Jamie Sarkonak: Even Carney can’t explain his discredited ‘carbon offset’ plan

Carbon offsets are unreliable, fraud-ridden financial tokens that often fail to make any environmental impact at all. And if Mark Carney gets his way, they’re going to be Canada’s next big industry.

In his carbon reduction pitch to Liberal voters, Carney pledged himself to “developing and integrating a new consumer carbon credit market” that works with the existing industrial carbon tax, and promised it would bring about price certainty, market efficiency and fiscal neutrality.

Egyptian NHS doctor who ‘glorified’ Hamas spared deportation

An Egyptian NHS doctor who mocked Israeli festival-goers for fleeing Hamas gunmen on Oct 7 has won a legal challenge against deportation.

An immigration tribunal judge backed Dr Mennah Elwan, 34, in her claim that James Cleverly, the home secretary at the time, was wrong to cancel her leave to remain in the UK after ruling that her presence was “not conducive to the public good”.

It followed what Stephen Davies, an upper tribunal judge, said were three “shocking and inexcusable” posts on X in which he agreed with Mr Cleverly that Dr Elwan had supported, justified and glorified the terrorist violence by Hamas.

Internal military report blames botched shooter drill on poor organization

An internal report blames a lack of communication for a debacle on a Canadian Armed Forces base last fall, when masked men taking part in active-shooter drill fired blanks at civil servants who didn’t know it was a training exercise.

During the drill, which took place on Nov. 12 at a service depot at CFB Longue-Pointe in Montreal, military police also confused a racialized employee with a drill participant playing an active shooter and wrestled him to the ground.

Southport survivors’ parents: We don’t feel lucky

Seven months after their daughters were injured in the attack, a family speaks for the first time about the day that shattered their world

It has been seven months since the attack and seven months since the parents last shared a bed. They take it in turns to lie next to each of their traumatised daughters, alternating every night. They have swapped out the singles in the girls’ shared bedroom for a king-size bed, in the hope of snatching a few hours of rest themselves.

Since July 29 sleep, however fitful, has become vanishingly rare. Before bed, the girls insist on checking again and again that every door in the house has been locked. They pore over doorbell video, looking for shapes in the dark.

Canada Must End Foreign Interference on University Campuses

The Chinese philosopher Confucius is of course a household name for many. He may have lived 2,500 years ago, but many of his sayings still reverberate today. Here is a sampling relevant to the topic at hand:

“Study the past if you would define the future” and “An oppressive government is more to be feared than a tiger.”

In this country, some may be aware of the presence of “Confucius Institutes” on several university campuses and within school boards. These bodies, sponsored by the People’s Republic of China, were founded in 2007 to “promote the learning of Chinese language in Canada, to foster Sino-Canada educational exchanges and to improve the understanding between Canada and China.” Who could argue with such lofty goals?

OTTAWA — Liberal leadership candidate Mark Carney’s new pitch for separate federal operating and capital budgets has some Albertans feeling a tinge of déjà vu, and not the warm and fuzzy sort.

Confirming Patel

And finally, the corrupt and wrongheaded FBI might just get cleaned out.

One of the most rancid elements of the corrupt Washington establishment is the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which the Biden regime utilized as one of its foremost attacks dogs in its endeavor to criminalize political opposition and intimidate Americans into silence about its sinister polices. Now, however, the Trump administration is sending in a man to clean house, and the bureau may actually be forced to start investigating threats to the American people instead of harassing and persecuting the American people themselves.

Germany’s ban on nuclear is an act of self-harm

The Energiewende has led to sky-high energy costs and political instability – for no environmental benefit.

Almost every country on Earth today has pledged to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions. The vast majority of them have also set spurious target dates for doing so – usually by 2050. So far, only a handful of industrialised countries have succeeded in almost fully decarbonising their electricity grids. They have only achieved this with a heavy baseload of either nuclear power and / or hydropower.
