BELL: Danielle Smith is no traitor and neither are Albertans

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith sure stirred up the hornet’s nest and upset the apple cart.
The whiners, the moaners, the hysterics are on full display, pounding their drums and mouthing into their megaphones from their social media outposts.
As the clock ticks, the intensity grows.
German neo-Nazi changes gender ‘so he can go to women’s prison’

A German neo-Nazi has legally changed his gender in an apparent attempt to be transferred to a women’s prison.
Sven Liebich, who was convicted last year on charges of inciting hatred and defamation, is appealing his 18-month prison sentence in the east German state of Saxony.
But in an unusual twist to his case, Liebich has legally changed gender and now lives under the name Marla-Svenja.
The TDSB has spent tens of millions placing school staff on paid leave. It’s working to change its practices

The Toronto District School Board spent about $35 million in just over three years to place staff on paid leave while they were being investigated for alleged misconduct.
According to a staff report that will be presented at a committee meeting on Thursday, between January 2021 and March 2024 there were 621 staff, including 518 teachers and 44 administrators, put on home assignment for allegations that included code-of-conduct violations, harassment, and child abuse and neglect.
What can you expect from a school board run by perverts?

Mark Carney is the Liberal frontrunner to replace Trudeau, but most Canadians don’t recognize him … and don’t like him when they realize he’s a WEF climate grifter

Mark Carney, the “rock star central banker” who navigated a string of financial crises and became a leading global voice on the economic risks of climate change, has rapidly emerged as a favourite in the race to lead Canada’s Liberal party.
But the steepest challenge for Carney, a fixture at international summits and company boardrooms, may be getting Canadian voters – even those within his own party – to recognize him.
Carney, who served as governor of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, will announce his candidacy to replace Justin Trudeau, at an event in Edmonton late on Thursday. He is the first serious contender to enter the race, the winner of which will replace the outgoing prime minister as the Liberal party leader and, perhaps briefly, the next prime minister of Canada.
He’s a WEF Climate Grifter.
Freeland would ditch consumer carbon tax if chosen leader: source … and now Carney
Former finance minister Chrystia Freeland would drop the consumer carbon tax — one of the Liberal government’s signature environmental policies — if elected leader, said a source close to her campaign.
The source, who was not authorized to speak publicly, told CBC News the former deputy prime minister will “make difficult decisions to meet our emissions targets and make sure big polluters pay for their outsized emissions.”
But the source said Freeland “will not fight Canadians on a policy they have been clear they do not support.”
Update: Mark Carney, Chrystia Freeland would scrap consumer carbon tax if elected Liberal leader, sources say
The consumer price on carbon is dead.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre can pat himself on the back — all those rallies, all those ads, all those talking points in the House of Commons — the case against the carbon price was so successfully prosecuted that the two leading Liberal leadership candidates are walking away from it.
The Star has learned that former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney, who will announce his leadership bid Thursday in Edmonton, has been telling Liberal MPs in private conversations that he will repeal the consumer price, focus on industrial emitters instead, but also recognize that the Trudeau government’s approach did put more money back into people’s pockets, and so will deliver a middle class tax break as compensation.
Have they promised a corporate tax won’t be passed down to consumers.
Trump’s tariffs are the price Canada must pay for freeriding on defence

Canadian political leaders have reacted to Donald Trump’s tariff threat with a stubborn lack of understanding about why the U.S. president-elect keeps targeting his country’s friendly neighbour.
They still seem genuinely perplexed by Mr. Trump’s seemingly anachronistic concept of international trade, which they see as rooted in 19th-century mercantilism.
This helps explain why most of them are still expounding on the win-win virtues of Canada-U.S. free trade, despite Mr. Trump’s endless protestations to the contrary. They still seem to think that he is simply misinformed or has a shaky grasp of economics.
Australian soldier ‘executed by Russian captors in Ukraine’

Australia has vowed to take the “strongest possible action” if it is confirmed that Russian forces have executed one of its citizens captured in Ukraine.
Ministers said they were “seeking urgent clarification” from Moscow about the condition of Oscar Jenkins after reports of his death circulated earlier this week.
The 32-year-old, from Melbourne, was serving with Ukrainian forces when he was captured by Russian troops last year.

They started to arrive, and the line began to form, as early as 2 a.m.
Despite a steady snowfall and bone-chilling cold, they came to stand outside and wait their turn, hours before the doors opened at 10 a.m.

OH NO! Hunter Biden artworks worth ‘millions of dollars’ destroyed in LA fires: source

A trove of nearly 200 artworks by Hunter Biden has been destroyed — one of the casualties of the wildfires ravaging Los Angeles, The Post has learned.
The controversial art had been in storage near the Pacific Palisades home of Hunter’s Hollywood attorney Kevin Morris and is valued at “millions of dollars,” a source close to the Biden family said.
Morris, who loaned the first son nearly $5 million to help pay a tax bill and has been financing a documentary on him, lives in a sprawling five-bedroom, six-bathroom home which is among the few houses still intact in the posh neighborhood, The Post can confirm.
What a Tragedy.
The secret shelter next door: What city officials aren’t telling you

Across Canada, the push for homeless shelters means keeping neighbours who live with them in the dark. Now they are pushing back
In theory, Toronto city staff were supposed to execute the purchase of a large, vacant commercial building in the eastern suburb of Scarborough in late October without anyone finding out about it. For a city bureaucracy not exactly known for its ability to keep secrets, it was a tall order. Before the sale had been completed, a television reporter named Alan Carter was standing in front of the building in question with a story so juicy it ran as an exclusive on Toronto’s CityNews.
Trump promised U.S. Muslims he’d get a deal for Gaza. Some now say he’s made good on it

Here’s a one-word summary of the reaction from some American Muslims to news of the Gaza ceasefire deal: vindication.
There was heated debate last year as so many in the community turned on Democrats and supported Donald Trump, a Republican, in unusually high numbers — betting that he could succeed where Joe Biden had failed and end the 15-month Israel-Hamas war.
Their calculus was questioned or even ridiculed, given the unflinching pro-Israel stance of Trump’s party and the dearth of evidence he has ever cared about Palestinians.
TDS CBC ahead.

HANNAFORD: What could possibly be in it for Mark Carney?

Why would anybody want to be leader of this Liberal Party?
Most don’t. One by one those supposedly on the inside track withdraw from the race… Dominic LeBlanc, François-Philippe Champagne, Melanie Joly…
Netanyahu says ‘last minute crisis’ with Hamas holding up approval of Gaza truce and hostage deal

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that a “last-minute crisis” with Hamas was holding up Israeli approval of a long-awaited ceasefire that would pause the fighting in the Gaza Strip and release dozens of hostages. Israeli airstrikes, meanwhile, killed at least 72 people in the war-ravaged territory.
Netanyahu signaled there were issues with the deal shortly after U.S. President Joe Biden and key mediator Qatar announced it was complete. That created a dual reality: War-weary Palestinians in Gaza, the relatives of hostages held there and world leaders all welcomed an agreement, expected to begin Sunday, even as Netanyahu said it was not yet finalized.
