Jewish history has long been defined by migratory movements away from trouble and towards safer places. Over the past half millennia, the safest harbours for ‘the world’s foster children’, as David Mamet put it, have generally been English-speaking countries, first Britain, then especially the US, Canada and Australia.
I miss Rush Limbaugh. During the Biden years, I couldn’t help imagining him up in Heaven begging God to put him back in the game. Today, I imagine him sitting in a bar smoking a cigar with Ronald Reagan and buying a round for the house every time a new EO drops. When he was here, however, there were a few things that he used to say that I loved because of their clarity. He always pointed out that illegal immigration was all about votes and that Democrats were hypocrites on the issue. He’d suggest that if it was really compassion that drove the issue, the solution was simple: immediately legalize them with the caveat that they could never vote. Democrats, of course, never went for it.
The Liberal leadership race is effectively over and the 2025 Canadian general election just got a lot more interesting.
As with swallows and summers, one poll does not define any political contest.
But any Liberals who decide to vote for anyone other than Mark Carney after Leger’s latest survey might as well form a circular firing squad.
We’ll see. I may need to seek asylum in Trump’s America.

Newly sworn-in Attorney General Pam Bondi held her first U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) press briefing Wednesday where she announced federal charges filed against the state of New York, specifically Gov. Kathy Hochul, the state’s AG Letitia James, and Commissioner Mark Schroeder of the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

The most striking aspect of President Donald Trump’s dismantling of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) isn’t that unsavory aid recipients have misused taxpayer dollars. It’s that anyone is shocked by the revelations of waste, fraud, and abuse. After all, watchdog groups have sounded the alarm for years about misuse of USAID funds.
People shouldn’t just be enraged by USAID’s wasteful spending. They should also focus on what that spending supported—particularly when it promoted terror or aligned with Hamas’s interests.

Europe can no longer count on the United States to come to its defence if Russia attacks, Pete Hegseth warned Nato allies on Wednesday.
The firebrand US secretary of defence said the Continent would have to step up to support Ukraine and confront the threat of Russia as his country shifts its focus to tackling China and securing its domestic borders.
He also ruled out sending US troops to help keep the peace in Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire.
When Justin Trudeau finally announced Jan. 6 he would step down, some Liberals called for a quick anointing of former finance minister Chrystia Freeland as the party’s new leader.
But Gerald Butts, the Prime Minister’s friend and former chief strategist, argued against that on the grounds that the candidates needed to be tested in a leadership race.
Instead they’ve arranged for Mark Carney to be anointed.
