Leaked U.S. strategy on Ukraine sees corruption as the real threat

Biden administration officials are far more worried about corruption in Ukraine than they publicly admit, a confidential U.S. strategy document obtained by POLITICO suggests.

The “sensitive but unclassified” version of the long-term U.S. plan lays out numerous steps Washington is taking to help Kyiv root out malfeasance and otherwise reform an array of Ukrainian sectors. It stresses that corruption could cause Western allies to abandon Ukraine’s fight against Russia’s invasion, and that Kyiv cannot put off the anti-graft effort.

Diwali fireworks advisory issued despite warnings it might be discriminatory

OTTAWA – An Environment Canada advisory that singled out Diwali fireworks as a reason to prepare for poor air quality last October was issued despite multiple warnings from some staff about it being discriminatory.

The advisory was edited and an apology issued within hours as complaints poured in to the national weather service the morning the annual Indian festival of lights was set to begin.

Remember this Khalistani v India fireworks celebration from last year?

Brampton has since banned fireworks though I wonder if the bylaw will be respected.

Canada’s credibility is cratering. It’s time to take foreign policy seriously

It’s been a chaotic and newsworthy past couple of weeks in Ottawa. But we cannot cause the latest political developments to obscure the fact that we recently learned of evidence that the Indian government carried out the murder of a Canadian citizen on our soil. Or that our major allies such as the U.S., the U.K., and Australia could barely bring themselves to issue much more than perfunctory responses. The entire episode is a sign that Canada’s global credibility has been diminished such that the shared values of sovereignty and rule of law are no longer worth a robust shared response when a competing goal, such as India’s strategic value as a counterweight to China, exists. This must be a wake-up call for Canadians.

Trudeau is a whiny woke bitch no one wants around.

Portland public safety commissioner warns people NOT to call 911 unless they’re at risk of death

Portland’s public safety commissioner has told people to not call 911 unless they’re at risk of death – as the Democrat-run city continues to struggle with rampant drug use and a slew of overdoses.

Commissioner Rene Gonzalez told locals that its emergency service hotline was overwhelmed with people calling about members of the public suffering fentanyl overdoses. Oregon decriminalized hard drug use three years ago.

As a result, he urged people to only call 911 in a life or death emergency, as it was revealed paramedics had been called to deal with eight suspected fentanyl overdoses in the city’s once-tony Pearl District.

Diane Francis: India spat exposes holes in Canada’s immigration, criminal justice systems

The Liberal and NDP coalition have failed to protect Canada’s borders. The military has been neglected: there are only 300 full-time military personnel in Canada’s vast North, and the government is looking to further reduce the defence budget. But the gaping holes in the immigration system constitutes another security concern, and underlies the recent diplomatic spat with India.

Conrad Black: Denazification Relied on Proof of Individual Guilt, Rather Than Membership in Nazi Organizations

The condemnation of 98-year-old Yaroslav Hunka as a former member of the Waffen SS after he was honoured in Canada’s Parliament has been excessive. The person who exposed him in that capacity, Lev Golinkin, is a Nazi hunter whose criterion for the asseveration of capital crimes for a suspect of Nazi crimes is service in any capacity in a para-military or police unit that has reasonably been found guilty of the commission of such crimes.

Britain has ‘run out of arms to send to Ukraine’

Britain has run out of defence equipment to donate to Ukraine and other countries should step in and shoulder more of the burden, a senior military chief has said.

The comments come after Ben Wallace revealed that he asked Rishi Sunak to spend £2.3 billion more on support for Ukraine before he resigned as defence secretary last month.

Mr Wallace warned that the UK had been overtaken by Germany as the biggest European military donor to Ukraine as he called for the 50 per cent increase on funding that the UK has committed so far.

B.C. man has to pay support for children of man who doused him in lighter fluid

A B.C. realtor, who at one point was nearly set on fire by the former husband of his lover and business partner, has been ordered to pay child support to the woman and her children who were fathered by the lighter-fluid wielding ex.

John Darcy McLeod, who had what a judge called a “volatile, on-again off-again relationship of more than seven years” with Laurissa Anne Code, also had a business partnership with Code, which began in 2012. Both the relationship, which began around the same time as the business arrangement, and the partnership, came to an end in 2020.
