America’s Missing Men

The stories beyond the rise of untimely deaths

The window had no curtains, no blinds. Though the back of a big screen TV obscured a portion of the view into the living quarters of the duplex. Passing by I’d often see a young man on a couch, facing the TV, controller in hands, inexplicably wearing a medical mask over his mouth and nose; inexplicably, I say, because he was alone. I’d only ever seen him leave to take the trash out. He’d walk with stiff and jagged gestures, with the unsteadiness of old age though he looked to be in his 40s.

Neighbors didn’t judge; he was a veteran and Lord knows what he’d seen.

Where Do You Bury a Nazi?

When Daniel and Victoria Van Beuningen first toured their future home, a quiet villa in the Polish city Wroclaw, it had been abandoned for years, its windows sealed up with bricks. But something about its overgrown garden spoke to them. They could imagine raising chickens there, planting tomatoes and cucumbers. They could make something beautiful out of it, they thought — a place where their children could run and play.

They moved in knowing very little about what happened at the villa before World War II, when Wroclaw, formerly Breslau, was still part of Germany; or what occurred there during the war, when Soviet forces held the city under a brutal siege; or even what became of the house during the war’s aftermath, when hundreds of thousands of local Germans were forcibly resettled from what was now Polish territory. All their neighbors could tell them was that the villa had once housed a Communist newspaper.

Still, the couple wanted to know more, and their inquiries eventually led to the Meinecke family in Heidelberg, Germany, elderly siblings who said they were born in the home. Over a long afternoon, they showed the couple pictures of the place from happier times before the war, but they also offered the Van Beuningens a surprising warning: The couple might find the remains of some German soldiers buried in the garden. Maybe a few, maybe more; they couldn’t be certain.

Geoff Russ: Mark Carney can’t be trusted to get immigration under control

Donald Trump and his tariffs will not be the only key issue that determines who will be prime minister after April, 28. Canada has been plagued by a diverse set of problems for years, all of which will be remembered by voters on election day, including immigration.

Prior to Trump’s election and his decision to threaten Canada, one of the biggest controversies in Canada was the abrupt end of an uncontested pillar in Canadian political culture — immigration. It crumbled as if struck by a sledgehammer after just a few years of the Trudeau government’s careless mass-immigration policies.

The Star whitewashes the Century Initiative of course.

Pierre Poilievre has the ‘Century Initiative’ and its links to Mark Carney in his crosshairs. So what is it?

When Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre mentioned the “Century Initiative” at a campaign rally in Hamilton, Ont., the crowd booed loudly.

Poilievre has made an attack on the immigration-focused group a part of his stump speech in the first week of the campaign, and has criticized Liberal Leader Mark Carney for appointing one of the group’s co-founders to a key advisory council.

Snow White flop sparks anti-woke U-turn: Whistleblowers reveal how trans actors & liberal films are being dumped in ‘crisis mode’ panic

The Walt Disney Company’s latest live-action flop Snow White – a movie beset by disenchanting ticket sales, a comically progressive leading lady and even angry little people protests – tells you everything you need to know about the state of Hollywood.

In the classic Snow White tale, the heroine is awoken from her poison-apple induced slumber by Prince Charming. But there’s no prince in Disney’s remake – and the terror now gripping Tinseltown is that there’s no one coming to rouse them from their nightmare either.

More than a dozen Hollywood insiders ranging from an Oscar-nominated producer to the writer of one of the most successful TV shows ever have spoken exclusively to the Daily Mail about an industry in ‘crisis mode.’

How Just Stop Oil was policed to extinction

JSO, the climate activist group, is planning its final protest next month after senior figures were given long prison sentences

Just Stop Oil had looked on enviously at Dutch environmentalists who managed to rouse thousands of people to block a main road outside parliament in the Netherlands to protest against fossil fuel subsidies.

They had hoped to emulate their success in central London by gradually swelling a small demonstration to a mass protest that could “reclaim parliament”.

But the logistics of having enough people to occupy Parliament Square and the deterrent of potential jail sentences killed the idea in the end. “The firepower wasn’t there,” Jonathon Porritt, a JSO supporter, said.

Should Canada explore developing a nuclear weapons program?

