Carney says he may call early election if he becomes prime minister on March 9

Former central banker Mark Carney opened the door to an early election call if he is elected by Liberal members to replace Justin Trudeau as party leader and prime minister in a March 9 leadership vote.

Mr. Carney, the perceived frontrunner for the Liberal leadership, has been crisscrossing the country to introduce himself to rank-and-file party members and announcing some policy initiatives.

AfD party is heading for its strongest result yet in Germany’s election

THE EAST MAKES IT, SUMMER SUN REMIGRATION.  Aircraft -DEPORTATION LEAGUE

BERLIN (AP) — Alternative for Germany appears to be heading for its strongest national election result yet this month and is fielding its first candidate to lead the country. Even though it’s highly unlikely to take a share of power soon, it has become a factor that other politicians can’t ignore and helped shape Germany’s debate on migration.

The far-right party first entered Germany’s national parliament eight years ago on the back of discontent with the arrival of large numbers of migrants in the mid-2010s, and curbing migration remains its signature theme. But the party has proven adept at harnessing discontent with other issues: Germany’s move away from fossil fuels, restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic and support for Ukraine after Russia’s full-scale invasion nearly three years ago.

The latest Muslim terror attack will certainly win new followers.

RFK Jr confirmed to lead US Health and Human Services

The Senate narrowly confirmed Robert F Kennedy Jr, one of President Donald Trump’s most controversial cabinet picks, to head the Health and Human Services department Thursday.

The former presidential candidate will now oversee key health agencies with about 80,000 employees and a trillion-dollar budget. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle had questioned his baseless health claims and vaccine scepticism.

But on Thursday, Kennedy was confirmed by a vote of 52-48. No Democrats backed him. Former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was the lone Republican to vote against Kennedy.

I’m a Student at McGill University; This Is How Bad Things Are on My Campus

Palestinian flags wave wildly in the air. Students hiding their faces call for divestment from Israel, and accuse the Jewish State and the McGill administration of genocide.

Chalk graffiti boasts that “zionism=facism.” Somewhere on the bright green grass, a person has laid what looks like a bloodied sheet down, and placed disfigured dolls on top. It is August 29th, and this is the first walkout at McGill during the 2024 school year.

Tim Walz’s daughter Hope sparks backlash with trans rant after Trump’s executive order protecting women’s sport

The daughter of Kamala Harris’ running mate Tim Walz sparked backlash with her rant against President Donald Trump’s executive order barring transgender athletes from women’s sports.

Trump signed the order titled ‘Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports’ on February 5 at a ceremony in the East Room surrounded by women and girls.

The order uses Title IX, a law against sex discrimination in taxpayer-funded education programs, to ban transgender girls and women from participating in female school sports activities.

Jamie Sarkonak: Carney wants to punish Canadian steel, just like Trump

We’re all going to feel outrage at the 25 per cent tariffs that President Donald Trump just slapped on Canadian aluminum and steel — if we haven’t started already.

No one will take joy in the work slowdown that has already hit Hamilton, Ont. and the job losses, immediate and downstream, that ensue. Nor will anyone be happy to pay the higher price of American-manufactured items that spike in price due to the higher cost of raw materials within their country.

Consequences? That’s for the “Little People”.

This is Putin and Trump’s world now

America is no longer interested in underwriting Ukrainian and European security and it’s time for Britain to face this reality

Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.

Since the invasion, that has been an American mantra – the promise not to indulge in Russia’s game of carving up third countries between the two superpowers.
Not any more.

In what Donald Trump called a “highly productive” phone call, he and Vladimir Putin “agreed to have our respective teams start negotiations immediately”.

Former intelligence adviser fears Trump may leverage intel sharing against Canada

OTTAWA — A former top intelligence adviser to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he fears the U.S. might put intelligence sharing on the table in talks about the state of Canada’s defence spending.

Vincent Rigby said he worries about intelligence being used as a negotiating tool as the Donald Trump White house seeks to extract gains from Canada.

“We hear so much about defense spending and two per cent, and what the U.S. may or may not do if we don’t step up to plate,” Rigby told a crowd at a Canada Global Affairs Institute conference Wednesday afternoon. “I’m afraid at one point, intelligence is going to be used as a negotiating tool.”

Canada is likely regarded as too compromised by foreign powers to be trusted.
