were that the Columbia River Basin was “essentially a very large faucet” and if all that water was diverted from the Pacific Ocean, “all of that water would come … right into Los Angeles.”

Disentangle from Europe

Marine Le Pen was just banned from running for president of France for five years. That’s more like forever. Le Pen is deemed a criminal and sentenced to wear an electronic tag for a couple years. A French court claims she embezzled. But why would we believe a French court any more than we believe a Manhattan or D.C. district court? Trump’s been through those wringers.

Macron and his mates did to Le Pen what Romanian elites did to Calin Georgescu, the populist candidate for president there. Reportedly, he was the frontrunner. If you smell a rat, you’re right.