Amid a changing global security landscape and ongoing sovereignty taunts from U.S. President Donald Trump, one military expert says Canada may need to reconsider its position on nuclear weapons.

In the current geopolitical environment, Canadians need to start thinking about “difficult questions” around national security, Jean-François Bélanger, assistant professor of Military Operations at the Royal Danish Defence College, said in a Tuesday interview with BNN Bloomberg.

“What does it mean when our Number 1 ally in the first place decouples from European security and also mentions that they’re tired of paying for Canadian security collaboration, and on the other hand threatens annexation?” he said.

In 2016, Ivanka was Trump’s Most Trusted Advisor. Today, It’s Don Jr. — and That’s Changed EVERYTHING.

“Ivanka is Donald Trump’s biggest supporter and most trusted advisor,” gushed one woman’s magazine in 2017. And, by all accounts, nobody else in the Trump administration had the president’s ear more than his first daughter, Ivanka Trump. Along with her husband, real estate mogul Jared Kushner, Ivanka was the ultimate power behind the MAGA throne.

Indeed, she was even described as her father’s “eyes and ears.”

Wheels within wheels.

Never much cared for Ivanka and her hubby.

Conrad Black: Mark Carney has poor values

To be as well-informed as possible about the present election campaign, I have read Liberal Leader Mark Carney’s book Value(s): Building a Better World For All . I knew before I began about the author’s impassioned climate views and his faith in authoritarian regulatory government as the method for imposing upon people goals he holds to be in their long-term interest even, and especially, if they are not immediately shared by the public. It is the most turgid work of a political leader that I have read since Hitler’s Mein Kampf, (though in no other respect would I compare it to that book although Hitler, hard though it is to believe, at least as an author, had a better sense of humour than Mr. Carney). The title is also the most sanctimonious of a political leader that I can remember since the retired Irish Taoiseach Charles Haughey, (who was caught with both hands in the cookie bin up to his shoulders), who modestly styled his memoir “Conscience of a Nation.”

Conservatives fear ‘dysfunctional’ campaign and ‘civil war’ in the party: sources

As Conservative infighting over how the campaign is handling U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff threats spills into the open, sources within the party are describing a “dysfunctional” campaign with too much centralized power and belittling and aggressive treatment of staff.

More than half a dozen Conservatives, who spoke to CBC News on the condition they not be named for fear of retribution, describe a campaign that is “highly disorganized” and “a mess.” The sources include individuals both inside and outside the campaign.

Inside the “radical” Right-wing anti-Semitism summit causing turmoil in the Jewish world

His party was founded by a convicted Holocaust denier and a former Nazi officer, but on Thursday evening Jordan Bardella posed for selfies amongst adoring followers in Jerusalem.

Ascending the stage at the International Conference on Combating Anti-Semitism, the young president of Marine Le Pen’s National Rally (RN) must have known already that he was the star attraction.

“Since Oct 7 in particular, we have witnessed the deadly honeymoon between Islamism and the extreme Left,” he told the audience, an incongruous mix of Israeli politicians and other radical Right-wing Europeans.

Trump Was Right to Kill the EV Mandate

Scrapping the EPA’s draconian tailpipe-emissions rule will boost competition, benefit consumers, and strengthen national security.

In his March 4 address to a joint session of Congress, President Donald Trump celebrated terminating Joe Biden’s “insane electric vehicle mandate.” A year ago, the Biden Environmental Protection Agency had finalized a rule, nominally about tailpipe emissions, that would have required 30 percent to 56 percent of all new light-duty consumer cars sold in the United States to be electric vehicles (EVs). Trump announced his intention to undo Biden’s EV overreach in his first week in office, as part of his executive order entitled “Unleashing American Energy.”

Not Helping …

Why conspiracy theorists are trying so hard to falsely link Mark Carney and Jeffrey Epstein

If attack ads are any measure, Mark Carney is squarely in the political big leagues.

In the weeks since he entered the Liberal leadership race, ads both for and against him have sprouted across social media. While mudslinging is par for the course in politics, one particularly dark current has worked — without evidence — to tie him to Jeffrey Epstein, the notorious American financier and trafficker of underage girls who, though dead for six years, remains a very current fixation in far-right circles

Not trying at all, in fact it’s pretty darn easy.

Canada’s bought media know no shame.
