White House official threatens to redraw Canadian border

Peter Navarro is pushing negotiators to discuss reworking country’s boundaries, The Telegraph can reveal

A top White House official has threatened to redraw the Canadian border amid Donald Trump’s ambition to turn the country in America’s “51st state”.

Peter Navarro, one of Donald Trump’s closest advisers, is pushing US negotiators to discuss reworking the border with their Canadian counterparts, The Telegraph can reveal.

“Navarro recommended revising the Canada-US border, which is just crazy and dangerous,” a source close to negotiations told The Telegraph.

Grain of salt time … The article propagates the ‘Kick Canada Out Of 5 Eyes’ rumour, also attributed to “unnamed sources.”

Andrew Tate and brother Tristan ‘flee Romania for US’ on private jet

Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have reportedly fled Romania on a private jet headed for the US.

The controversial influencers are understood to have left Baneasa airport shortly after 5am on Thursday, according to the BBC.

The flight comes less than two weeks after reports that Trump officials were lobbying the Romanian government to lift travel restrictions on the pair.

I don’t have much time for Tate and wonder at his good acquaintance with other prominent internet “personalities”.

Return to Malibu

Interesting info on rebuilding efforts. Evidently virtually all the multi-million dollar beach front homes, many bult in the 50’s, 60’s and earlier were outfitted with septic systems that fall well below current building code standards. It will be a bureaucratic nightmare to receive rebuilding approval and the cost of a new septic system will likely run into several million dollars per home.

DOGE says Texas nonprofit collected millions of dollars each month to operate an empty facility

The Department of Health and Human Services has terminated a contract with a nonprofit that was paid millions each month to operate a Texas overflow facility that sat empty, according to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

In a social media post, DOGE said a former US Customs and Immigration Enforcement employee and Biden transition team member joined Family Endeavors in early 2021, where they helped the organization secure a sole-source HHS contract for overflow housing from licensed care facilities.

John Ivison: Why Conservatives say they aren’t sweating the Liberals’ Lazarus-like revival

The Conservatives first recorded a 20-point lead in public opinion last June and pundits concluded that the Liberals coming back from such a deficit was as likely as growing flowers in the desert.

Yet, a mere eight months later we have the first poll to suggest the governing party, which is not even under new management yet, has overhauled Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives, according to Ipsos findings released Tuesday.

The Lazarus-like revival suggests the Liberals have gained 10 points of support since Ipsos’s last poll in January. For a brief moment before Justin Trudeau resigned, it looked as if they were on track to lose official party status after the next election; now it’s the NDP that is facing that prospect.

Zelensky to meet Trump in Washington to sign minerals deal

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet US President Donald Trump in Washington on Friday to sign an agreement on sharing his country’s mineral resources, Trump has said.

Zelensky has described the bilateral deal as preliminary, and said he wants further agreements which include US security guarantees to deter renewed Russian aggression.

But Trump said the US would not provide guarantees “beyond… very much”, saying the responsibility should instead fall to Europe.

Trump also seemingly ruled out the prospect of Ukraine becoming a Nato member – one of Zelensky’s long-held ambitions.

Anti-Trump sentiment drives dramatic upturn in fortunes for Canada’s Liberals

Canada’s ruling Liberals, who a few weeks ago looked certain to lose an election this year, are mounting a major comeback amid the threat of US tariffs and are tied with their rival Conservatives, according to three new polls.

An Ipsos survey released late on Tuesday showed the left-leaning Liberals have 38% public support and the official opposition right-of-center Conservatives have 36%. The Liberals have overturned a 26-point deficit in six weeks, and run advertisements comparing Conservative leader, Pierre Poilievre, to Donald Trump.

It’s the Guardian so take it with a Big Grain of Salt. Two things to remember…

1) As Nanos noted the LPC has no leader and therefore no focus for voter ire.

2) Lorrie Goldstein reminds us of the Kamala Bump and how that ended.

CBC Goes Hard On Carney

Mark Carney has answered some questions — but many more remain

Near the end of Tuesday night’s Liberal leadership debate — the second and last time all four candidates will be on the same stage together before a winner is announced on March 9 — Justin Trudeau’s would-be successors were asked how they would differentiate themselves from him.

Chrystia Freeland, who until two months ago was Trudeau’s most trusted lieutenant, initially tried to sidestep the question. Mark Carney, the former central banker who has only advised the prime minister on a volunteer basis, was much more ready to answer.

“I’m different in the following respects,” he said, citing his intention to be “laser focused” on the economy and his tendency to be “much more of a hands-on manager” focused on “results and getting things done.”
