‘I’m China’s Charles Darwin’, says jailed gene editor who wants to end natural evolution

The Chinese scientist who was imprisoned for secretly creating the world’s first genetically-engineered babies has claimed he will be remembered as China’s Charles Darwin for ultimately eliminating natural selection.

He Jiankui, who shocked the scientific world in 2018 when he said he had rewritten the DNA of two twins, Lulu and Nana, told The Telegraph that he had no regrets over the controversial experiment.

An investigation by Chinese authorities – which also revealed a third gene-edited baby – resulted in a three-year prison sentence.

Nobody Wants the Covid Truth

Secret handshake?

Why Western intel agencies help Putin and Xi keep their darkest secrets.

Scientists who, in 1978, quickly concluded the previous year’s global flu pandemic originated in a lab leak in China or Russia chose not to advertise their findings. Their overriding priority: protect diplomatic relations with Russia and China.

“A laboratory release was the most likely origin,” wrote clinical pathologist Martin Furmanski in a 2014 revisitation of the incident, “but they were content not to publicize this.”

GUNTER: Carney surrounded by same crew that created disastrous Trudeau Liberal policies

By the time many of your read this, Canada is expected to be into a federal election. And the front-runner is a man who has never been elected to public office and has never faced Parliament.

He isn’t even an MP. And he is keen to call a general election because he doesn’t have to go through a byelection where he would be the sole focus of public scrutiny.

Elon Musk as Public Accountant

As Elon Musk pursues his “draining the swamp” in Washington, D.C., his plan to reduce the size of the US federal government may have a number of unintended consequences.

To be sure, few people might disagree with ending payments to millions of people who continue drawing their Social Security benefits years after having died and been buried.

Even fewer might approve of channeling millions of dollars in aid to NGOs in such emerging economic giants like India and Indonesia, not to mention sinkholes such as Afghanistan or active anti-American states like South Africa.

Motion to ban pride flags coming to catholic school board meeting

An update to what flags the Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) flies could be coming.

A meeting on Monday, March 24 looks to discuss a motion brought forward by Trustee Conrad Stanley that aims to ban rainbow, pride flags, and other political symbols.

Inside the motion it cites “ongoing complaints, protests and delegations” from Waterloo Catholic parents, constituents and rate payers as one of the reasons. Adding that the “international identity-based flags like the rainbow, pride and progress flags remains divisive and unpopular.”

‘A clever agent’: notes from ‘watchers’ of spy Kim Philby made public for first time

Kim Philby & George Blake, Moscow

Secret surveillance of Britain’s notorious double agent, Kim Philby, made public for the first time in archived documents, reveals how keenly the Security Service wanted to confirm or disprove early suspicions of his high-level treachery.

In daily bulletins submitted to MI5 in November 1951, undercover operatives describe how Philby, codenamed Peach, moved about London.

They said he gave “no outward sign of being either nervous or on the alert, but your well trained man should not do so; every movement is natural – again as it should be”.

Mike Myers Joins Canadian Election Campaign Alongside Mark Carney With Anti-Trump ‘Never 51’ Jersey

Carney and no longer commercially viable talent play patriot

Canadian-born actor Mike Myers has injected himself into the looming Canada election by appearing in a rinkside video with recently anointed Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to embrace the Maple Leaf flag and declare his allegiance to the Liberal leader.

Variety reports the video pairing the two was launched Saturday and begins with former Bank of Canada and former Bank of England boss Carney watching a hockey game in a Team Canada jersey.

Hypocrisy is the default setting of smug Canadians.

Will The Media Investigate Who’s Behind The Tesla Terror?

History records this of the famous Nixon Watergate scandal.

In the summer of 1972, as an American presidential election featuring incumbent Republican President Richard Nixon and Democrat Senator George McGovern swirled, two young, green Washington Post reporters, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein by name, learned of a break-in at Washington’s Watergate Hotel and office complex. A break-in at the offices of the Democratic National Committee.

Are drug cartels operating in Toronto? This is what we know

It was at a news conference back in January that Toronto police gave members of the public a glimpse at an investigation involving what they described as “violent” Mexican organized crime group known as the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

The group, police said, was linked to the largest cocaine bust in the service’s history. Investigators confirmed that more than half of the $83 million worth of cocaine that was seized as part of the drug squad probe was found in a transport truck that travelled from Mexico, through the United States, and into Canada. Two of the six suspects arrested in the case were Mexican nationals.

Canada, May I Introduce You to Ukraine?

I had a conversation last week with a Canadian journalist about the culture war on American campuses. After we finished talking about that, she had one final question for me.

“What the hell is Trump thinking about Canada?”

She wasn’t just asking about President Trump’s tariff threats. She was also asking about Trump’s obsession with referring to Canada as the 51st state. The tariffs were somewhat understandable, even if terribly misguided. They are, after all, one of Trump’s few consistent policy obsessions. He likes tariffs perhaps even more than he likes walls.

‘Change is coming’: Poilievre launches campaign with a pitch to heal a ‘divided country’

OTTAWA — Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre launched his campaign on Sunday at the Museum of History across the Ottawa River from Parliament Hill, arguing that his party is in the race to “make a change” from the Liberal status quo.

Poilievre beat Prime Minister Mark Carney to the punch, speaking half an hour before Carney was scheduled to ask Governor General Mary Simon to dissolve Parliament and send Canadians to the polls next month.

Yes, Disney Cares That It’s $250 Million ‘Snow White’ Is Tanking at the Box Office

The Walt Disney Company, the most financially successful entertainment conglomerate in history, laid an egg with its latest blockbuster live-action/animated hybrid “Snow White.” It’s not the first time that Disney produced a clunker. In a business that is essentially “hit or miss,” and where misses are far more common than hits, Disney’s formulaic approach to the business of making movies failed them.

A good compilation of the real – not insider/influencer reviews after Disney ended the review embargo.

What’s the German word for Schadenfreude? Toronto Tesla owners grapple with politics of Musk and Trump amid thorny trade war

When Deborah Wilson first bought her Tesla Model Y in 2022, she loved it.

A resident of Toronto’s Beaches neighbourhood and a busy mother of two, she found it nimble and fun to drive. Plus, it was an environmentally sound purchase and saved her money on gas at a time when every trip to the pump was pricey.

But since then, she’s become increasingly self-conscious driving it around town amid U.S. President Donald Trump‘s threat of annexation and close relationship with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who has stirred up significant controversy of his own.
