From the Great Replacement to Great Turmoil

If the most dramatic change brought by mass migration is seen in European ethno-cultural identity, the most concrete, immediate, and undeniable consequence is the rise in violence and crime

At the height of Rome’s power, Emperor Augustus (63 BC-14 AD) discovered that Roman families were no longer having children. The Pax Romana had led to a drastic drop in the Roman birth rate. Despite the Emperor’s efforts, this decline in the birth rate could not be halted. This period was the first of three phases in the fall of Rome.

Senator Meghan Markle? Thank goodness it didn’t happen. It must not

Conventional wisdom would suggest that a divisive, high-handed former actress with a failed record of public service in Britain and no legislative experience would be an unlikely candidate to serve in the highly respected US Senate. Not to mention the fact that the actress has earned the just opprobrium of America’s strongest ally for having vilified one of its most deeply respected institutions. But in Joe Biden’s America, where virtue signaling and identity characteristics are the chief selection qualities for office – and competence is an afterthought – Meghan Markle seems a likely candidate for high office.

Companies have been quick to pass higher costs on to customers, BoC finds

Bank of Canada deputy governor Nicolas Vincent says businesses are still raising their prices more frequently and by larger amounts than they did before the pandemic, which is contributing to higher-than-expected inflation.

Vincent made the comments in his first speech as deputy governor today to the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal.

According to his prepared remarks, Vincent says the Bank of Canada believes that higher-than-expected inflation over the last year is “intimately linked” to larger and more frequent price increases from businesses.

Ukraine’s Victory Over Russia Will Benefit Western Security

Ukraine’s counteroffensive to liberate territory occupied by Russia may be taking longer than expected, but the central goal of inflicting a devastating defeat on Moscow remains imperative if other autocratic regimes like China are to be deterred from initiating future acts of bellicosity.

Since the Ukrainians launched their counter-offensive in the summer, their forces have made slow but steady progress in recapturing territory occupied by the Russians after President Vladimir Putin launched his unprovoked invasion last year.

Ottawa, banks approve millions in loans to reduce barriers for Black entrepreneurs

Major lending programs for Black entrepreneurs have quickened their paces after a slow start, with Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce approving $8.5-million in loans and grants and Ottawa authorizing about $35.1-million in loans so far.

After the killing of George Floyd in 2020, the federal government, major financial institutions and Black community groups spent months discussing how to knock down some of the barriers that Black businesses disproportionately face in accessing capital. Ottawa and major banks almost came together to launch a new national lending initiative, but the banks walked away to run their own programs.

The number of Canadians who say they are unable to meet their financial obligations and are facing mounting financial stress has jumped significantly in the past year, according to a new survey from the National Payroll Institute, which is calling the situation a national emergency.

Not exactly a feel good housing story … or Don’t believe a word a Liberal says

If you can’t afford a house, a recession will help a lot more than building more homes

“When there’s dynamic demand, there’s just no way that increasing supply is going to all of a sudden reduce prices by 10, 15 or 20 per cent,” Mr. Clayton said. “The only way to do that is what happened back in the late latter 1980s and early ‘90s, and in the first half of the ‘70s – have a big recession, lose a lot of jobs.”

Delivery driver who shot YouTube prankster after failed stunt acted in ‘self-defence’

A delivery driver who shot a YouTube prankster in the chest from close range after a failed stunt was acting in “self-defence”, a United States jury has ruled.

Alan Colie, 31, was acquitted by a Virginia court of aggravated malicious wounding in the shooting of 21-year-old Tanner Cook, who runs the Classified Goons YouTube channel.

Colie pleaded not guilty and said he was acting in self-defence during the incident at the Dulles Town Centre shopping centre earlier this year.

I am fine with this.

Douglas Murray: Canada’s descent into ignorance shocks the world

An unbearable stupidity has trickled down from the Liberal government

Perhaps I should say straight away that I love Canada. Some of my best friends are Canadian. That minimal throat-clearing aside, let me say — as a friendly outsider — that Canada today looks like a nation of ignoramuses.

The incident in Parliament the other week is just one case in point. Standing ovations are very rare things. They should be very special things. When a whole House stands to applaud someone they had better be very sure who they are applauding.
