Tell me the mathematics got all mixed up. Maybe they missed putting in a decimal point somewhere.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is facing a fresh crisis after his lawyer Anthony Ricco stepped down from his legal team with a very cryptic statement.
In a motion for withdraw of counsel filed in New York on Thursday, Ricco said ‘under no circumstances can I continue to effectively serve as counsel for Sean Combs’.
The notice added that discussions had been had with lead counsel Marc Agnifilo and Ricco before the motion was filed.

My interest and concern regarding the war in Ukraine come naturally. My mother was born in Ukraine, and her story of harrowing flight from her village with her mother and brother in the middle of a snowstorm in the dead of night, pursued by a squad of White Russians and Ukrainian irregulars, remains fresh in my mind.
My father was born in the Russian oblast (administrative division) of Georgia near the border of South Ossetia, Stalin’s home region, and was the spitting image of the Russian tyrant — short, muscular, with a heavy mustache, a tendency to violence, and, like Stalin, played the piano. A racketeer who had the mayor of Montreal in his pay, he kept an enemies list and occasionally acted on it. In some sense, a domestic version of the Russia-Ukraine conflict occurred in my own home.

Oh, Canada’s Liberal leadership race — could it be any more fixed and favouring the few?
It’s like watching a rerun of a show you never liked in the first place. The contenders are all singing the same tired tune, obsessing over Trump’s tariff threats as if they’re the only issue that matters, while conveniently ignoring the real challenges that shape the Great White North.

Immigration Minister Marc Miller accused Canadian universities of sourcing too many students from India, and said he expects a better “diversity” of international students in future.
He also said Canada needs to return to relying on “quality” over “quantity” of immigrants. “I think we do need to make sure that the Canadian brand does focus on excellence, on quality, and less quantity,” he said.
How about none from anywhere? A few bankrupt universities is not the loss some imagine.
If you watch nothing else online this year take it from me and watch last week’s speech by US Vice-President J.D. Vance at the annual Munich Security Conference. It’s only 19 minutes long, including all the preamble pleasantries. It’s delivered by a man who is not afraid to tell hard truths, even to friends. And boy-oh-boy did the assembled European elites hate what they were told. To say that the applause was muted would be a gross exaggeration. It was more stunned silence and the gritting of teeth from the assembled Eurocracy.
It is remarkable the impact this speech is having around the world.

STRATFORD, NEW JERSEY — The closest Canadian stronghold to Donald Trump’s Trade-War-A-Lago is a bright, spacious fortress with plenty of free parking in the suburbs of Philadelphia, 230 kilometres northeast of the Oval Office. It is a command centre and commissariat where the True North is revered, the current American president is reviled, annexation will be strenuously resisted, and a Maple Dip costs US$1.81, tax included.
A bit ironic that the article features Tim Horton’s a foreign owned and long faded national icon known more for its substandard 3rd World service than as a symbol of “Canadiana”.

A billboard promoting Alberta to join the U.S.A. that recently popped up on Highway 2 north of Calgary has sparked some backlash, with many drivers wondering who’s behind the giant advertisement.
Thanks to the end of DEI, jobs such as pilots and drivers will cease to exist for those with disabilities.
Many are calling this unfair and unconstitutional. pic.twitter.com/YleMIU2K1H

And just like that, we are back in 2017. Donald Trump, the President of the United States, is posting ridiculous hyperbole on his socials and mouthing off from Mar-a-Lago, as he always has.
In the last 24 hours, however, the global political and media classes have gone back to gnashing their teeth and wailing in the way they did in Trump’s first term. It’s disgraceful! It’s sub-literate! He’s Vladimir Putin’s puppet! He’s reckless and utterly out of control! And that, of course, is the point.

Fellow-to-faculty programs have seeded academia with activists.
In the days after the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, Jemma Decristo, a UC Davis professor, took to social media to express support for the violent energies that had erupted in the Middle East. “HELL YEAH,” Decristo wrote on X, responding to a report that protesters had set fire to the Israeli embassy in Jordan. Reposting news of protests at the United States embassy in Lebanon, Decristo added, “[fire icon] to the US embassy. US out of everywhere. US GO HOME. US GO HOME.”

A Liberal Party of Canada committee has voted unanimously to disqualify former MP Ruby Dhalla from the race to be the next leader, according to a source.
That source, who was not authorized to speak on the record, said a special joint committee met and voted Friday afternoon to remove Dhalla for violating the race’s rules.
She faced 12 allegations, including accepting donations from a corporation in the form of payments to campaign staff, the source said.

Avoiding generalizations about groups of people is almost always wise. In doing so, we avoid the snares that can lead to prejudicial conclusions that cause us to forget that even those who differ from us in many ways have a common humanity. When people refer to opponents of any kind by saying that “they” (whoever the “they” might be) ”are all alike” and therefore bad, we know they are usually telling us far more about themselves than anything else.
And yet, as much as we might wish it not to be so, there are occasions when groups do exhibit loathsome behavior that are a clear illustration of their beliefs and values.
